19.01.2022 Join #teamVHAP and see the benefits! We love seeing our young athletes grow, develop in not only athletic ability, but self-confidence so they become winners in everything they do.

18.01.2022 Brad Byrnes started lifting with the aim of competing at the Emergency Services Games in 2017 in the sport of powerlifting. After having injuries to back and shoulder in the past, he was nervous about setting goals in case of injury. Brad is a perfect example of what training mobility and stability until it is able to cope with heavy lifting does. ... Brad has set good, realistic and achievable goals and is already on the way to achieving some big goals with his bench press, having hit a 107.5kg easy single already in training on the way to April 2016! Great work so far, hoping to blow that total goal away in April!!

11.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS to all the Powerlifters who competed in our Lionheart Barbell Club Open yesterday, 27 May 2017! Its always great to see so many young lifters, ...and novice lifters coming into the sport. I would like to thank each person individually who came and helped yesterday. Kelvin Reid - thanks for spotting - coming straight off night shift, driving in to Rockhampton to watch Mackenzie and helping. Your help is always appreciated mate. Chea Reid - for entering in all our data, massive help! Brad Byrnes - I know you would have wanted to compete, but thanks tons for spotting, especially back spotting on squats, massive help mate, really appreciated! Max Gambling, Denzell Zanatta and Will Jennison - I know exams are coming up, and there is always other things to do on Saturdays, so boys thanks heaps for making the time to help out and spot and load, which is probably one of the hardest jobs to do in powerlifting. To the referees who did their provisional referees course - I hope I do not get any names wrong - Kara, Christine, Angus, Damien, Greg, and Krishelle (I hope i did not forget anyone!) Special thanks to Mary Macken, who came up and helped out with refereeing, and ran our Level 1 referee course for us. Flights were a challenge, but we really appreciate you taking time out of your weekend to help us out in our competition. Really appreciate everyone who came along and lifted and who watched. The competition yesterday was probably a bit hard to actually participate in sometimes because of the stop/start and and set up yesterday. But, from what I saw, everyone did some great PBs and hopefully learned a heap. We are probably looking at another competition in Rockhampton in November or December, possibly the first weekend of school holidays to allow easier travelling?

10.01.2022 Some seriously good #SEVEREfun is about to happen in training over the coming weeks!! We have just ordered our first wrap roller, and a few Slingshots, plus some bench boards to have a look at these overload techniques in our training cycles. Variety is really important in training, especially the more we train, so some Overload Training is useful, but not all the time remember! ...Continue reading

05.01.2022 **IMPORTANT UPDATE** Lionheart Barbell Club is for anyone wanting a unique and personalised experience around learning about powerlifting or weightlifting. Announcing our coaching staff with more to come for 2016. ... Glenn Hansen - who has now coached lifters with more than 20 National, Oceania, Commonwealth and 1 World Record attempts now! Official Australian Powerlifting Coach at the 2015 World Championships in Salo, Finland, Glenn has over 20 years of weightlifting experience and has really taken to powerlifting over the past few years. "I love the idea of being able to turn going to gym into a sport. It gives more purpose of being in the gym than just being there to be healthy. You can truly test yourself in competitions and know that the training you are doing is working, by making you stronger, both mentally and physically. The thing I most love about powerlifting is the community that exists in the sport. Everyone is so humble and helpful. I love the fact that anyone can do it, it is not a sport that cares about body image, just your own personal bests, and if that is good enough to compete on a world stage, then so be it." Glenn Hansen. Samantha Thomasson - World record holder - 85kg Bench Press at 61.9kg bodyweight - U63kg Sub Junior Women. Ranked 5th in world for U63kg sub junior women. Sam has built an impressive profile as a young powerlifter. She has proven over and over now that she can get to a competition and put all her training to good practice. Sam has more than 6 years gymnastics coaching experience now and will put that to good use helping to drive your performance. If you want to really explode your powerlifting or weightlifting performance in 2016 then Lionheart Barbell Club is for you. We are conducting training sessions on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights. We will put up times over the coming weeks, where we will aim to have dedicated junior powerlifting sessions and senior lifting times. We are offering key-only access to our gym this year, to help with people who are on different shift rosters to allow you to get your training done even when we are not there. We are looking forward to seeing you come down and find out more. We are going to have an open day early in 2016 to let you find out more about powerlifting and our barbell club.

05.01.2022 Awesome session this morning with the Emmaus Rugby League Team in the preparation for the Confraternity Shield in June. The boys have been working really hard ...over the past months and this morning we have some #SEVEREfun and managed to #Shaketheweights "Teamwork is about doing the hard work together. It is one unit bonded by hard work, sweat and the ability to get the job done when you are at your worst." ANON This symbolises what we are building here. Well done boys!

04.01.2022 MASSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT! Najat Koury, who is currently Australias strongest Powerlifting Australia athlete is coming to compete in Rockhampton on the 2nd Decembe...r! So, why did I ask Naj to come and compete in Rockhampton? I met Naj properly in Texas, as part of my role as a coach with the Australian Powerlifting Team in 2016. I consider myself privileged to have coached Naj on the platform in Texas, where she placed 5th in the World. She has a fantastic attitude towards lifting and what it provides for her, and what it does not, and for any aspiring female powerlifter or strength athlete, to compete with her and to get the chance to watch Australias best athlete compete is an amazing experience. The entry form for the competition is now online, so if you would like to compete, and you have never done Powerlifting before, now is the time to message us at Vector Health, where we can get you started on a program to compete for your first time. I hope to see lots of people at this competition, last one for the year and a good chance to end your year on a great note!

02.01.2022 Why is bar speed so important in strength and power training? So, you are at the gym and trying to get stronger. You lift heavy all the time and you notice that it is not helping as much as you want it to in sport. You see people that are not as strong as you in the gym and they hit harder or run faster or jump higher than you on the field. Why? ... Maybe you are training until you are tired all the time, so you are constantly tired? If you are tired, what is the chances of being at your best? So, if you train heavy all the time, and you are not trying to make things go quicker, then how do you increase your power? Power is the thing that matters in sport, and then the ability to repeat it? If you are spending too long in the concentric phase of a lift, and not resting long enough between efforts then you are just working on fitness half the time, as you are not giving your neuromuscular system time to recover between efforts enough to really improve your speed of movement. So, lighten the load, speed up the repetition and try to then repeat this set after set. Then increase loads slowly and keep your focus on speed. It must just make you see a change in your performance that sees you be the person that everyone is asking the questions about.

02.01.2022 Hi everyone please vote for Vector Health in the Peoples Choice award for this years Capricornia Business Awards! Thanks so much :)

02.01.2022 OPPORTUNITY for Level 1 ASCA Strength and Conditioning Coach! Please read and apply. Please share! Great opportunity for a student to gain valuable practical experience.

02.01.2022 Massive congratulations to Adam Rawsthorne who started doing some coaching with me after our competition in February. Since our coaching he is moving up in strength nicely focusing on bar speed, working on maximising leverage points and focusing on technique in training over anything else. Tonight was 220kg here, which was his previous competition PB. The way he is going, this will be an opener soon... Well done mate for sticking at a good solid conditioning cycle, looking forward to what happens in 3 weeks at next comp!

02.01.2022 Great work today by Sam Thomasson - in the lead up to her practice competition next weekend. Bit over 2 x bodyweight here and looking good. More in the tank so next week its go back to ground zero and do another 8 week cycle to peak for world championships. Sam has really stuck to her guns in this program and done the hard work early. This was a 10kg PB today and she smashed it. Looking forward to next cycle, which is going to be full of PBs

01.01.2022 Well done to Hannah Mounsey, who is re-creating what her idea of strong is at the moment. I said to Hannah after our February competition that before she next competed this is what I wanted from her in training: 1. Consistently hit depth every rep in squat training. ... 2. Rep her third attempt at bench easily in training. 3. Deadlift 130kg in training. So, I thought that this would take 8 weeks and then we would start preparing for nationals later in the year. Hannah has shown what focusing on bar speed and lifting technique every rep does. She has gone from making a 90kg squat look difficult, slow and frustrating to making it her bitch. She has already done her 1RM for reps in training in bench, and last week did 5 x 120kg deadlift, which equates to a 130kg lift I would think. It is amazing what setting specific goals does for people. It gives you something to focus on and to drive towards. Well done Hannah, I am really looking forward to your next competition to see a massive total improvement!

01.01.2022 Another congratulations to James Kowald, who also has seen some awesome improvements in his lifting since February competition. He has turned his 1RM from December now into a 5x5 today and made it look mostly easy and speed was awesome. At a light bodyweight of around 48-50kg, he is rapidly approaching dominating double bodyweight lifting! Anyone can do powerlifting and get strong. No matter how big or little. James is proof of what programming and following a plan does.
