21.01.2022 When youve got dry skin but are also breaking out, finding skincare can be really confusing. Dry skin wont like the typical acne products as they can further dry out the skin. The more dry your skin, the higher chance of causing an impaired barrier and increasing irritation - these things can make your skin even more inflamed and your breakouts worse. Skin heals better when its hydrated, so when looking at putting together a routine for dry acne, focus on getting your s...kin super hydrated first. Hyaluronic acid a must, its lightweight so it wont clog pores, but it will also deeply hydrate the skin. You NEED a Hyaluronic. Stick with a gentle cleanser. If you want to use AHAs, use them in products that you can sub in and out rather than a cleanser you need to use every day. Time for an acne treatment. There are some great options out there that dont use salicylic acid. My go-tos are Aspect Clear Skin Complex and Aspect Jungle Brew. If you do want to use something with Salicylic acid, Socit Clarity Bac is a moisturiser that you can use a few times a week or more depending on how well you tolerate the salicylic. Avoid clays! Theyre not for you my dry skinned friends. Grab yourself some Socit Peptide Masks instead. Theyre a dream for dry skin and promote healing. Another key essential that I recommend for anyone with breakouts is Aspect Extreme B17. Its my ride or die. Treatment wise, avoid strong peels. Stick with light lactic peels, LED, oxygen masks and skin needling if youre barrier is prepped. I hope this helps! #teganmacskin

20.01.2022 I get a lot of questions about supplements and if there are any I recommend. The main thing I want you all to remember is a supplement cant be made to specifically target the skin alone. The vitamins and minerals that make the supplement can be used by a lot of different functions in the body, so theres no way of guaranteeing the supplement or vitamins will be 100% used up by your skin. Collagen, Hyaluronic acid and zinc is used in many different functions and organs. If y...oure not deficient in something, your body may pass the supplement straight through your system. If you are in fact deficient in something, you need a professional to recommend you a treatment plan to help boost your levels. A generic supplements may not be beneficial. I have taken many supplements in the past, the best and most effective some have been recommended to me by nutritionists and naturopaths. I have nothing against mainstream supplements but just keep in mind theyre not magic. Skincare is effective because it provides vitamins and nourishment directly to the skin. The topical applications of skincare increases its effectiveness by bypassing the internal system and going straight into the skin. Of course, eating a nourishing diet, using great skincare and supplementing where needed can be a great combo, but just keep in mind you cant rely on supplements to do all the heavy lifting. #teganmacskin

20.01.2022 For anyone who got their hopes up with my latest Tik Tok, here are some real tips on how to safely pop a pimple! Disclaimer: please use your pimple popping powers for good, not evil. Popping a pimple shouldnt feel like an attack. It should be calm and restrained! 1. Do it after a shower at NIGHT to ensure your skin and hands are clean. Dont pop in the morning, thats an invitation for bacteria. ... 2. Dont use your fingers! Not only is is harder to pop pimples with your fingers, its also more aggressive and unhygienic. Use cotton sticks to apply equal pressure to either side of the pimple. 3. If you try to pop 3 times and still dont get it, then youve striked out. Step away and dont return until the following night. 4. If you do manage to pop it, apply product straight after. Opt for salicylic to reduce inflammation and dry out the pimple. 5. Know when to pop. You need to see a white head. Leave your blind pimples alone, we all know they wont pop!!! Give it up. Like I said, be smart with this! Otherwise expect more pimples, scarring and discoloration. #teganmacskin

20.01.2022 So youre just starting out and cant decide what you need in your routine. What 3 products will make the biggest impact? 1. Get a good cleanser. Dont underestimate the power of a good cleanse. Its the first step in your routine and can either set you up for success or failure. To pick the right cleanser for your skin, you need to consider whether youre oily/dry, If you need it to take makeup off and what your sensitivity levels are like. 2. Get an antioxidant serum based... on your main concern. For example, get Vitamin B if youre breaking out, Vitamin C if youve got pigmentation, or Hyaluronic Acid if youre dry. All of these can be used morning and night. 2. Get a retinol!!! A good quality retinol is the beat long term investment. There are lots of retinols out there and picking the wrong one can lead to irritation and limited use. Get a professional (like me) to help you decide what retinol is best for you. You want something you can use at least every second night and gives you the glow when you wake up the next day. #teganmacskin

Today, almost 4 months later, we had our second consultation to reassess our progress. We are both super happy with the results so far! Chantelle mentioned it wasnt until she put the photos side by side that she realized how far her skin had come. Progress can be subtle, but good things take time! Todays consult was all about building on her current routine. See...ing as the redness has completely settled, we are now looking at adding retinol and Hyaluronic into her routine. Your skin is the last organ to get any water, so if youre drinking under a liter you can be pretty confident that your skin isnt getting any of that. Dehydrated skin will make fine lines look more pronounced, the skin will look dull and your pimples wont heal efficiently. ... Just drink more water god dammit! No excuses! Get a big ass drink bottle and drink up. #teganmacskin

19.01.2022 Skin needling has been around for years, but its getting increasingly popular in recent times. So whats skin needling all about? Skin needling uses tiny stainless steel needles to create micro punctures into the skin to stimulate a wound healing response. How deep you needle depends on what youre trying to treat. For superficial concerns such a breakouts and rejuvenation, the needles will be used at a shallow depth. For scarring, anti aging and pigment, these concerns sit ...deeper in the skin, meaning a deeper level of needling is required. The needles cause inflammation in the skin which triggers a wound healing response. This means the skin goes into overdrive to repair and rebuild, in this process we see old pimples heal properly, and increase in collagen and elastin, a stronger skin overall. Needling comes in many forms from rollers to stamps and electric pens. Needling is serious business so its best done by a trained professional to ensure you reach the desired outcome. Downtime can be anywhere from 1-3 days depending on how intense your treatment is. I love needling and recommended everyone have at least 2 sessions of needling a year to slow down aging! #teganmacskin

17.01.2022 When you look back at photos of your younger self, what is it thats changed about your face? When you can understand what ages a face, you will be able to target those concerns with the right products and treatments. So so lets break this down, when you age, the skin tone can discolour due to sun damage. To treat this, we need to use products that focus on brightening, and treatments like peels and lasers that help to shed pigmented skin cells. Wearing spf is the easiest ...way to prevent this type of aging. Next up, things start to deflate and drop south. This is due to a reduction of collagen and elastin in the skin. Collagen makes our skin plump, as it depletes our skin starts to become sallow and flats fine lines will also start appearing. Elastin is what creates the stretch and bounce back in our skin. As this depletes, our skin becomes less stretchy and more saggy and loose. For skincare you can use a retinol to help stimulate collagen and elastin to rebuild. Peptides, vitamin c and antioxidants can also assist in rebuilding the skin and slowing down cellular regeneration. As for treatments, I love love love skin needling to help address these concerns. It directly targets the layer of the skin where collagen and elastin is made, and increase its production. The key that show age are the eyes, around the mouth, jowls, neck and hands. You can treat all of these areas with treatments and skincare. Remember spf is the best product you can use for age prevention. #teganmacskin

16.01.2022 There are 3 mains waits to exfoliate from home: chemical, physical and fruit enzymes. Chemical: this refers to your AHAs and BHAs. Youll find these ingredients in your retinols, toners, serums, exfoliating pads and in wash off masks. The benefit of using a chemical exfoliant is that is loosens up the the dead skin cells allowing them to lift off. In the clinic you can also have professional peels using chemicals exfoliants for a more resurfacing treatment. My fav at-home c...hemical exfoliant is CosMedix Defy. Physical: this refers to granular abrasion. The texture of the product will have solid pieces like crushed nut shell, bamboo, sugar or micro beads. These are used to scrub and buff dead skin off the face. This can cause irritation if the scrub is too abrasive or youre too heavy handed when applying. My fav physical exfoliant is CosMedix Glow. Enzymes: this refers to using fruit acids to loosen up dead skin and lift it off. Commonly used fruits include pineapple and papaya enzymes. The benefit of a fruit enzyme exfoliant is that its more gentle. My all time fav enzyme product is Aspect Fruit Enzyme Mask. Cant decide which one you need? Go all 3. 12.01.2022 Cant get to a clinic? You can create your own facial at home! All you need is: Cleanser Exfoliator ... Sheet Mask Serums Moisturiser 1. Start of by giving your skin a double cleanse. If you have a Foreo you can use this for your second cleanse. Take your time with this step, each cleanse should take at least 1 minute. 2. Exfoliate with your product of choice. You can steam the skin over a bowl of hot water if you prefer, or you can just use the exfoliate after a hot shower. 3. Apply your sheet mask, this step is a must! I recommend either the CosMedix Sheet Mask or Socit Peptide Mask. Let this sit on the skin for 30 minutes. 4. Apply your serums along with any left over mask juice. You can really massage these serums in using your hands or the massage side of your Foreo Luna 3. Remember to bring the product down to the chest. 5. Apply your moisturiser to the face and chest, massaging in with your hands to boost circulation. Take as much time as you like with this step. 10.01.2022 I wish skincare was the solution to every skin concern, but unfortunately its not that straight forward. Its like the old what came first, the chicken or the egg saying. If you were breaking out before starting skincare, it might not always be that your new skincare isnt working, it could be that you havent identified the true cause of your acne/rosacea etc. When dealing with the skin, were dealing with the body as a whole. We need to look beyond what is being applied... topically and start to focus on what the root causes behind skin issues are. Skincare is amazing and the results Ive seen when a client is given a solid routine is incredible, but a lot of the time its more that skin a change of routine that contributes to the results. Stress, diet, smoking habits, alcohol, intolerances, environment, medications, pre existing conditions and, hormones and gut health all play a part in the overall health of the skin. If youve tried every product under the sun and youre still not seeing the results you were hoping for, look beyond skincare. Treating the skin is a team effort, dont put all the pressure on skincare to be your miracle, but having a killer routine definitely helps! #teganmacskin
