21.01.2022 We wanted to say a massive thank you to The Sam Project for their incredible work at the Aroma Festival The Rocks. Scott and Florence braved the chilly day to break down the barriers of mental illness and start the conversation with over 1,000 coffee enthusiasts. Their incredible partners Pauls Dairy made the day all possible and organised for SAM to be there in prime position and provided all the milk. Vittoria Coffee provided all the coffee and two of their best baristas. Thank you for getting out on the road because #peopleneedpeople.

18.01.2022 We have a range of incredible supporters that stand up to tackle mental illness head on. Team Black Dog has been absolutely blown away by one of our fundraisers and we wanted to share his story. "Recently my very good friend David Fogarty lost his battle with depression and on the morning of his funeral, like most days, I woke early and went for a long run. After lacing up my joggers and putting my torch cap on my head I went outside to find that not only was it dark but als...o cold and foggy. These conditions when running on gravel roads can make what is usually a solitary experience also unpleasant and potentially dangerous. I remember thinking to myself that if I just keep going the sun will soon rise, the fog will lift and my path will eventually become clear and safe. Step after step it slowly began to occur to me that for Foges and most sufferers of depression this does not always happen, that they feel trapped with no control in a world that feels not only dark but lonely and, sadly, often believe the fog that shrouds them will never lift and at any moment they could stumble on the loose stones or pot holes they feel are always in their path. As I continued jogging I came to the realisation that these sufferers must feel as though they are running a marathon every day of their lives. As a Farewell to Foges and to raise money as well as awareness to assist the Black Dog Institute in fighting this illness I intend to run three marathons in Wagga Wagga, Sydney, and Melbourne. I am giving myself a month to recover from each one. I am very mindful that those suffering from depression are not this lucky: regardless of their energy levels, they have to lace up and run in the fog every morning." Steven is stepping up for the Black Dog Institute to help those suffering know they are not alone, that in time the fog will hopefully lift and that support is there to help them cross the finish line. http://teamblackdog.gofundraise.com.au/page/StevenScott

15.01.2022 We are proud to announce we have a new logo. 'Black Dog' was the term Winston Churchill used to describe depression - his own depression. The logo of the Black Dog Institute refers to and respects that origin. A victory sign that, enigmatically, casts the shadow of a black dog provides a metaphor for a disorder that is constantly lurking in the background. It acknowledges that depression can indeed 'shadow' the sufferer, even when the mood is upbeat and 'victorious'.
