25.01.2022 We hope all of our South Australian teacher leaders are ready for the start of term, with school supplies organised and your lunch box packed! About that lunchbox though; if you live in metropolitan Adelaide or the Riverland, your suburb/region may be subject to a fruit fly control order. These rules will affect what produce items can be included in your lunchbox. The website linked below can tell you if your area is affected. Please share this information with colleagues and... your school community. The biosecurity issues and quarantine rules that are in place here to reduce the fruit fly population have parallels with the strategies being used globally to restrict the movement of COVID-19. It's yet another example of how small individual actions contribute to community-wide positive outcomes. And all you have to do is check your lunchbox! https://www.pir.sa.gov.au//fruit_fly_in_/current_outbreaks

24.01.2022 *Tuesday 17th November* this will be your last chance in 2020 to hear all about renewal of certification! We will be running an 'Information session for the renewal of certification' at EDC from 4-5:30pm. This short presentation will provide critical information and allow workshop participants to ask any questions they might have about the requirements of certification renewal. We only have 15 places left for next week's workshop; please use your Learn Link log-in to reserve one of the final places:

17.01.2022 This is not a story specific to our Teacher Leaders, but it is a good story, in the news, about teachers. Media articles in the past haven't always cast teachers in the best light, so it is worth recognition and worth sharing when one like this is published. Thank you to all teachers who go above and beyond, in ways small and large.

16.01.2022 Thank you to these Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School students for sharing their NAIDOC artworks

11.01.2022 During the current South Australian lockdown, we have shown that South Australians of all ages can work together and act together for our collective health and safety. Today, as we hear the news of the S.A. lockdown ending sooner than expected, we can also think about all of the other ways that individual South Australians can work for communal benefit. Friday 20th November is also White Ribbon Australia day; an opportunity to bring people together to raise awareness and com...mit to action to prevent men’s violence against women. In workplaces, schools and communities all over Australia, we’re asking you to stand up, speak out and act to end gendered violence. This is an important initiative for our state government and Department for Education. This recently released video 'White Ribbon Australia Workplace Accreditation Program: Stories from the South Australian Government' captures some of the aims and impacts of this work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFqzoRNanQo&feature=youtu.be

11.01.2022 What do you think makes a great teacher? Via AITSL; ACARA CEO, David de Carvalho, shares his top 5 qualities of a great teacher in his latest vlog. A great article to share with colleagues and start a conversation about IMPACT! https://blog.acara.edu.au/top-five-qualities-of-a-great-t/

08.01.2022 We are looking forward to seeing all of the ways our teacher leaders and their sites bring NAIDOC Week 2020 to life for their students in the coming week. This student effort from Stirling North PS in 2017 is just one example of teachers enabling their students to participate in meaningful, inclusive and cultural celebrations for indigenous Australians and their culture. As NAIDOC Week commences here in Australia on a day that has taken on international significance with the ...attention on the USA election results, there are many conversations to be had and examples to refer to about intercultural understanding and awareness. Some of these other perspectives on how people from different cultures can be supported or made to feel welcome may provide additional entry points for students to better understand the significance of this important week for indigenous Australians. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2020-theme

07.01.2022 Something for teacher leaders to think about, not just personally but also for how you help colleagues to positively navigate these professional and personal dilemmas: "I have a bad work-life balance. I used to feel extremely guilty about every aspect of that. I wasn’t investing enough time in teaching, leading, and learning. I wasn’t investing enough time in my family or our friends. I wasn’t spending enough time on my graduate work. It didn’t matter what lane I went down, t...he other two were glaring at me: When do we get our time? But I’ve learned that work-life balance is a myth because everyone has different responsibilities and values in terms of their work and their personal lives. Balance for one person might be a nightmare for another." https://www.edutopia.org//new-way-think-about-work-life-ba

06.01.2022 How lovely is this display of student artworks in Flinders Street? Bringing the 2020 NAIDOC Week theme of 'Always was, always will be' alive :-)

05.01.2022 And now for something a little bit different... Term Four is often a time for celebrating the year that's winding up, and a time for essential reflection and review to help improve your planning for the new school year ahead. As teacher leaders, we generally have very good habits around reviewing and reflecting on what we have taught and how we have taught it, and how well we have catered to the students in our classrooms. We have specific ways to review how well school impr...ovement projects have been implemented, and how to gather participant feedback on the impact and effectiveness of various school innovations. But how often do you stop to reflect on yourself? You can think of this as helping you to devise more professional versions of the traditional New Year resolutions, and there are a wealth of online questionnaires and assessments that will claim to help you do this important self-reflection work. We are sharing one here that is free to use and doesn't retain your personal information. It takes less than ten minutes, and while not as comprehensive as some of the more expensive and lengthy personal assessment tools available on the internet, it will provide food for thought as you review 2020 and look ahead to 2021. If you're open to being productively provoked and to engage in some self-evaluation, click here and spend a few minutes on your greatest improvement project - yourself: https://brenebrown.com/wholeheartedinventory/

03.01.2022 Along with everything else 2020 has delivered is an increased blur between 'work' and 'life' for people in all kinds of jobs, and not just because of the need for periods of working from home. It's been hard to switch off and disconnect, and doing so makes us increasingly available through our devices to the demands of others. As teachers and leaders in sites, these concerns may have impacted different people in different ways this year, however the way you deal with these de...mands often requires similar solutions that include negotiation, clear communication and proactively managing expectations. How leaders role model these behaviours within organisations is also critical. Read more on this topic here: https://www.abc.net.au/life/how-to-say-no-at-work/12821000

03.01.2022 Thanks to Sandy Glamuzina of Port Augusta Secondary School and the Department for Education for sharing these tips. Certified and aspiring teacher leaders are always keen to hear of new ways to engage with parents and carers that help to build powerful relationships between schools, pre-schools and students' families. (APST 7.3 and 3.7) It helps student's learning and wellbeing outcomes when communication with families in your school community is responsive and timely, and these tips from Sandy for engaging with Year 12 parents and carers are certainly both!

02.01.2022 There are so many stories that come to light through the celebrations of NAIDOC Week, and we think this one is worth more people knowing about! Each year, a competition is held to design the next NAIDOC Week poster. This year's winning artist Tyrown Waigana has provided some insight into the meaning of the stunning 'Shape of land' illustration he created, and the story behind it.
