14.01.2022 Scammers prey on people when they are most vulnerable. Sadly, this means that the current pandemic is an opportunity for scammers to sneak past your usual defences. Be extremely careful of opening links and forms in emails, text messages and social media that claim to be official information, especially from MyGov, Health Department, Centrelink, hospitals, banks, and mobile or internet service providers. If in doubt, delete.

We are extremely concerned about this email as, on the surface, it l...ooks like it is from Aussie Broadband. Here's a breakdown of some things that aren't right: 1. The website link towards the end of the email redirects to another website that is in no way associated with Aussie Broadband. 2. The 'From' email address has been spoofed as [email protected], which is not an email address we use here at Aussie. If we are contacting you about an issue with payment or are responding to you about a support request, we will contact you on [email protected] As we have stated before, please do not click on any links in suspicious-looking emails. We recommend hovering over links and seeing what pops up. If it isn't the same, that can be a red flag. Thank you to the awesome customers that have let us know about this scam. 12.01.2022 The latest major update of Windows 10 is out. As always, I recommend you do a full backup of your data before upgrading. For those that want to upgrade now use the website below. If not, do your backup now anyway as this update will roll out automatically over the next couple of weeks.

12.01.2022 Lilydale Flying School, together with the McAuliffe Aviation Trust, are delighted to announce the two winners of their inaugural Scholarship for 2018 - Ella Rob...erts and Nerita Somers. This is an annual scholarship dedicated to assisting deserving recipients with their flying aspirations and broadening their aviation horizons. The two have been awarded 25 hrs of dual flying time each, with an LFS instructor in a brand new Jabiru J160. Good luck and blue skies from here on in girls - well earned indeed! 11.01.2022 NBN and changing plans For the residents of central Korumburra, the NBN has now been switched on. The new technology on offer is FTTN (Fibre To The Node). This is where fibre optic cables are run to the new green boxes (nodes) that have sprouted up all over Korumburras nature strips. From the green boxes, your old copper phone lines are used to run NBN into your home. Before you decide to make the switch to FTTN, I do have some pointers:... You dont have to go with Telstra. Telstra are sending NBN modems to existing customers of their fixed line service. This includes ADSL internet customers as well as people who only have a fixed line phone service. Telstra are hoping that you will plug in the modem and activate their FTTN service without thinking about whether you really want the service. Beware. If you currently use your Telstra connection for a phone line, not an internet service, make sure that you do not use the modem to accidentally sign up for an internet service that you dont need. If you do want to access the NBN using FTTN, there are many companies that offer NBN internet services at faster speeds (100Mb/s) than the Telstra plans (which currently have a maximum limit of 50Mb/s). With many of these alternative providers you do not have to enter into a fixed-term contract. If you want to use Telstra NBN you can activate the service using the Telstra-supplied modem, but be aware that you will be entering into a new two-year contract regardless of how much time is left on your current Telstra internet contract. Remember that if you are out of your contract period, you are free to switch companies. You are not obliged to use the Telstra modem. There has been a lot of negative press about the NBN service. While much of it has been justified, NBN in our area is working pretty well now. Earlier last year the service was quite poor, but the fixed wireless service has since been upgraded to the point where, excluding peak period congestion, I get speeds above 40Mb/s at my address most of the time. People often ask me who I use for my internet service. My provider is Aussie Broadband and I can recommend them. They are a nationwide company, but are based in Morwell and have a local call centre which makes it easy to communicate with them. If you do choose them, dont forget to mention my name as they have a referral program. Shop around. There are many providers and many will have the deal that is right for you. If you want to check your current internet speed you can do that at http://www.speedtest.net. And if youre not sure what type of NBN service is available to you, you can find out by entering your address at the NBN website:

10.01.2022 Windows 7 was great in its day, but technology has moved on and Windows 7 has now come to the end of its support lifecycle. This means that if you havent already upgraded to Windows 10 you should do so now. Please dont persist, an unsupported operating system is too risky. Contact me if you need assistance.

Remote support: I have been providing remote support for a number of years and many customers have found it to be an effective and time-saving way to have their problems fixed without leaving home.... Workshop service: For computer hardware problems, I am still servicing computers in my office. To minimise physical contact, I have set up a table outside my office with instructions for filling out a job sheet and contacting me to retrieve the computer. When the job is complete, I will wipe the computer down with isopropyl alcohol and return it to the table for you to pick up.
