25.01.2022 This is the oldest tree in Madrid, Spain. Planted approx. 1630, almost 400 years old!! It’s a Taxodium mucronatum - Montezuma Cypress. A beautiful specimen that was once used as a cannon mount by Napoleons army. 21.01.2022 Stumbled across a little crop of these a few weeks ago, Amanita muscaria, probably the most recognizable mushroom, native to the northern hemisphere, brought to Australia with the import of some conifers. Unfortunately like most things introduced to Australia, it can over take local species. . Swipe to see it at different stages. . There are some theories that this was a large influence for Christmas traditions... Little red and white mushrooms grow at the base of Pine tree...s in Winter, Reindeers eat them, Shamans would bring them to people as presents while dressing as the mushroom (red and white).
