24.01.2022 This is not an inspirational book. It's a hands-on, 44-page guide for living your life deliberately in 2017. But it is rooted in some inspirational truths. This is how the introduction starts: You get one life. Just one. You live it. You use it up. And then it’s gone. Your one life is precious. It’s short. It’s fragile. And it’s permanent. 22.01.2022 Like most Australians, I have seen the slow moving train wreck that is the 2016 Australian Census. As a keen observer of technology, I have been following #CensusFail. It is not my intention to comment on the technical failings of the data collection debacle. Instead, I want to look at the bigger picture of how that data - which is likely to be more biased because of #CensusFail - will be used beyond what was publicised. 22.01.2022 It's been over eleven years since InFocus was founded and this year could have easily been the last for this website. But I sat down with some key people behind this website recently and we decided that the website still has a role to play and a purpose to serve. For instance, there are topics that the more mainstream blogs won't feel the need to cover because their readership don't come from a Fundamentalist background. 18.01.2022 Independent Baptist (IB) Kevin Harris recently came under public scrutiny in Australia for his dangerous views on rape and child abuse. The responses from IB leaders have varied from enthusiastically rallying around him to reticent disapproval. One of the key arguments that I've heard many times over the last two weeks is the notion that IBs are independent, and therefore not obligated to take any sort of stand against this evil. 17.01.2022 At 9.25pm on Thursday evening, Charlie Haddad, pastor of Grace Bible Baptist Church (an IB church) put a statement "by Kevin Harris" up on his facebook wall. You can read Kevin's statement here. It's odd to me that the statement has been released in this way. I would have expected it to be put up on the Illawarra Community Baptist Church website. 16.01.2022 Let's face it. Conservative Christians tend to be wary of the social sciences such as psychology, sociology, and anthropology. I have many friends in church leadership who view the soft sciences with moderated suspicion at least. Others reject them overtly. And this feels reasonable because, it is argued, the social sciences aren't "real" science. And they have been hijacked by radicals who use them to push an anti-Christian agenda. 13.01.2022 "Phil’s position can’t stand theologically. We could say that his soteriology is over-realised. Because what Phil means when he repudiates the notion of desire-as-attraction as legitimate is not merely that we cease to indulge this aspect of our sinful nature, but rather that we cease to have this aspect of our sinful nature. It is glorification of this part of our being; a demand we make on no other part of man’s being at this stage of the soteriological process."

13.01.2022 Nice isn't good; mean isn't bad. There. I said it. You've long suspected my heresy. Now you have proof in black and white. But it's true. Nice isn't good and our unshakeable conviction that it is, is making us bad. Let me explain what I mean. Imagine you're walking down the street and you see a guy manhandling a woman. You have several options. [ 705 more words ] http://teaminfocus.com.au/whats-so-good-about-being-nice/

13.01.2022 I was recently involved in preparing a child protection policy for our church. We were given a template by our insurer which was really great as it prompted us to put a policy in place early. Even though our children's ministries are still small, we're now prepared to offer a safe environment and our people are trained so that in the case of a bad situation arising, our people know who to talk to and what to do about it. 11.01.2022 I appreciate entertainment which achieves the level of art. And 13 Reason Why is art. I just finished watching the show and I'm pretty sure I need therapy. But then that's the point I think. And the reason I'm going against my better judgement in posting about the show here. Should I watch 13 Reasons Why? 11.01.2022 Moments ago I saw the news of an American megachurch pastor, Andrew Stoecklein, who took his own life after a battle with depression and anxiety. Almost immediately the commentary on facebook began. As a pastor who battles mental health struggles, I feel compelled to insert a few thoughts into the discussion. But first, my heart goes out to Andrew's family. This is a world-shattering moment for them. [ 513 more words ] http://teaminfocus.com.au/when-pastor-kills-himself/

09.01.2022 Many have asked for evidence that the material at The Files is presented in context. As a result, we've released several emails which were randomly selected by a third party. http://www.thefiles.com.au/evidence.html#context

07.01.2022 How would you label the expression on the face of that Ugandan boy?! When my granddaughter started up her new bubble-making machine, the 50 or so noisy Sunday School children stopped suddenly with their mouths open. They’d never seen bubbles and were afraid of them! After being shown that they do not hurt, the children were delighted. Ecstatic, some were still afraid to touch the bubbles and used small branches to pop them. 07.01.2022 That C-word. No one expects it. No one welcomes it. It's just a small lump in the middle of my back. Not even sure it’s worth mentioning to my doctor. Sure - we’ll watch it and see if it grows or becomes irregular in shape. It’ll be fine. It wasn’t fine. The doctor excised it and off it went to the lab. 06.01.2022 I've just been through a very intense 48 hours since the airing of the 60 Minutes report on my family. The last thing I want to do right now is sit down and analyse the response to this programme, but it needs to be done. Links First, let me give you the links you need to know about. 06.01.2022 Tonight at 8.45pm Australian EST, 60 Minutes will be telling my mother's story which is really ultimately my family's story. I encourage you to watch it. I was interviewed for the story, but have not yet seen it. I will wait until after the story airs to comment further. 60 Minutes Australia The Files Grace to you. http://teaminfocus.com.au/60-minutes-raped-and-abused-by-a/

04.01.2022 I sat down this afternoon to consider a question of increasing importance in modern life. What is marriage? What exactly is marriage? What follows is a collection of my thoughts on that question. It is not my goal to outline what a marriage should look like. Or what is Christian marriage per se. But rather, my goal is to get to the very fundamental core of what constitutes a relationship as a marriage. [ 1,520 more word ] http://teaminfocus.com.au/what-is-marriage/

04.01.2022 "God made sex. And it was a good creation. And most human beings have sexual attractions. Orientation is about the direction of those attractions."

01.01.2022 An old friend recently asked my thoughts on the local church and it occurred to me that I'm odd. If anyone should hate the local church, it's me. I grew up in an extreme wing of Christian Fundamentalism. My childhood pastormy Dadis currently in prison. My world is full of casualties of the unspeakable evils that occurred, not just in [ 1,334 more word ] http://teaminfocus.com.au/why-i-still-believe-in-the-local/
