25.01.2022 The good old OHP. Shoulders play one of the biggest factors of one's physiques. In order to have boulder shoulders, one must have a good OHP. - However, I see some people bending so far back that they are actually incline benching while standing (pretty impressive). - The biggest factor for this is probably the fact that the weight is simply too heavy. Another factor can be a lack of mobility. When you lack mobility in your upper back and lats, you will bend your back while p...ressing to compensate for the lack of mobility. - Bending your back while pressing has also found to have a smaller OHP force, which will harmful in the long run. - Try to be as stable as possible when you press while keeping your back neutral (contracting the abs and quads along with squeezing the glutes will assist with this). - Repost @nattyknowledge - Support my posts on Patreon! 19.01.2022 #KNOWYOURFOOD: WHICH HAS MORE SUGAR: A green tea frappuchino or a can of Coca Cola? Y'all... the green tea frappuchino has 26 MORE GRAMS OF SUGAR than a can of coke!!! How many of you would think twice about having a can of coke for breakfast? I'm guessing a fair bit of you. What about how many of you think that a green tea frappuchino can't be *THAT* bad for you... especially since it has green tea in it, which is a powerful antioxidant, right?? Me! Don't let 'buzzwords' o...r 'superfoods' trick you into thinking that something is healthy. Not even to mention that all of those drinks (besides black coffee) have more added sugars than two Reeses peanut butter cups! WHUT. If you're like me, you tend not to think too much about what is in drinks. Liquid calories/things don't count, right??! But after just taking a quick look at the Starbucks nutrition info, I was FLABBERGASTED. It's INSANE how much sugar is in all of those drinks, especially when you remember that the World Health Organization recommends limiting added sugar intake to only 25G. Now for some, the thought of drinking just straight black coffee is enough to make you projectile vomit from disgust. Don't worry, I used to be the same way! Start out with as little milk + added sugar/honey as you can manage. Then every week, try to reduce it by a teaspoon. Eventually, you'll get used to the taste and start to appreciate the coffee for the bean, not the added sugars! . As the dexa-scan costs quite a lot of money, heres a less accurate but still effective method. ... All you need is a body fat caliper. There are also other skinfold methods, but in my opinion the 9 skinfold method by Parrillo is still one of the more accurate ones. All you have to do is measure the points mentioned like in the graphic. Then add all measurements together. And add it into the formular mentioned below. Calculation in lbs: bodyfat % = (sum of 9 sites x 27) divided by bodyweight in lbs. As I already said its not the most accurate way to measure bodyfat in comparison to a dexa-scan. I am a huge advocate of mobility, especially the ankle mobility since it allows you to squat deeper without any problems. - One way of testing your ankle mobility is to have your toes a fist and a thumb's length away from the wall and trying to touch your knees to the wall without your heel popping off the ground. -... If you can do this, congrats! You probably have no problem squatting ass to the grass. - If you can't, there are two possibilities for your restriction. - 1. If you feel pinching at the front of your ankles, you have a joint restriction *stretches and foam rolling 2. 05.01.2022 CREATINE - By (@noexcusescommunity) - Creatine monohydrate is a well known supplement that has been widely researched by many. Specifically, I will look at the effectiveness of supplementing with creatine while resistance training. Its important to first understand how creatine works.... - 1The liver naturally produces creatine (Cr) through a two step reaction and is then transported out for storage. About 95% of it is stored in the muscle and the other 5% in the heart, brain, and testes. It can also be found in meats and fish. Cr is generally used in times of anaerobic type activities like sprinting or high intensity resistance training. The system that provides energy for this type of activity is the ATP-PCr system. ATP energy and PCr is phosphocreatine which is how it is stored in the muscle once it is transferred from the liver. - 2When you start lifting heavy, you will utilize ATP that is readily available in the muscle. the enzyme ATPase breaks ATP down into ADP and energy for muscular contraction. So then we need to create more ATP, so we recycle the ADP and use the PCr that is sitting around in the muscle. Cr kinase comes in to help breakdown the molecule and attach it to ADP to create more ATP resulting in more energy. So the more creatine you have available. With creatine supplementation, you are able to increase the amount of PCr that is stored in the muscle. - There are various studies on Cr supplementation, ill stick to a few though. - 1In a study by Matthew Crooke et al., after loading their subjects on either Cr or carbohydrate and taking it continuously through the experiment everyday, they trained only eccentrically on the leg press machine for 4 sets of 10 reps. The results showed that Cr supp group had 10% higher isokinetic (muscle contracting at constant speed) and 21 % higher isometric knee extension strength compared to the placebo (carbohydrate group). - 2In a review by Eric Rawson, he reports that subjects that use creatine experienced about an 8% increase in strength and 14% increase in weightlifting performance.
