21.01.2022 Time is running out for employers to take up the Government’s Superannuation Guarantee (‘SG’) Amnesty, which expires at on 7 September 2020. Catch up on unpaid super once and for all! *The amnesty allows eligible employers to disclose and pay SG charge (‘SGC’) amounts owing from 1 July 1992 to 31 March 2018, without incurring penalties (up to 200% of the SGC) or administration fees ($20 per employee, per quarter) that would otherwise apply. SGC payments made during the a...mnesty period (i.e., 24 May 2018 to 7 September 2020) are tax deductible. *To participate in the amnesty, applications must be received by the ATO by 7 September 2020. Even if employers are unable to pay the amount owing, the ATO has advised it will work with employers to establish a payment plan tailored to their circumstances. *Employers with unpaid SGC amounts that do not come forward during the amnesty period risk significant penalties applying (including a minimum of 100% of the unpaid SGC) if later discovered by the ATO. You can claim tax deductions for your sun protection costs each year, this includes items such as suncream, hats and sunglasses. Employees who could claim sun protection tax deductions include: Pilots and airline staff... Builders Tradespeople Couriers and delivery people Farmers Fishermen Foresters and gamekeepers Landscapers and gardeners Miners Sports professionals Coaches and trainers Outdoor recreation staff Keep in mind though... There must be a genuine connection between the cost of the sun protection equipment, hat or sunscreen and your income earning activities. If you use the sun protection items for personal use as well, you must claim only the work-related percentage of the costs. TIP: Keep things simple. Where possible, purchase sun protection items that you use for work separately and keep the receipts with your work- related expense records.
