09.01.2022 Marine Solutions has been contracted by MAST to conduct a feasibility study for the installation of Artificial Reefs (ARs) and Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) a...t various sites around Tasmania with the aim of enhancing recreational fishing. The proposed ARs and FADs form part of the Tasmania Liberals 2017 election commitments detailed in the Taking Recreational Fishing and Boating to the Next Level plan. As one part of this feasibility study we are engaging with a range of stakeholders and interested members of the public. By doing so we aim to engage in meaningful discussion and gather a range of knowledge and interests to help ensure the feasibility study is well informed. The information gathered from this stakeholder engagement process will be considered along with other social/cultural, environmental and economic considerations. Following our preliminary research and a workshop held with a range of key stakeholders, potential locations and configurations of ARs and FADs have been identified. These include; artificial reefs in coastal waters off Devonport, Georges Bay, Great Oyster Bay/Little Swanport and Déntrecasteaux Channel; and FADs in offshore commonwealth waters off Tasman peninsula, Maria Island, Bicheno/Freycinet Coast and St Helens. Opportunities for value adding are being identified where possible. Specific locations and configurations will be informed by the stakeholder engagement process and further research. We will be available at boat ramps around the state for interested members of the public to obtain further information and share their views regarding the proposal; Date location / time Tuesday 29th October Devonport: 8am-10am Thursday 31st October St Helens: 9am-11am Bicheno: 1pm-3pm Monday 4th November Triabunna: 9am-11am Pirates Bay: 1pm-3pm For those who cannot make it to the boat ramps and would like to discuss the proposal further please do not hesitate to contact Coco on 03 6228 5906 or [email protected]
