They will each be receiving double community grants of $300 each !! 21.01.2022 Is your child stuttering?? Stuttering can take the form of repeating sounds, words or phrases or even stretching out the sounds in words There are 2 types of stutters- one is a developmental type stutter that often appears when a child is starting to put together a few words at a time and resolves itself fairly quickly The other type of stutter can be more ingrained and may require therapy If your child has been stuttering for more than 6-12months or has become self consciou...s or concerned about their stuttering its important to seek help from a speech pathologist Heres some tips to assist you when talking with your child who may be stuttering If you have any extra questions Leonie, Harriet and Caitlin are really happy to answer any further questions you may have

19.01.2022 So who has a child with a big booming voice thats at top note all the time?? With all of us spending a lot more time at home it can start to become difficult to manage and tolerate This volume chart can help our children understand the need for different volumes in different places ... Instead of us needing to ask them to quieten down or use their inside voice we can explain the different parts of the chart and move a counter to where they are and discuss where we would like them to be It takes a bit of practice for them but it really works!

15.01.2022 How do we help our child move from saying single words only to joining words together into short phrases and sentences?? Carrier phrases can help!! They are strings of words that can be used over and over to start off a phrase or sentence ... They can be starter phrases like: I want, I need, I see a Can you help.... Here, one of our speech pathologists, Leonie shares how we can use this strategy with our children !

Here’s an ‘Emotions Thermometer’ that can be put in a central spot in the house and can help our children point out how they are feeling, even if they don’t have the words just yet You may also be able to come up with a few ideas together that may help a child move to the ‘blue zone’ together such as playing music, counting to 10 or taking 3 deep breaths ... 13.01.2022 Who has a child who you would love to listen more?? This information sheet can be kept somewhere central in the home. It gives children a visual prompt and helps them become aware that many parts of their body are needed for good listening It can be a lovely way to help them gain the most information from someone talking to them!

11.01.2022 Theres been so many unexpected changes for our children to adapt to and manage recently! Some may also be returning to school or childcare soon so another routine to get used to again! Heres a schedule that could be placed on the fridge or somewhere central in the house. We can use this schedule with our children to give them ideas on in what they can do when it all gets a bit too much!... Let me say theres been a few times recently, Ive needed this too!

Our speech pathologists Caitlin, Harriet and Leonie are accredited to administer the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale (ADOS) assessment. ... This important assessment provides information relating to observations of autistic type behaviours Although this assessment doesnt provide a diagnosis , it can provide your paediatrician with extra information that is needed Please call our clinic if you have questions on 07 3800 9491

05.01.2022 Many of you will be aware that a 3-day lockdown in Brisbane commences at 6pm Friday 8th through to Monday 11th 6pm. As we are an essential service we will be remaining OPEN throughout the lockdown. We have the option to provide speech therapy via Telehealth also All Patients and staff will be required to wear masks. We are able to supply masks to you if needed. ... We ask that all patients use hand sanitiser on the way in, and assist us by maintaining social distancing and bringing only one support person with you. Our staff will continue to wipe down all contact areas such as door handles and furniture on a regular basis throughout each day. We are looking forward to seeing our children to help develop their communication on Monday!! We will get through this together !

Place or draw a picture of the 2 actions /objects you would like to happen and then refer back to it for them each time you give them the instructions ... First toothpaste on toothbrush Then brush your teeth It can be kept as a visual for a life skill they are learning eg brushing teeth, putting socks and shoes on themselves , packing their backpack
