19.01.2022 I get a lot of questions about supplements and if there are any I recommend. The main thing I want you all to remember is a supplement can’t be made to specifically target the skin alone. The vitamins and minerals that make the supplement can be used by a lot of different functions in the body, so there’s no way of guaranteeing the supplement or vitamins will be 100% used up by your skin. Collagen, Hyaluronic acid and zinc is used in many different functions and organs. If y...ou’re not deficient in something, your body may pass the supplement straight through your system. If you are in fact deficient in something, you need a professional to recommend you a treatment plan to help boost your levels. A generic supplements may not be beneficial. I have taken many supplements in the past, the best and most effective some have been recommended to me by nutritionists and naturopaths. I have nothing against mainstream supplements but just keep in mind they’re not magic. Skincare is effective because it provides vitamins and nourishment directly to the skin. The topical applications of skincare increases its effectiveness by bypassing the internal system and going straight into the skin. 07.01.2022 Skin needling has been around for years, but it’s getting increasingly popular in recent times. So what’s skin needling all about? Skin needling uses tiny stainless steel needles to create micro punctures into the skin to stimulate a wound healing response. How deep you needle depends on what you’re trying to treat. For superficial concerns such a breakouts and rejuvenation, the needles will be used at a shallow depth. For scarring, anti aging and pigment, these concerns sit ...deeper in the skin, meaning a deeper level of needling is required. The needles cause inflammation in the skin which triggers a wound healing response. This means the skin goes into overdrive to repair and rebuild, in this process we see old pimples heal properly, and increase in collagen and elastin, a stronger skin overall. Needling comes in many forms from rollers to stamps and electric pens. Needling is serious business so it’s best done by a trained professional to ensure you reach the desired outcome. Downtime can be anywhere from 1-3 days depending on how intense your treatment is. 06.01.2022 When you’ve got dry skin but are also breaking out, finding skincare can be really confusing. Dry skin won’t like the typical acne products as they can further dry out the skin. The more dry your skin, the higher chance of causing an impaired barrier and increasing irritation - these things can make your skin even more inflamed and your breakouts worse. Skin heals better when it’s hydrated, so when looking at putting together a routine for dry acne, focus on getting your s...kin super hydrated first. Hyaluronic acid a must, it’s lightweight so it won’t clog pores, but it will also deeply hydrate the skin. You NEED a Hyaluronic. Stick with a gentle cleanser. If you want to use AHA’s, use them in products that you can sub in and out rather than a cleanser you need to use every day. Time for an acne treatment. There are some great options out there that don’t use salicylic acid. My go-to’s are Aspect Clear Skin Complex and Aspect Jungle Brew. If you do want to use something with Salicylic acid, Société Clarity Bac is a moisturiser that you can use a few times a week or more depending on how well you tolerate the salicylic. Avoid clays! They’re not for you my dry skinned friends. Grab yourself some Société Peptide Masks instead. They’re a dream for dry skin and promote healing. Another key essential that I recommend for anyone with breakouts is Aspect Extreme B17. It’s my ride or die. Treatment wise, avoid strong peels. Stick with light lactic peels, LED, oxygen masks and skin needling if you’re barrier is prepped. I hope this helps! #teganmacskin

05.01.2022 Can’t get to a clinic? You can create your own facial at home! All you need is: Cleanser Exfoliator ... Sheet Mask Serums Moisturiser 1. Start of by giving your skin a double cleanse. If you have a Foreo you can use this for your second cleanse. Take your time with this step, each cleanse should take at least 1 minute. 2. Exfoliate with your product of choice. You can steam the skin over a bowl of hot water if you prefer, or you can just use the exfoliate after a hot shower. 3. Apply your sheet mask, this step is a must! I recommend either the CosMedix Sheet Mask or Société Peptide Mask. Let this sit on the skin for 30 minutes. 4. Apply your serums along with any left over mask juice. You can really massage these serums in using your hands or the massage side of your Foreo Luna 3. Remember to bring the product down to the chest. 5. Apply your moisturiser to the face and chest, massaging in with your hands to boost circulation. Take as much time as you like with this step. If you have an eye product you can apply this last using light dabbing motions with your ring fingers. Enjoy! #teganmacskin

05.01.2022 For anyone who got their hopes up with my latest Tik Tok, here are some real tips on how to safely pop a pimple! Disclaimer: please use your pimple popping powers for good, not evil. Popping a pimple shouldn’t feel like an attack. It should be calm and restrained! 1. Do it after a shower at NIGHT to ensure your skin and hands are clean. Don’t pop in the morning, that’s an invitation for bacteria. ... 2. Don’t use your fingers! Not only is is harder to pop pimples with your fingers, it’s also more aggressive and unhygienic. Use cotton sticks to apply equal pressure to either side of the pimple. 3. If you try to pop 3 times and still don’t get it, then you’ve striked out. Step away and don’t return until the following night. 4. If you do manage to pop it, apply product straight after. Opt for salicylic to reduce inflammation and dry out the pimple. 5. Know when to pop. You need to see a white head. Leave your blind pimples alone, we all know they won’t pop!!! Give it up. Like I said, be smart with this! Otherwise expect more pimples, scarring and discoloration. #teganmacskin

04.01.2022 A lot of us have been working from home the last few months, tucked away in our cozy homes. I’ve noticed a pattern in my online consults that many clients are finding their skin is feeling much dryer, more sensitive and the texture of their skin feels rough. One thing these clients have in common is working in front of a heater or well heated room. Artificial heating and air con can suck the moisture out of your skin. It’s important to be aware of how much time your spending... in a toasty room, and ensure that you’re getting fresh air circulation to prevent the air from drying out. Whether you’re naturally oily or dry, all skin types can fall victim to an impaired barrier. Sitting in front of the heater one time won’t stuff your skin up, but gradually over time, this can cause an impaired barrier. Sounds like your skin? Here’s what you can do to fix it: 1. Turn off the heater, open a window and get some fresh air. 2. Stop exfoliating. The rough texture on your skin isn’t screaming for exfoliation, it wants to be nourished and repaired. No exfoliating products until your skin feels back to normal. 3. Stock up on hydrators. 02.01.2022 Sometimes...this happens Big hormonal pimples, and it’s never just one! Once one comes they all get fomo and join the party. I just wanted to share this photo to let you know that it’s so normal to breakout. I’m 28 and it still happens, and I have clients in their 40s and it still happens. Take it from someone who has an Omnilux in their house sometimes the skin just goes rogue. ... It’s no biggie, they’re only temporary, and just as long as you’re having more good skin days than bad it’s safe to say your skin is still healthy, it just flares up around hormonal times.
