22.01.2022 Strength through flexibility. - The definition of functional training is knowing where to be mobile and where to be taut, through movement. - As a gymnast, martial artist and a dancer the two pillars of training were strength and flexibility. To have great posture; to stand tall and proud one must have an adequate amount of strength and flexibility in antagonist muscle groups.... - The more range of motion you have through a joint/movement, the more muscle fibres you recruit and in turn get better results. Move too far, the muscle tears. - One of my favourite sayings is from within, so without. Everything external is a representation and direct reflection of our internal processes. Our mobility and open mindedness allows for more fluid movement through life within the limitations of knowing yourself well enough to be firm in your boundaries. - Some people will tell you Im stubborn. Was there enough air? - Just like the air, even with 7billion people on earth theres an unlimited amount of everything. The thoughts around things being in lack would suggest that theres a cap on resources however theres an abundance and unlimited amount of anything well ever need or want but thats the vision and belief youd have to take on before having access to it. Believing theres a lack of anything will only allow you to focus on the amount of whatever you already have rather than on what you have access to and in turn what youre able to receive. If I said to you, only focus on the air in your lungs then youd be right in thinking theres not enough air to last a lifetime or to grow with and keep living. By stepping into the parties and the good times, the only thing... I missed out on was the opportunity to step into my true self and my calling however I know I needed all of those experiences to be who I am and in turn, want to do what I do. - I spent my morning with these incredible humans strategically planning a portion of the next chapter of our lives. 18.01.2022 Controversial post coming up - Over the last 16 years as a coach, If i’d received a dollar for every time I heard the expression, everything in moderation, I’d be retired in the Bahamas or sailing the world on a luxury yacht with the likes of Branson and other multi-MULTI millionaires. - What my 16 years as a coach has provided me with, is opportunities to provide a service to a very diverse range of the population from the extremely successful, through to a portion of th...e demographic that have endured or are enduring extreme suffering, through to the extremely moderate. - Having worked with thousands of people in this time I’d be crazy not to have seen patterns in people that produce the outcomes of their lives and even through my own experiences am able to see the habits that contribute to the behaviours and attitudes that produce specific results. - The definition of moderation is the avoidance of excess or extreme, and it fascinates me that people think avoiding extremes can reverse an opposite extreme. Moderation didn’t make you fat. Moderation didn’t make you broke. Moderation didn’t give you health complications. Moderation didn’t give you a heart attack and moderation didn’t lead to the break down of your relationships. - It’s the extreme inaction around those things that have led you down a slippery slope and for most, it’s not until those things reach the point of being painful that they realise that extreme action needs to be taken to see a shift in the needle in a positive motion to start getting traction in a positive direction. If your needle is balanced or idling from living within the realms of moderation or worse still, you’re facing adversity, you’re stuck in reverse and absolute worst case scenario taking action in the wrong direction to sabotage your success: it’s going to take a shift in gears and flooring of the accelerator to start getting positive traction in the right direction. - Balance and moderation are earned, they’re certainly not a right and that right isn’t earned until you reach a level of achievement that you’re satisfied with. 16.01.2022 Im not saying any of this to impress you but rather to impress upon you the importance of exercising self control where its appropriate. Theres a level of obsession any successful person has with an insatiable desire to succeed but theres something to be said for self control to also be exercised around that obsession and knowing when that obsession becomes unhealthy - Ill give you an example. Those of you who follow my page and stories would have become familiar with my... athlete @nicole.rita_ who recently competed at the @ifbbproleagueoz state and national titles. In March wed committed to competing in October and mapped out a plan to achieve an amazing transformation. That plan included working alignment with a strict training and nutrition plan that allowed for little room for error to achieve a specific result. Nicoles level of of obsession to achieve was second to none however, before stepping on stage even at a state level the plan for the next step was already in place. - Self control works both ways and post competition was the perfect time to exercise self control around the obsession to succeed and giving the mind and body the opportunity to relax. Pictured above, you see Nic with two burgers (ok, one of them was mine). For the two days after the national contest wed planned for Nicole to have a free ticket on her food selection to enjoy and indulge in some foods that had been absent from her meal plan for some time. This wasnt an opportunity or exercise for her to stuff her face but rather to allow the pressure to be taken off mentally and physically; that its Okay to eat certain foods provided the timing is appropriate and to allow Nicole to move forward with a healthy relationship with food. Theres no such thing as bad foods but there definitely are inappropriate volumes of food and inappropriate times to have them. - After two days off, Nic is back on the band wagon and were starting to reverse diet her to maintain a health level of body fat and body weight before starting the prep for the next contest. 08.01.2022 Fall down seven times, stand up right. - What I love about martial arts, dance and gymnastics are the philosophies that are as relevant to life as they are to the arts. - What Id learned through practising and studying various art forms is that one day, youll get it. Take enough action and be resilient and one day, youll get it but getting it, must be the only option that exists for you.... - Interestingly, were born with the belief system that Ill get it, or achieving is the only option. Babys will intuitively crawl then one day have the understanding that the people from who they mimic their version of the world are doing something very different. Theyre walking. So... what does the baby do? It tries to stand up. Not only will a baby do that with 100% intensity, theyll do it whether the people theyre around are cheering them on or laughing at them falling down and when they fall down, get straight back up and try again. Theres not even a concept that falling is failing, just that that particular version didnt work. - Could you imagine what the world would look like if babys were born with the fear of failing? 95% of the world would still be crawling. Unfortunately, at some point in life the belief that failing is bad and develop fears around that and the intensity at which people strive to achieve becomes less and less. 08.01.2022 This is to everyone going through some challenges (so everyone)... A young gymnast comes home after a day of training and failing to land her tumbles. She says to her mum this is too hard, I quit. - Her mum replied if you want to quit, then thats fine but quit tomorrow.... - The young girl returns to training the following day, has a great day and lands all of her tumbles. She gets home that night and her mum says shall I cancel your training? Oh NO! Says the little girl. I had a great day at training. - The mum goes on to say, if you want to quit gymnastics, thats ok but quit on a good day. Quitting on a bad day is easy but if you can come to me on a good day when youve given it your best, given it all youve got and had a win and STILL tell me this isnt for you then I can accept that this really isnt what you want. - As a trainer, I see so many people throwing in the towel when they have set backs. Getting results, achievements and being successful is hard and they dont come without failure or set backs. Nothing ever goes to plan but plans are devised to revert back to when the unexpected happens and the unexpected will happen. Quitting on a bad day is easy, anyone can do that. If you can give up on a day that everything has gone to plan, youve made positive traction towards your goal and achieved any kind of success, then give up. If youre thinking of quitting, ask yourself have I given this every last drop or is my ego a little bruised because Im not where I expected myself to be? Ive had the honour and the privilege of being part of a journey thats seen a transition and shift in the attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that have seen you transform physically and psychologically from being the girl next door, and fresh off the boat from leading an... entirely different lifestyle in London into a fierce, glowing athlete. - As a coach, it can be incredibly frustrating seeing people have so much potential, who then let either life, limiting beliefs and themselves get in the way of becoming something great. What Im most proud of, is that in the times youve felt challenged going through this prep, youve managed to put those feelings to the side, embrace the discomfort and push through your fears to fully embrace the person youve become and step into every ounce of potential you possess. I missed out on was the opportunity to step into my true self and my calling however I know I needed all of those experiences to be who I am and in turn, want to do what I do. - I spent my morning with these incredible humans strategically planning a portion of the next chapter of our lives. 06.01.2022 Its great having one of my O.Gs back for some one on one training and checking out The Mecca @dohertysgymperth - Its not that things are difficult to start, its not starting things that make them@seem difficult to do. After some time off from the gym (although you couldnt tell), Maya had delayed coming back to the gym for some time but the hardest part was actually getting there. So often I see a delay in people kicking off their goals, chasing their dreams or getting w...hat they want because they either dont feel ready or the time just doesnt feel right. Heres the thing, the time is never right and youll never feel ready. When it comes to setting and achieving goals there will always be a degree of uncertainty making the process hard to start with the unknown holding us back, feeling like we need to know everything and every detail to start the process when the reality is, you only need to know the first step then following on from that you can figure out the second, before the third and then the fifth until the completion of your goal. Similar to saying you have a goal to drive to the opposite side of the country in the dark, IMPOSSIBLE to know every road; every corner; every twist, turn, bump or pothole. The first step is knowing which direction to start driving in, getting in your car, turn the engine and your headlights on and take action to the direction youre heading. As you start driving in the dark, your headlights will light up the road in front of you and you can easily navigate the next few hundred meters ahead. On your journey across the country youll see signs, telling you which turns to take and which highway will lead you on the next leg on your journey and then its only a matter of time before you reach your destination. The journey can take some time... but youll get there. - If youre waiting for your ducks to line up before making your move, like ducklings, its only when the mother or father duck take the lead and starts taking action that the other ducks line up and follow suit.
