21.01.2022 At a very fundamental level playing football is simply about space. It is about where the ball is, and where it can go, whilst always being mindful of the underlying objectives of the game. And it is about where the players are, and where they can go.... Fundamental footwork patterns are a critical tool in this process. Below is another video in the FFP series , and this video continues to look at the footwork system that TST bases its development process on.

20.01.2022 Coming to the end of term 4 2020 ( 1 session left) and looking towards the 2021......

18.01.2022 We base the footwork we do at TST on the basic standard footwork model outlined in TFT's online technical development resource : (https://bit.ly/39U530u). This model looks at footwork as simply a tool to use when dealing with pressure. If the solution to a 'face on pressure problem' is to get to the lateral space, then an 'Inside switch Outside' Footwork pattern is a great tool to use in such a moment.... However, to simply look at a football moment as a 'problem solution' exercise without developing the necessary tools needed to solve a problem, would be like trying fixing a screw to something without a screw driver. So since football technique development is largely about developing the tools (albeit in context as much as possible) we have started a new video series : FFP of the week : Hopefully there is something in this for players of all levels. This week we look at an : Inside switch Outside. Feel free to share to anyone you know who has an interest in the football technique development journey.

08.01.2022 Saw this instagram post [ https://www.instagram.com/p/CISvWqOJfqD/ ] yesterday. ' Slow provides the time for us to feel and to notice. It calls on us to be present. Slow expands what we feel, making it easier for the brain to perceive differences so there is an opening for us to do something new. A difference that it not perceived does not exist. The feeling of what happens is at the core of everything we do.'... If this is true ( if truth exists anymore) then what are the implications for Australian Football and player development. How many coaches, parents and players put intensity and speed of play above a true long term technical development process. At a young age, intensity and speed of movement will have a much bigger influence over results than technique will. So if you want to win games and be a better player when young focus on speed, not technique. Whilst also knowing that when speed comes before true technical development, then advanced technical competence will never be attained (as a general rule - exceptions will always apply as there will always be players with a high level of natural ability). The policy of speed before technique is geared solely towards players with elite level natural technical ability and elite level athleticism. In terms of player development it is a sink or swim policy of development. This may work in Europe where the player pool is huge ........but is this best practice for a country where the player pool is small, and a football culture doesn't exist ???

02.01.2022 Hi all I worked with a young player at the weekend who was struggling to make the right shapes around the ball when controlling and passing the ball. His flexibility was good but he simply had not yet developed the muscle strength and coordination in his body to do the technique required well enough to be at a functional level.... Turning the foot out and locking it in place, starts with the muscles in the back - it is not just the foot - there's a lot going on in the body to get the right shape and action when passing. It is a simple fix, although may require a prolonged ( a couple of months), consistent and regular period of doing simple exercises (with a little bit of improvement each day - don't expect instant results - the body's neuro-muscular system needs time to adapt). CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO I made this video years ago and is now part of a series of videos on this page (The Absolute Basics Series [https://bit.ly/2KrydJC] ) in the TFT on-line technical development resource. [https://bit.ly/39U530u] All players could in fact check their absolute basics. Even players who can control and pass the ball at a functional level may not yet be fully developed in terms of foot flexibility, dexterity and strength.
