25.01.2022 From inspiring beginnings in the 1920s until now, NAIDOC Week has been an evolving, agile movement. Take a look at this timeline put together by SBS News:

23.01.2022 For us, it is absolutely brilliant. Last week Principal Janine Keall spoke to Verity Hughes at ABC Pilbara about the positive impact TFA Associates have had at Hedland SHS. She spoke of their strong connection with their students, their unrelenting energy, and their dedication to making a difference. We have two staff who have already graduated from the program & we have three that are currently at our school, & the five are exceptional teachers. For us it’s a great benefi...t because sometimes the attraction and retention of quality staff can prove difficult. This month WA Education Minister Sue Ellery announced a new grant which will support Teach For Australia to recruit and train another 280 additional teachers for WA public schools, in four more cohorts of our Leadership Development Program. We’re thrilled to be continuing our work with great schools like Hedland SHS, to help bring more subject specialists and passionate classroom leaders to the students who need them - like TFA Alum and STEM teacher Charlie Bradshaw who also features in the ABC interview. Interview starts 21.35 mins: https://www.abc.net.au//programs/mornings/mornings/12777764

20.01.2022 The overwhelming generosity of our community has made our very first Giving Day a huge success already but there’s more to come! A wonderful donation from the Hansen Little Foundation has not only taken us beyond our bonus round target of $150,000, but unlocked a new round of matched giving. The Foundation has pledged to match dollar-for-dollar all donations raised up to a new target of $200,000.... Donate now and help us take advantage of this limited opportunity: https://www.charidy.com/teachforaustralia Thank you so much to those who have given already and our sincerest gratitude to the Atlassian Foundation for their support. The finish line is in sight let’s bring it home! #EveryChildEveryChance

16.01.2022 Today the ABC has reported on some of the major impacts on education through COVID-19 and remote learning. The Smith Family’s investigation found the effects were widespread from increased concerns for student mental health, risks of students disengaging from school completely, the stress and financial pressures of homeschooling, and the loss of routine and security in initiatives like school breakfast clubs. Our most vulnerable students are at risk of falling between the... gaps. Education can give them greater choice for their future and the knowledge, skills and confidence to shine. Every child deserves every chance to succeed. Teach For Australia is raising funds this Friday 30 October to ensure we can keep delivering on our mission for educational equity. And with the help of the Atlassian Foundation, who’ll match and multiply all pledges up to the target, your gift can go much further. 16.01.2022 It's been a year like no other for students, teachers & schools. What have we learnt about improving education? Teach For Australia's CEO Melodie Potts Rosevear says the gaping digital divide can't be ignored. Is it time for a digital resourcing standard? #educationequity

12.01.2022 Our Reconciliation Action Plan records our commitments, and these include that we will cultivate and demonstrate deep respect and humility for the thousands of years of culture, knowledge, and ways of learning that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands Australians steward. Our RAP also commits us to acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island rich histories as well as the ongoing impact of colonisation and successive policies which have contributed to the significant cha...llenges and barriers facing First Nations people. In line with these commitments and alongside our strong belief that we must be ‘always learning’, a group of our TFA community in Western Australia recently participated Wogga Warniny. This immersive experience workshop was generously led by Noongar Whadjuk Elder Professor Simon Forrest, who is Curtin University’s Elder in Residence, and Minang Ngadju woman and educator Roni Forrest. In their own words, two of the participants, Tom and Caitlin, share the workshop experience with our wider TFA community: https://teachforaustralia.org//wogga-warniny-immersive-ex/

12.01.2022 For me, deep listening is about the ways in which we know ourselves and can be comfortable in our own skin, knowing our flaws, our strengths and how deep the water is that we’re wading through, says Dr Laura Brearly. It’s about authenticity: being fully present, being awake, being able to tune in to what is emerging. In the Yorta Yorta language of the Murray River in Victoria, the word for Deep Listening is Gulpa Ngawal. In 2020, the TFA Reconciliation Team has facilitated a new shared space for deep listening, Gulpa Ngawal Gatherings, which are held monthly to connect, learn and celebrate cultures across the TFA community

05.01.2022 It is NAIDOC Week and this year the theme is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ which recognises and celebrates that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the ancient history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations.
