20.01.2022 PDCC Baldivis-Dog Hill 7th May 2016 A grade: A very windy day made conditions tough for a lot of riders especially down the back straight. 4 laps in and the field was split with a lead group of 6 riders. The lead group road well together staying away for the remaining 3 laps. ... On the final lap it was the two Wormal guns (Matt Upton & Luke Pledger) attacking one after the other and eventually taking out 1st & 2nd respectively with Luke Banham coming in for 3rd. Troy & Ryan who were also in the break came in for 5th and 6th. In other news KD riders Matt Peterson and Dylan White raced in the Tom Lowry memorial race down in Collie this afternoon. Matt finished in the top ten with Dylan rolling in not far behind in the chase group. Thanks to Alison Ramos for the photos and Matt Upton for donating his pizza voucher to the KD boys.

10.01.2022 Here is the race report from the brilliant win in the collie-donneybrook handicap by our very own David Wessels.

09.01.2022 Wembley 4 Hour MTB. Jorgensen Park Kalamunda. Race report. With the dark clouds looming and marathon riders coming out of the wood work Sunday the 12th of April was to be a long yet fun day. After a quick lap of the course we lined up on the old golf course to begin a long 4 hours of racing. Starting on the right of the front row with the faster riders 9am came and we took off. As usual I had a fairly useless start but being such a long race I didnt worry. The Boss man D...aniel Gray had a blinder and took off in about 4th into the single track while I was back in around 13th. As we took off through an already slippery mud puddle I thought the guys ahead of me were mad hitting the course so fast. But then I had a memory check and remembered I was the silly one going solo and most of the guys in front were in teams taking turns throughout the race. So with a sigh of relief I pushed on and tried to stick to my planned lap time of under 20mins a 7ish km lap. The course was very fast with the exception of a very steep climb which had many riders off walking to the top, and the mud puddle which grew as the day went on into a very deep slushy mess. Trying not to look at the time and making sure in the open fairway section that I kept eating I reached the 3 hour mark and the end of my gel bottle. Handing it to my lovely wife and feeder for the day she passed me my energy bottle full of caffeine, gel and water which lasted about a kilometre before it was all gone and my energy began to come back with it. Thank goodness as when I stopped to grab it I was shaking quite badly. With 3 laps to go I was passed by my KD cycles team mates Dan and Dave riding duo for the day which was a great motivator to up the pace into the final. I managed to hold Dan in sight until he handed over to Dave for the last laps in which he took off and only in the distance on the switch back fairways did I see him again. Coming through the line at the 3hr 40min point I had to make a decision knowing Dave and my next solo competitor had gone back out for another lap. Silly me chose to go out for another also and pushed hard but ultimately fell short by 20seconds with both the other lads squeezing it in. With an average heart rate of 174bpm and average speed of around 20km/hr I was very happy with my performance and coming 5th Solo male was my best MTB marathon performance thus far after my 7th in Dwellingup last season. I look forward to the next marathon event and this roady is converted and is also looking forward to some more technical events in the state xc series. A big well done to Team KD cycles Daniel Grayand David Wessels on a great ride To all other riders for keeping it safe and fun, and thanks to John Carney, Single track minds and Wembley cycles for putting on such a great event. Until Next time Ryan Willmot

09.01.2022 That's a wrap from Thailand, Tour de Phuket. The boys finished the last stage off on a high with Tim taking the win from a bunch sprint. The team rode hard and employed some aggressive tactics to try and take GC as well but fell just short by less than two seconds with Tim taking 2nd overall. The team took out 3rd overall on the teams classification and Tim also taking 2nd on the KOM classification after a pretty hard fought battle on some seriously steep bergs today. Thanks to the guys from Cycosports for putting on a great and well run event, we hope to be back in the future.

08.01.2022 Dwellingup D50 Duo Looking at the weather situation all week all riders in todays race knew it was going to be wet. But wet would end up being an understatement Starting at 10am myself and Team mate for the Duo format Luke Banham decided the best warm up was to remain in the car with the Heater on high until the 9.50 when we sprung to life and headed down to the start line.... Still managing to get on the front row and already shivering in the brutally cold and wet conditions we began. Holding about 3rd pair into the first few km I felt as though we could give a bit more so I headed to the front and pulled a hard turn only to miss a turn off taking about 5 riders with me. Luke luckily seen us jumping off our bikes running back to the correct way and turned early putting himself in a great position for the following downhill. I made the mistake of getting crossed up down the hill trying to make up the spots I had lost and ended up on my back lying in a ditch with the bike atop of me. Getting up and giving the bike and myself a once over we headed up a long climb and back into the single track. This is where the heavens opened and puddles became dams. After hitting one of these large amounts of water and going completely under we then slowed for each just in case and I found myself treading very carefully downhill with my first big MTB crash affecting me a little. After passing a team with a flat tyre I realised we must be back up to a strong position as I knew the class of the riders fixing the puncture so we pushed on. Once again slowing on a descent the punctured riders managed to catch and pass us and we then settled into a pace for the last 20km. Rear brakes becoming very useless we traversed hells gate without mishap and got into Marrinup nearing the water stop. This is where we found out we were in 4th place not far behind 3rd so we upped our tempo on the fast sections with Luke and I using our road background to maximum. At this point both Luke and I could not feel our legs, numb from the cold and pushing so hard. Releaved to cross the line in just over two and a half hours we had managed to stay in 4th place overall wondering what could have been if silly me hadnt taken a fall but extremely happy to finish where we did in such appalling conditions. A massive thank you to our sponsors Daniel and Kelly Gray at KD Cycles Rockingham for keeping our Bikes and selves ready to race and thanks to Tony Tucknott and his helpers for running the race. Until next time Ryan

03.01.2022 Another stellar ride by the boys in Thailand today. On a very hot and humid morning the guys tackled stage 2, positioning themselves well at the front of the pack for the entire stage and watching the larger teams closely. Ren attempted a daring solo attack during the hillier part of today's stage, staying away for an awfully long time but was brought back just prior to the first KOM climb. Tim attacked from the base of the climb and held on to take 2nd over the top. Not even... 10km later and another KOM climb where Tim once again took 2nd over the line. The run to the line today consisted of a fast 3 lane highway and with 2km to go a sharp left turn into a single lane littered with speed bumps, the road slightly rises all the way to the line. The decision was made to try and get Tim up for a win as he had great legs all day. Ren drove the pack to ensure Tim and Dave were at the front for the last corner. From here they drilled it as hard as possible with Tim jumping out and sprinting from about 200m to go and taking 2nd. Adam unfortunately lost contact with the group over the final climb of the day and had a long hard chase still giving it his all. The team now has 3 in the top ten overall with Tim, Dave and Ren. They are also sitting second in the team classification with the final stage tomorrow. A few photos to follow after tonight's presentation.
