25.01.2022 EXEC SPOTLIGHT Meet our new eMentor manager Jaymee!!! We asked her what she loves about the eMentor program: "What I love about eMentor are the strong relationships that develop between mentors and mentees throughout the program. To be a role model, help a student grow in confidence and support their personal development is a very rewarding experience, and often teaches mentors a lot about themselves in the process. eMentor is important as it refines and develops soft skil...ls in students in a very critical time of their lives. Additionally, the program is crucial in order to maintain TLGs impact on rural students between Rural Programs. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly limited our ability to travel to rural communities and eMentor allows us to still support students from afar and help reduce educational disadvantages. To be a key role model in students lives is an extremely rewarding experience. You also make a lot of new friends and have fun! And its so easy to work into your schedule. Everyone should apply for it." So what are you waiting for? Join eMentor and experience all the amazing things Jaymee is talking about! www.tlg.org.au/apply-wa : Jaymee, eMentor Manager

06.01.2022 EXEC SPOTLIGHT Tilly has been on the TLG Executive since late 2019, holding roles in both the Funding and Education team. As an outgoing Education Manager, Tilly has learnt to communicate effectively and manage a team involved in creating resources for our programs and delivering interactive training sessions. This year, she has been able to develop her knowledge on how students learn and teach skills to new tutors when working with children from diverse backgrounds.... One of her goals as an Education Manager was furthering the interest areas, goals and career prospects of the officers in her team. Tilly has thoroughly enjoyed leading a team in bridging the gap between rural and metropolitan schools. I will miss my incredible team, we all have a close bond and always motivate and support each other. They have been so fun to work with and I have been so lucky to work with them throughout this year. TLG has given me the opportunity to meet an inspiring group of people who I have connected closely with. If you’re ready to take on a challenge and make an impact, apply here for a position on the TLG Executive here: https://www.teachlearngrow.org.au/apply-exec

05.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day. Take the time to check up on those around you. COVID-19 has presented us with obstacles and challenges we have never faced before. During such unprecedented times, it is likely youll hear back, "No, Im not okay." So what can you say after, "R U OK?" Actively listen - listen to them with an open mind, no judgement and with your full attention. Right now, it is about being there to listen and support them... Encourage action - when they have finished speaking, help them find ways that can improve their wellbeing. You can ask them, "What do you think is a good first step to help you get through this?" or simply, "Is there anything I can do to help?" Check in - follow up on your friends and see how things have improved For more information on R U OK? Day and how to support yourself and those around you, visit ruok.org.au * If you or someone you know is experiencing distress during these times, we encourage you to seek advice from your GP. 04.01.2022 Today we celebrate International Youth Day, a day on which we can commemorate the hard work, passion and engagement of our young people in the wider community. Its a day to celebrate the unique voices, actions and initiatives of youth and acknowledge the priceless role they play in our society. We are thankful beyond words for all the phenomenal young people we get to work with on a daily basis at TLG, both our volunteers and our students. You inspire us every day, amaze us with your wisdom, and teach us more than we can fathom. Well always be proud to work alongside each and every one of our volunteers as we move forward together towards a brighter future for education

04.01.2022 Happy National Science Week This years theme is all about the Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans. We challenge you to imagine and inquire into new, sustainable and creative ways that we can work towards generating healthy oceans and healthy communities for all! In celebration, we thought we would share some photos of our fantastic RP volunteers and the students at Trayning Primary School as they conducted the Rainbow in a Jar density test. Less dense l...iquids, such as olive oil, always float on top of denser liquids, such as honey; a phenomenon not unlike what occurs with the seawater in our oceans. Salinity, temperature and depth all naturally affect the density of seawater, but the effects of climate change threaten to distort the normal balance So, its time to start putting our oceans to the forefront and thinking about what we can do as individuals and as communities to protect our beautiful seas and all that they contain

04.01.2022 The QV1 Urban Descent is rapidly approaching! More details about specific abseiling times will be released soon

04.01.2022 "Australia should launch a $1 billion, six-month tutoring blitz to help 1 million disadvantaged school students recover learning lost during the COVID-19 lockdown" says a recent Grattan Institute report. The tutoring blitz would provide major benefits to not only students falling behind, but to young people in need of income. Read more: https://loom.ly/azMowdo
