21.01.2022 Decorate the Christmas Just sharing a fun Christmas Numeracy activity I made up- see sheet and instructions below. Great for fine motor development as well. Alternatives: 1) They could make a Christmas tree out of play dough ans roll the dice and put that many decorations on their tree. 2) Use an actual Christmas tree and roll the dice and put that many decorations on.... Christmas numeracy activity I made up for 3-6 year olds: Feel free to share Instructions-Decorate the Christmas Tree What you need: -different coloured playdough -2-3 players -dice -laminated Christmas tree below How to play: Each player is given a different colour of playdough Player 1 rolls the die and makes that many decorations (baubles) for the tree and then places them on the tree. Player 2 rolls the die and does the same. When the tree is full each player must add up their baubles and the player with the most wins. You could record the results for each game on a chart. Variations of the game: When the tree is full each player can roll the die again but this time take the decorations off the tree. The first player to take all their decorations off the tree is the winner.

11.01.2022 **FYI: NESA accreditation and recording NESA PD hours** I have had a lot of educators ask about how to record NESA hours etc so I thought I would share what I know as a provider: If you are at the proficient level you need to complete 100 hours of PD over 5 years if full time (you have 7 years if part time). For primary school educators 50 hours of this is teacher identified and the other 50 hours has to be NESA endorsed PD. For early childcare ECTs it is 20 hours of NESA end...orsed and 80 hours of teacher identified. If doing a NESA endorsed course you need to provide your NESA number to the course provider as they log your hours for you. If you are at the provisional level you do not need to have your PD hours recorded by the provider-as a provider, it tells us that you are provisionally accredited and therefore we can not add your hours. Here is some further information on it in case you were interested: The first link gives information on how and who is eligible to apply to become a proficient teacher and the second is maintenance of a proficient. Hope this helps. https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au///proficient-teacher https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au///proficient-teacher See more

11.01.2022 STEAM-ART for preschoolers- spin art by spinning the plate with your hand. You could ask prediction questions: what do you think it will look like? What colours will mix and what new colours might form? Why do you think that? http://puttisworld.blogspot.com//spin-art-with-paper-plate

11.01.2022 STEAM for preschoolers and school age-such an easy experiment to do and children can easily see the parts of the plant growing when using a clear cup or container. http://puttisworld.blogspot.com//gardening-with-kids-seed-

10.01.2022 I am just sharing some recent comments about my new STEAM webinar from educators: I put so much work into this webinar and it was so worth it! I cant wait to see what is happening in centres in regards to STEAM. Loved all of your courses that I have attended with other educators from Gumnuts over the past 1-2 years. Always walk away with great realistic and usable ideas.... I feel very inspired and love all of the ideas that I come away with after each and every one of your webinars. thank you for the inspiration. Love the question What do you wonder!!! just love it!!!! Will use the secret code spelling.. love this idea!!! I realised we are doing pretty well when it comes to STEM! Fantastic practical webinar! Thank you :) Really loved the interactive webinar and sharing of ideas between other professionals. Excellent course. Great content. Nicely presented. I have encouraged other educators to sign up for your September webinar. Thank you so much. I got so much out of this session and would recommend it to anyone!! Thank you! A wonderful and interactive webinar which i thoroughly enjoyed. Another great webinar with plenty of ideas to move forward with thanks. I didnt even know what STEAM was so my mind is blown. Its great to know I already do a few things in my room at work but it is great to get ideas on ways to further scaffold the children I teach. I cant wait to share it with my team! Fantastic webinar, have taken so much away from this, and has made me realize just how much STEAM activities I am already implementing into the classroom. Hi Merryn Thanks very much for inviting me to join you ! You are always a wealth of knowledge !! Your course was great insight to STEAM and practical ways to embed it into our everyday practice! Thanks for so many great ideas ! I loved the investigations! I would really recommend this course!!! Thank you. Thanks for all the resources. Having the resources ready to go, makes it easier to share ideas that I have learnt with my team and excite them to also implement. Thanks Merryn I really appreciate the invite today!. I have always enjoyed your courses and I can honestly say I learnt more about literacy and numeracy in the early years from your courses than at university!! You really started me on a journey to want to learn so much more about Language literacy and numeracy!! I was really eager to enhance our literacy and numeracy program. Your courses really helped me on my journey! Your courses inspired me as an educator! I wanted to further engage research and my own learning, reading etc on how to really engage children and enhance their literacy and numeracy skills in a hands on meaningful way! Now you have lit another fire! STEAM!! Its an area i have always wanted to enhance!! So thank you for your wonderful passion, knowledge, ideas and insight!!! So greatly appreciated! I would highly recommend this to others! Luisa

06.01.2022 STEM LEGO for school age-I am definitely going to show these to my children :-) https://frugalfun4boys.com/lego-stem-projects-instructions/

06.01.2022 Rhyming is such an important pre reading skill for children to learn and is so easy for children to learn in the early years. If children can hear the rhyme in words early on then they are more likely to recognise words that rhyme when reading later on at school. https://fun-a-day.com/rhyming-songs-for-preschool/

04.01.2022 Dyspraxia or DCD: I am sharing this as I think it is so important for educators to have an understanding and know the characteristics of learning difficulties in children. I know I did not learn very much about difficulties or disabilities at university and wish this was part of the course.
