25.01.2022 DIY gummy bears Juice + gelatin = gummy bears! These are a firm favourite in our house. I very rarely allow the kids to have sweets and these are an amazing homemade alternative to the shop bought variety. Usually I only use cold pressed apple juice, but all I had was this sugary kind in the fridge today *insert squeals of excitement from Thomas here*... This is SOOO simple! Here’s what you’ll need: juice gelatin (I buy Nutra Organics natural gelatin) gummy bear trays (we have 1 x traditional bears & 1 x dinosaurs) dropper (came with trays) saucepan How to: measure 3/4 cup of juice into a small saucepan sprinkle 2 tablespoons of gelatin over the juice and allow to bloom for a few minutes heat gently and mix until all gelatin has dissolved using your dropper, fill each tray with the heated mixture place into the fridge and allow to set. Mine always set super quickly - within half an hour once set, pop them all out and gobble them up! I store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. They never last more than a few days - we eat them too quickly! This is not only super fun for the little ones to get involved in, but there’s lots of mathematical and scientific discussion as well as working those little fine motor muscles See more

25.01.2022 Have you tried sticky wall play yet? It is simply some clear contact paper stuck to the wall using masking / painters tape (sticky side facing out). Our sticky wall activity today was this simple story retell. The lines were drawn on to the non-sticky side prior to popping it up on the wall. I then placed some crafty parts in a tray to represent each part of the bear hunt. ... We’ve also used sticky wall play for toilet roll marble runs, shape matching, sheep shearing, alphabet matching, name activities, number work and more!

25.01.2022 Christmas Kindness Countdown To make this, I followed the I Heart Crafty Things tutorial for their Santa Countdown and simply added handwritten random acts of kindness, or fun family activities on each paper chain link before Thomas stuck them together. The boys also stuck some red tissue paper onto Santa’s hat for a sneaky bit of fine motor work, and a bit of fun ... This will also help with the ten zillion how long until Santa comes questions - I will simply ask Thomas to count the remaining paper chain links! I can’t wait to get started on this next week

They’re a great resource for vocabulary development!

21.01.2022 My little ones love recreating experiences This quick and easy sensory set up was inspired by our weekend at the beach where Thomas and I collected these beautiful shells! Thomas was straight into some imaginative and scientific play, building the turtles a raft with the driftwood. Henry was inspecting it all carefully, then spotted a rock. Of course he started to drop the rock into the water over and over (and over and over), just like at the beach! ... This will stay put until they loose interest. I’m not about to waste my time setting up a new experience while they’re still loving this one

07.01.2022 happy reading I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Ours will be spent snuggled up inside, listening to the calming rain and reading lots of stories! We’ve turned our lounge room into a little retreat with mattresses and teddies sprawled all over the place!... It never fails to amaze me how reading out loud just draws children in. If you’re ever needing to calm things down a bit, why not grab a good book, take a seat and just start reading out loud. How long does it take for your little ones to stop to come and listen?

02.01.2022 Sensory Play From birth to early childhood, children use their five senses to explore and try to make sense of the world around them. With sensory play, there’s always much more going on than meets the eye. Here are just some of the benefits: ... It helps to build nerve connections in the brain It encourages the development of motor skills It supports language development It encourages scientific thinking and problem solving Our favourite, and the simplest way to help children engage their senses is by playing outside with nature, full of colours, movement, textures, sounds and smells. This is a little play tray that I set up for Thomas last Friday, and he’s engaged with it every day since then it is fun to touch, and smells ahhhhmazing thanks to our chocolate playdough and coconut grass!
