17.01.2022 TECH NEWS What is Australia doing on a governmental level to prepare for the imminent AI boom? By Benny D.X. Chen... 06/06/2018 07:04 PM AEST It is no doubt that Artificial Intelligence and automation would have an unprecedented effect on the lives of human beings once it has reached the level experts dub ‘Artificial Super Intelligence’. This hasn’t been forecasted to happen for at least another couple decades, however, in its current form AI is nevertheless making significant changes to the way we live our lives and within as little as the next 10 years, economies across the globe would be profoundly impacted. Already, nations are taking big steps towards preparing for this futurethe EU and China are two major players in the international system worth mentioning who are currently investing billions into AI research in both their public and private sectors. Alas, the same urgency hasn’t been shown by Australia. According to a report by economics and consulting firm AlphaBeta, with AI at its current level, two hours of work each week on average will be taken from Australian workers over the next 15 years (this is assuming AI technology doesn’t develop and stays at its current level for the next 15 years, which certainly will not be the case). In history it has been somewhat of a given that Australia will lag behind current international trends, none however will be as profound, will have as big an impact and will leave Australia behind the rest of the world as AI will if continued governmental inaction persists. To ensure the Australian economy reaps the full benefits of the AI boom, governmental action must be taken now in both the private and public sectorsfunding for research, private companies and think-tanks for restructuring the economy and workforce is essential if Australia is not to miss out. TechPeek is one such private company that is helping Australian businesses prepare for the change. At TechPeek our vision is to transform Sydney into the world’s first ‘purpose-driven tech capital of the world’ in order to help Australia smoothly transition into the next age, the Artificial Intelligence Age. ___ http://www.abc.net.au//australia-must-embrace-ai-r/8774044
