25.01.2022 Check out the angle of the drop-off at 'Mars Attack'! Peter Horwood made it look so simple. The chap in the pic ended up with some 'bark' off.

25.01.2022 Congratulations to Peter Horwood who has just won Day 1 of Round 2 of the MTB XCO National Series being held in Armidale this weekend. Peter reportedly won the race by a good 400 metres. We're looking forward to Day 2 tomorrow.

24.01.2022 With his 2 second places at the Bairnsdale (Vic) round of the MTB Australian National XCO Series and first and second places at Armidale, our Peter Horwood is sitting second on the series leader's ladder. It likely will take series leader David Penhaligon to have a DNF for Peter to overtake him on the leader board but we can be sure Peter will take the series right to the finish line of the last round. The national XCO series was one of Peter's goals for this year and he is ...certainly pursuing it with consistency and great results. The next round is in 2 weeks at Toowoomba (Qld).

23.01.2022 Mick Sherwood has just won the 2017 The Piney Solo Male!! A sensational result and Mick's biggest win to date. A massive congratulations, Mick!! ... Many thanks to Fiona Chisholm for looking after Mick in the pits all day.

23.01.2022 Yesterday Peter Horwood continued his great form with another podium in the latest round of the MTB Australia National XCO (cross country) Series. Held near Bairnsdale in Victoria yesterday's race saw a very hectic start and a race long battle. Day 2 today.... Beat of luck and good legs, Peter.

22.01.2022 A story from last night's Prime7 TV News in Tamworth. Wishing all riders, especially Tamworth Cycle Club entrants, in today's Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic the very best of luck.

20.01.2022 Live update for The Piney at Armidale. Go Mick!!!!

20.01.2022 Just in from Armidale via Fiona Chisholm, Peter Horwood has moved into the lead of his race.

17.01.2022 This afternoon Jeremy Bartlett took out the bronze medal in the NSW Masters Track Sprint Championships at Dunc Gray Velodrome in Sydney. Jeremy's qualifying time was 11:59 for the flying 200 metres timed section. The gold medalist Matthew Mooney set a new Australian Masters record in the process with a time over the last 200 metres of the sprint match race of 10:868 seconds. Silver medalist James Lewis qualified second with 11:409 not that much faster than Jeremy. Jim met Jer...emy in the semi-final and Jeremy took him to the third round after they each won a round. Jim just edged past Jeremy on the line in the third round. You might remember Jeremy had a massive crash in training when his chain broke at full power as he practised starting efforts. He crashed very heavily going into the back straight of the concrete velodrome at Tamworth. A Grade 3 dislocation of a collarbone was finally diagnosed a week or two later and his training was dramatically interrupted. To get this far - a bronze medal - after quite a few weeks off the bike and very limited normal training he's done extremely well. Congratulations, Jeremy. Tomorrow is the 1,000 metre Individual Time Trial.

17.01.2022 A great bronze medal today for Jeremy Bartlett at the Australian Masters Track Championships at Dunc Gray Velodrome in Sydney in the 1000 metres sprint, Masters 1 Division. Jeremy took the bronze behind Matthew Mooney, gold, and Jim Lewis, silver. This result is a fantastic outcome - it's been anything but a perfect season for Jeremy and late last year it was doubtful he would compete at the states and nationals. That big training fall and a dislocated AC joint meant that no...rmal training was not possible and racing not an option until the NSW Championships and Australian Championships came around. Congratulations, Jeremy. Gutsy efforts all around.

16.01.2022 This morning Peter Horwood, Darren Traill and Mick Sherwood raced the A Grade criterium at Armidale as part of the annual Autumn Festival. Peter won one of the primes (sprints) and placed 4th for the 45 minute high speed race. Darren and Mick also placed in the top 10 and rode well for this time in the season.... The race was won by Inverell's top youngster, Dylan Sunderland who goes from strength to strength each year. Peter's result is all the more pleasing given that yesterday he raced the Australian Masters Mountain Bike Championships Cross Country event in Queensland.

16.01.2022 This morning Darren Traill rode well in the Blayney to Bathurst 110 klm race to finish 25th out of 120 or so starters in his age group. Darren was still with leading group of around 30 riders at the start of a 5 klm climb with 30 klms to go but then lost contact after a couple of klms of the climb. Sitting adrift of the group his chain then dropped off the chainrings and he had to stop to fix it. He chased strongly in a group of 6 and eventually finished several minutes ...down on the leaders. Two tough days in a row but with a particularly good outing yesterday in the Division 2 Criterium at Bathurst. Meanwhile, regular Guest Rider for our team Peter Selkrig, won the 56 to 60 age group of the Bathurst to Blayney. Congratulations, Peter.

15.01.2022 Peter Horwood successfully negotiates 'Mars Attack' on lap 2. He's in second place after leading first lap through. 4 lap race.

13.01.2022 It's been a big weekend for Peter Horwood. 4th place at the Autumn Festival Criterium A Grade at Armidale this morning and yesterday racing the Mountain Bike Australia National Cross-country Championships at Canungra in Queensland. At Canungra he took the Silver Medal after a hectic start and a battle to make it to the front of the race on a brutal course - 33% climbs - yes 33%!! and steep drop-offs. This was on the back of a 4th place in the Toowoomba round of the National ...Cross-country Series which secured second place overall for the series. Congratulations, Peter - your versatility as a cyclist is remarkable!! And that's before we mention your motorcycling skills.

12.01.2022 Darren Traill has just finished 11th in the pre Blayney to Bathurst Criterium in the Bathurst CBD area. It was his best result in a Division 2 race and comes the day before the 110 klm road race tomorrow. Photos credit: Breanna Chillingworth (thank you, Bree).

12.01.2022 Many thanks to Fiona Chisholm for these pics of Peter Horwood in the early section of the Master Division 2 at the Armidale round of the MTB XCO National Series. Peter's race got underway at 1:00. Thanks again, Fiona.

11.01.2022 Trailly rode aggressively in the Gunnedah to Tamworth today but it wasn't to be. He finished with the bunch in Division 3. A couple of pics from the post race debrief with Michael Hoult from Armidale Cycling Club.

10.01.2022 A pic from today's Nemingha to Nundle and Return 100 klm race near Tamworth. We had one rider today; Darren Traill rode off the 9 minute mark with the limit riders having 31 minutes head start on his bunch (40 minutes on scratch). The limit riders weren't caught today and Darren ended up around 5th in a bunch sprint after the race had been won. Sorry at the time of posting we don't have details of place getters.... Another pic of Trailly after last weekend's Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic. Many thanks to Fiona Chisholm for the group pic.

10.01.2022 We just heard from Jeremy Bartlett today won the NSW Masters Track Championship Individual Time Trial at Dunc Gray Velodrome in Sydney. Full details and pics to come but in the meantime, a massive congratulations, Jeremy. Brilliant results over 2 days with no racing after a heavy fall in December.

08.01.2022 Lap 3. Holding 2nd place.

07.01.2022 Last night Mick Sherwood won The Piney 12 Hour MTB Race at Armidale conducted by the New England Mountain Bikers (NEMTB) Club. It was an extremely solid day's work for Mick but it resulted in his best cycling result to date. Congratulations once again, Mick. Your dedication, focus and hard work is paying off.

07.01.2022 Some pics from today's Coonabarabran to Gunnedah Sundowner - Keegan Downs Memorial. Darren Traill rode off the 14 minute mark chasing limit on 28 minutes. His bunch caught the leaders near Mallaley and not long after scratch caught up. Trailly cramped and has to stop on the roadside to clear it and eventually finished a few minutes down on the winner.... Gunnedah to Tamworth tomorrow. Best of luck Darren. Photo credits: Airlie Horton and Breanna Chillingworth. With thanks.

05.01.2022 We're yet to track down a live feed but right now Mick Sherwood has a little under 3 hours to go in the annual The Piney 12 Hour Mountain Bike Race at Armidale. It's a tough race full of obstacles and challenges all overlaid with a duration of 12 hours. It'll be getting quite chilly up in Armidale. Stop Press... We've just heard from Nancy Spasko - wife of our regular guest rider Peter Selkrig - that Mick is running second outright! That's a fantastic result so far!! Fingers crossed for you Mick! By the way, Peter Selkrig is not only leading the over 40s section of the race, but the World 24 Hour Champion is also leading outright by around 25 minutes.

05.01.2022 Today, Jeremy Bartlett begins his defence of his NSW Masters Track Championship successes of 2016. Today from 2:00pm is the qualifying for the Sprint and tomorrow, from 2:00, is the 1 Kilometre Time Trial. Wishing you the very best of luck, Jeremy and, of course, 'good legs' as the saying goes!

04.01.2022 Of the 56 Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic races since 1961, a very large proportion of them have seen the winning attack unleashed on a 1.5 kilometre long hill at 25 klms to go. The hill is known far and wide in the Australian road cycling community. It is spoken of with both dread and delight - but mostly dread. 'Graftons' are mostly won and lost on that climb. Today the name of the climb was changed from 'Wire Gully' to 'Grindal Griffin Hill' in recognition of the inaugu...ral winner, Rome Olympian, Alan Grindal in 1961 and the late Jack Griffin, Race Director 1962-1990, father of Ray Griffin of Baiocchi Griffin Private Wealth. It was on Wire Gully that Alan Grindal launched his winning move to win the very first Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic.

04.01.2022 2 x second places at Bairnsdale in Victoria over the weekend for Peter Horwood. Sounds like it all came down to the sprint finish on day 2 in this round of the MTB Australia's National XCO Series. The next round is Toowoomba in a couple of weeks. Congratulations, Peter - you're having a great series!!... Fantastic action pic by Russ Baker of MTBA.

04.01.2022 Half a lap to go and Peter Horwood is still in the lead by around 250 metres. Go, Pete!!

04.01.2022 Tomorrow is Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic day and we've got Mick Sherwood and Darren Traill lining up. Mick will be in Division 2 and this will be his 5th participation in the great race while Darren is lining up un Division 3 for his third time. At 228 kilometres and over 3,300 metres of climbing, 'the Grafton' is Australia's most difficult one day race. The terrain goes something like this:... * 70 klms of hills from the coastal plains to the 18 klm climb up Gibraltar Range in the Great Dividing Range. * 30 klms or so of undulating terrain to Mt Mitchell feed zone. * 40 kilometres of windswept New England tablelands where you really want the wind to be from the east - any other direction and you're in for a tough run through to Glen Innes. * 70 kilometres of hills and descents to Inverell with a 2 klm climb up 'Gibson's Hill' at 7 klms to go. The race includes the infamous 'Wire Gully' climb at 25 klms to go and we have it on good authority that there's a new name being announced this year for the climb. Mick is in great form for his favorite race of the year and Darren has 'trained the house down' for months now. But - for a Grafton to Inverell, absolutely everything - not most things, everything - needs to go right on the day. Wishing the boys the best of luck, great legs and an easterly.

03.01.2022 Some great pics from Jeremy Bartlett's campaign at last week's Australian Masters Track Championships in Sydney. Jez raced the 1000 metre Individual Time Trial placing 4th and took the Bronze medal in the 1000 metre Sprint. Congratulations on a gutsy nationals after an imperfect few months of preparation, Jeremy.

03.01.2022 First road outing for Darren Traill, Peter Horwood at the criterium interclub between Tamworth Cycle Club, Inverell Cycle & Tri Club and Armidale Cycling Club held in Armidale today. Mick and Peter got into a 5 man break which included eventual winner Sam Spokes and 2017 Under 23 Road Champion Sam Jenner. Sam was second while Peter picked up third and Mick was 5th.... Darren has been doing big weekly klms and with heavy legs didn't make the finish action in the bunch. A nice start to the road season! Great work guys.

01.01.2022 It's Gunnedah to Tamworth his weekend and it's sure to be a great race as usual. The day before is the Keegan Downes Memorial Coonabarabran to Gunnedah - The Sundowner - and it's always a great way to get the legs going for Sunday. Both races are at the 110 kilometre mark or thereabouts and we've got Darren Traill racing. This wil be Darren's tenth Gunnedah to Tamworth so and he's scored Division 3. A great news story from NBN with Tamworth Cycle Club President, Min McDonald ...and Darren Traill. Best wishes to Darren for the weekend and TCC for Sunday's running of the race.

01.01.2022 A great report by Armidale Club on the interclub crits at Armidale today. Also great to see our Mick Sherwood as a member of the Tamworth 'pursuit' team which took the win in that event. Peter Horwood was a member of the Inverell team just 5 seconds back in third.

01.01.2022 More pics from the Autumn Festival Criterium at Armidale Cycling Club today. On-board GoPro shots by Mark Stewart - President of Tamworth Cycle Club. Corner action shots by Min McDonald who when she's not racing and training is clearly very handy behind a camera lense.

01.01.2022 Darren Traill - 'Trailly' - played a round of golf with his work today. Great to see you in your team shirt, mate.

01.01.2022 At the Australian Masters Track Championships this morning, Jeremy Bartlett has placed 4th in the Masters 1 (30-35 years) Individual Time Trial with a 0.6 seconds improvement on his time at the NSW Championships three weeks ago. It's a great result considering the track season Jeremy has had - or, we should say, hasn't had. The training fall late last year has seriously curtailed his training and racing and to be in the top 4 at this level of racing is an outstanding achievement. Congratulations, Jeremy. Jeremy's next event is the 1000 metre sprint.
