25.01.2022 Goodbye old friend!!!! This week we had to say goodbye to a very dear fur family member of the Tea Gardens Veterinary Hospital Team. Every now and then we have pets brought to us for euthanasia before their time. This happened to us a few years ago. ... He came to us in his senior years, underweight and unwanted. He rubbed his head against ours, purred with a motor like no other, and made a deal with us that he would be our mate. And so it was- initially househopping between the team members and the hospital...and then settling in one of our homes as VIP. We are so lucky to have been part of your life old man, and so glad you were able to have the best of everything for your grandpa days. We love you...you will be missed!

22.01.2022 Dr Karleah and Josh cant wait to welcome a new team member into the Tea Gardens Veterinary Hospital family in mid September. We arent too sure what our founding member Boots is thinking about the situation?

We are very fortunate to welcome Dr Ingrid who brings over 20years of experience to the veterinary team and looks forward to getting to know the Tea Gardens fur family. We also welcome Susie who is completing her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing and returns after first meeting us through her school work placement. ... We hope that you all make them both feel very welcome (....just like our friends Heidi and Alfie!!!)

20.01.2022 Friday is the last day for donations to our Christmas Wishing Tree to help bring the Christmas spirit to the residents of Peter Sinclair Gardens Nursing Home. ...We asked if they would like to share some of their pet stories with us.... "Butch was a blue cattle dog and never had a collar or a lead. I used to take him for a walk and he never hurt anyone. Butch stayed outside and never used his kennel, he used to sleep by the fire inside during the winter. If Butch needed to go outside he would hold my wrist and take me to the back door. Butch was a clever dog" (From Audrey) "I had a little female boxer who was named China, china plate rhymes with mate. China followed me everywhere. I had to go into hospital for an operation, China pinned away" (From Frank) "I had no pets but I looked after a lot" (From Ruth) "We had a dog named Frisky, he was a good dog" (From Barbara) "We always had pets. I had a lamb and a rooster that loved to chase my brother" (From Margaret) "Thor was named after the God of Thunder because of his deep bark" (From Doug) "I have two lovely and friendly dogs. They think the world of me. When I go home they get so excited. Dogs are so faithful and such good company. My black one almost talks. If I dont pay them enough attention they come over and pat me on the arm. Living on the farm, we had horses as well, I rode sometimes but was not really a horse person" (From Enid)

16.01.2022 Bravery award of the month goes to Whisper!!! This lovely girl had been having trouble clearing a urinary tract infection and was passing small amounts of wee frequently. Ultrasound and Xrays were able to clearly identify the cause of her trouble....bladder stones. ... Today she had surgery to remove the stones and is well on her way to recovery. What a brave girl.

13.01.2022 Have you visited the Tea Gardens Veterinary Hospital Wishing Tree!!! 2020 has been a very difficult year ... with Covid-19 impacting on every community across Australia. This Christmas we would like to give a little back to those affected in our community. We will be collecting monetary donations over the next 4 weeks that will be used to purchase christmas goodies for the residents of Peter Sinclair Gardens nursing home. ... Please make a donation at the hospital and have your pets name displayed on a star on the wishing tree. ...and help us bring some Christmas cheer to the faces of those who missed out on close contact from their loved ones during such a vulnerable time.

13.01.2022 Did you know pets can get skin cancer too? As the temperatures warm up please remember slip, slop, slap applies to our fur friends too. Below is an example of a squamous cell carcinoma on the belly of a dog who loved to sunbake. :(

12.01.2022 Tick season is here. Is your fur friend up to date with prevention?

09.01.2022 Meet this weeks sweetheart.....Bella!!!! This beautiful girl has been having some acute unexplained pain episodes of her neck/back. This required further investigation by Dr Ingrid including sedation and Xrays. Bella's time in hospital and recovery from sedation was made easier with snuggles from our nurse Megan. ... We hope you are feeling much better soon Bella.

06.01.2022 Christmas is almost here!!!!!! Today Dr Karleah stepped into a new role as Xmas Elf making a special delivery to the residents of Peter Sinclair Gardens. Donations made to the Tea Gardens Veterinary Hospital wishing tree have been used to purchase coffee, hot chocolate, tea, drinks, biscuits and chocolates which will be used at Christmas and as a mini coffee shop to enjoy through 2021. ... As the staff and residents enter another period of lockdown let's take a minute to share some messages for a safe and happy Christmas!!!!

04.01.2022 Bravery Award of the month goes to Bella!!!!!! Last Monday this gorgeous girl was found by her owner to be suddenly lethargic and not herself. She was rushed to hospital when a dead red belly black snake was found in the backyard. She was promptly given anti venom and treatment by Dr Ingrid and the nursing team and transferred for ongoing 24hr critical care to the Newcastle Animal Referral and Emergency Centre. ... Red Belly Black Snake venom can cause red blood cells to break down (causing severe anemia and bleeding), muscle tissue to break down (leading to kidney failure) and can also cause paralysis (which can require ventilation of breathing muscles). Bella endured a further 7 days of treatment at AREC which required multiple vials of antivenom, red blood cell transfusion, intravenous fluids, anti nausea medication, antibiotics and pain control to combat the effects of the snake venom. We were so happy to hear she could be discharged and continue care at home with her family. She visited again today for some ongoing monitoring/follow up tests and the all important belly rubs. We hope everyone can send this beautiful girl love and well wishes for a full recovery.

03.01.2022 Is your pet up to date with tick prevention? Tick season is in full swing. We are treating tick paralysis patients daily. If you need advice as to the best prevention for your pet or information about the product you are using please call us on 4997 1877... Please take a minute to watch this video by the Animal Emergency Service on how to search for ticks on your pet.

03.01.2022 Investigating causes of vomiting can involve a number of tests including blood tests, ultrasound and xrays. Below is an Xray barium contrast study that we performed to find out if the movement of food from the stomach into the intestine was occurring at a normal speed. A barium test can identify obstructions (foreign objects, cancers), dilitations and masses within the oesophagus/ stomach... / intestinal wall that then may warrant further diagnostic tests or surgery. Luckily for this fur friend all movement was normal... and they could now continue medication to manage their illness.

02.01.2022 Just a reminder to all our clients to ensure you collect all medications, preventative health products and special diets this week ready for the Christmas break. Also it is the last week we will be collecting donations that will go towards the purchase of goodies for the residents of Peter Sinclair Gardens. Help us spread some Christmas cheer !!!!
