25.01.2022 Have you successfully downloaded a resource I have shared through my Google Docs links? Trying to figure out how to share my files & give back!

25.01.2022 In 1/2B we’ve been learning about Aboriginal storytelling and reading Dreamtime stories through several picture books. We read How the Birds Got Their Colours’ which we enjoyed so much we used paint and our hands and fingers to create these artworks.

24.01.2022 MATHS IDEA: Year 3-6 A hands on approach to learning the different angles and the amount of degrees they have. All you needs is: - A4 card - matchsticks - PVA glue ... - marker My 3/4 internship class completed this activity during maths rotations after I had explicitly taught angles. For a topic that is fairly dry and sometimes hard for the kids to grasp, this activity improved their ability to recall the angles and how many degrees they are. See more

23.01.2022 Art lesson - Cow directed drawing I’m back to casual teaching this term and did my own art lesson with a 2/3 class. I was very flattered to see their teacher had hung them up in the classroom! Link below for directed drawing https://artprojectsforkids.org/watercolor-cow-face/ ... We used oil pastels and water colour paints Most students finished their artwork within an hour lesson See more

21.01.2022 My new stamps came from Zazzle today! It is an American company who personalise a huge variety of stamps. I ordered these on 14.3 and they arrived today, 11 days later. These cost me $91 including tracked shipping ($12).

18.01.2022 I am so overwhelmed at how many people have like my page. I am feeling very slack at the moment as I haven't been active on this page since I created it, more than a year ago. UPDATE: I moved back to my hometown of Anna Bay... so I am not actually teaching in the dust as my page suggests. Although my parents do live on a property of 80 acres but as it is less than 10km to the ocean, there is little dust. Our driveway gets very dusty in summer so I am going to continue using ...the page name. I also have been fortunate enough to have my own class both last year and again this year. I taught year 1/2 at Stockton Public last year and have a 1/2 class again this year. While I experience many challenges and I am constantly busy trying to improve my teaching practice, I love what I do and feel very grateful to have such an influential role in the little people I teach lives'. Thank you to all the people who have liked this page. I plan to keep adding resources that I have created myself to the page, as well as links to great websites and ideas. Feel free to share ideas/links/resources by posting the the page. I hope you all can find something useful on the page in the coming weeks. Jordie x

15.01.2022 #talentedtuesday My kids love when I write a message on the whiteboard and get them to write their response to my questions. I love how different they all are

14.01.2022 Scribble art! A great activity that utilises line and colour. This was done with a group of mixed years from K-2. All students really enjoyed using oil pastels to make this artwork. https://www.firefliesandmudpies.com/scribble-art/

14.01.2022 1B’s Grinch directed drawings. I modelled each step on the white board and students copied. We talked about size and that the Grinch should take up the whole page (as their drawings would often take up 1/10 of the page ) and we talked about the different lines and shapes and trying to form each properly. Pencil trace in oil pastel paint with water colours I think they turned out amazing!

08.01.2022 Goals wall for my 5/6 class. Explicitly taught them SMART goals prior to the goal writing process. Most kids got the idea and loved the satisfaction of monitoring their progress and moving their goal to the ‘Goals we’ve kicked’ wall! Literacy Maths Social

06.01.2022 ART IDEA: Year 3-6 During internship I developed a visual art unit. The unit was called Influential Artists of the 21st Century. Anyway, here is another artwork we did (year 3/4). They were so intrigued by Van Gogh's story and the step by step process really helped those who have low confidence in producing art. I used the step by step guide on Mrs Brown Art website http://www.mrsbrownart.com/5th.htm (great website). This activity took 2 one hour lessons and they look marvellous hanging in the classroom. I did the artwork myself first, because I always like to show my students an example prior to them beginning the activity so they have a clear picture in their mind (first pic). These are our results!

04.01.2022 Hey guys, I haven't posted anything helpful or anything at all really in a very long time. In my class at the moment we are beginning revision and word problems are an area I have identified that my class need to work on. ... Here is the link to my GoogleDrive where I plan to save many more helpful things. In my Drive you will find my favourite poster to help kids solve word problems in an easy way. It uses simple steps and a helpful acronym 'RUCSAC' which stands for: Read Underline Choose Solve Answer Check It has really helped my students to take their time and avoid making silly mistakes. I have also uploaded an SmartNotebook file I created to help teach word problems to the whole class using RUCSAC. This has been created for Stage 1 but the questions could be changed to suit any grade.

03.01.2022 1B’s bug fact files for our Schoolyard Safari unit Students were put into groups and chose a bug to research. They used books and computers to research their chosen bug.

02.01.2022 WOW Tonight the page hit 250 likes! Thank you all so much. To celebrate this milestone my DBT store has 50% off for 24 hours. Keep an eye out for 2 great new resources being added tomorrow to snag them half price too! Thank you all :) http://designedbyteachers.com.au/shop/Teaching-In-The-Dust/

01.01.2022 Love this so much I’ve worked at some disadvantaged schools and it can be a miracle that some kids made it to school at all. School for some kids is often the place they feel the safest, most supported and loved
