25.01.2022 What a great initiative for students in Years 7-12 to help promote mental wellbeing and physical activity, both are so important at the moment!

24.01.2022 Did you know that approximately 1 in 3 women who have had a baby experience stress urinary incontinence (SUI)? What is SUI? Stress incontinence refers to bladder leakage with tasks of increased abdominal pressure, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, running etc. It varies from a small amount to complete loss of control.... In light on World Continence Week we are raising awareness of this condition that is very common, however should never be considered a ‘normal’ part of having had a baby. Bladder leakage, no matter how small, is ever ‘normal’. Treatment of stress incontinence is specific to each individual assessment but usually includes a program of pelvic floor strengthening and teaching ‘the Knack’. ‘The Knack’ is a strong contraction of pelvic floor just before a task such as a cough or sneeze. These exercises, as well as lifestyle advice on maintaining healthy weight, can help significantly in improving these symptoms. If you struggle with incontinence or other symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction, help is available. Our women’s health trained physio Kristy is available for private consults to help you. #InvestInContinence #WCW2020 #womenshealth #stressincontinence #urgeincontinence #pelvicfloor #womenshealthphysiotherapy #supportlocal

23.01.2022 So many people we see have been prescribed Lyrica. It can be great for neuropathic pain under the right circumstances, but it’s a dangerous drug.....

They come in back & neck wraps, rectangle bags and (my personal favourite) hand warmers Heat packs can be a helpful addition to managing headaches, neck, back & pelvic pain and osteoarthritis joint pain. #winteriscoming #keepwarm #physiotherapy #healthyliving #pelvicpain #supportaustralianhandmade

15.01.2022 Breaking News: Many private insurance companies are jumping on board and recognise the benefits of TeleHealth during this COVID-19 crisis and will continue to p...rovide coverage for physiotherapy. This is essential for: - New injuries deemed appropriate for physiotherapy by a medical professional - Pelvic floor management - Current injuries - Post operative See more

14.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: Studies have shown that up to 30% of women bear down instead of lifting up when instructed to do a pelvic floor contractio...n. Don't be one of the 30%. If. you are not sure you are doing pelvic floor exercises or Kegels correctly then see a pelvic health physio. You will be assessed and taught the correct action - which includes relaxing properly at the end of each contraction. Biofeedback can help too See more

14.01.2022 This month is Hip Dysplasia Awareness Month. Hip Dysplasia is a condition that can occur, most commonly in babies & infants, where there is abnormal formation of the hip joint within its socket. Signs to look for: Uneven thigh creases (ie one side has more creases or are deeper) Noticeable leg length difference ... Noticeable ‘clicking’ of hip with movement Reduced hip range (May notice when spreading legs to change nappies) Limping or reduced weight bearing when walking Sitting with weight to one side Children’s hips are checked at birth and as part of their routine early childhood visits at 1-4 weeks, 6-8 weeks, 6-9 months, 12 months and at regular visits until 3.5 years. It is important to keep up these regular checks or to get your child’s hips checked if you notice any changes at any age as early detection is best for optimal treatment. It is encouraged that babies legs are free to move when swaddled and when in baby carriers thighs are supported by carrier, not just between legs. If you have any concerns please talk to your GP or early childhood nurse. 13.01.2022 Some great advice for those returning to netball this season on how to reduce your risk of injury. This is particularly important this season with an interrupted, shorter preseason training

12.01.2022 Our physio’s can assess your muscle function and prescribe the appropriate exercises for your knees

12.01.2022 A great guide of how to return to exercise and running postnatally. Remember running is not encouraged prior to 12 weeks postpartum (longer in some cases) and even then it should be gradual using programs such as couch to 5k. It is so important to build on the foundations and have pelvic floor checked and improve core & overall strength before considering this. Because after all you have just had a baby and that’s a big thing. If your needing guidance on how to return to exercise postnatally we are more than happy to help

12.01.2022 Getting ready for your elective hip/knee surgery and want to be in top shape for a full recovery? Talk to your physio about an exercise plan that will have you ...back to normal as quick as possible. Call to chat about your options, whether that be a telehealth appointment or in-clinic consultation. Either way, you can be assured that your health is their top priority. Go to www.choose.physio/elective-surgery

12.01.2022 In order to keep both our community, staff and their families as safe as we possibly can, our team at Temora Physio has made the decision to follow the NSW health directive to wear masks when close contact cannot be avoided in the clinic. Don’t worry, there will still be the same smiling faces behind the masks We work with some of the most vulnerable in our community and want to ensure we keep them healthy & well

11.01.2022 Today saw a changing of the guard at Temora Physiotherapy Centre. Physiotherapist Kristy Oliver, who has worked in the clinic since it opened in 2014, took over the reigns from Sally Hill of Leeton Physiotherapy Centre. A huge thank you to Kristy, physiotherapist Emily Haddrill and office staff Angela Gilchrist and Angela Blackwell for their hard work and excellent service over the years. Best wishes to Kristy as she takes on this new challenge, particularly in the current climate. We know you’ll do an awesome job Kristy!!!

11.01.2022 Our physio’s can assess your knees and provide a tailored exercise program to improve your function

11.01.2022 There have been no positive results for COVID-19 among patients who have been tested in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD). MLHD is well prepared to... care for people who may be diagnosed with COVID-19. 70 specialist nurses and nurse educators from across the District together with staff from partner organisations have undertaken training to refresh their skills in infection control and public health measures. The nurses will be out and about in our hospitals providing support to front-line staff to maximise the safety of healthcare workers and the community. In order to slow the spread of the virus, members of the community play an important role. People are asked to ensure they clean their hands thoroughly and regularly, avoid close contact with others. Members of the public are urged to avoid visiting loved ones in aged care facilities and hospitals if they have any symptoms of cold or flu. NSW Health is recommending people with acute, cold, flu-like symptoms who are returned travellers, or have been in contact with a confirmed case, be tested for COVID-19. Samples for testing can be taken directly by GPs, or at Wagga Wagga and Griffith Base Hospital screening clinics. People who are concerned are advised to: call HealthDirect 1800 022 222, where a nurse will triage them over the phone and advise as needed or contact your GP to arrange an appointment and let them know in advance if you have symptoms (Symptoms might include fever, sore throat, cough or shortness of breath). TIPS to reduce potential for transmission of the virus: avoiding crowds and mass gatherings avoiding small gatherings in enclosed spaces keep a distance of 1.5 metres between themselves and other people avoiding shaking hands, hugging, or kissing other people avoiding visiting vulnerable people, such as those in aged care facilities or hospitals. MLHD and Murrumbidgee PHN encourage members of the public who need information to visit the NSW Health website at: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/diseases

11.01.2022 Great post by @themvmtpts: "For many, a disc herniation is a frightening diagnosis to hear. This is completely reasonable reaction given the importance of the b...ack to overall function and well being. However, from multiple standpoints research indicates there is reason to be optimistic with such a diagnosis. Firstly, many disc herniations will spontaneously regress (heal). In fact, worse herniations = faster and more substantial the regression. ("The rate of spontaneous regression was found to be 96% for disc sequestration, 70% for disc extrusion, 41% for disc protrusion, and 13% for disc bulging. The rate of complete resolution of disc herniation was 43% for sequestrated discs and 15% for extruded discs.") Second, many people have disc herniations and are asymptomatic. Given this, the diagnosis on its own is not necessarily a sentence for back pain and regression may not always be needed for an improvement in symptoms. Pain is in fact multifactorial! 09.01.2022 A great step forward in raising awareness of birth trauma and the importance of pre/postnatal physiotherapy care for women We see our doctor multiple times during our pregnancy as do our babies after birth, but after birth we get one postnatal checkup at 6 weeks and an all clear to do everything we were doing pre-pregnancy no matter how difficult a birth we have or what injuries were sustained. Hopefully this is a start of a change where women go into birth informed of all their options during birth and the outcomes of this and where seeing a women’s health physio is as routine as seeing your doctor in pregnancy/postnatal

09.01.2022 A helpful service for our NDIS clients

01.01.2022 Something exciting has arrived in the practice....our new Neurotrac Obstetric TENS machine What is TENS? TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. It is a non-invasive, self-controlled form of pain relief which is safe for mother and baby.... The TENS unit is a small battery operated machine with electrodes which are positioned in specific areas to give off a buzzing or vibrating sensation. The obstretric TENS unit is designed for use in labour and has a boost button to press as contractions start to increase sensation given off by TENS. How does TENS work? TENS works through a number of mechanisms including the Pain Gate theory, release of body’s own natural pain killers and helping to distract you from the pain of contractions. TENS works best when started in early labour and can be used in conjunction with gas and pethidine. It is a useful form of pain relief in labour but does not eliminate pain. TENS can help women cope better with labour pain. We will be hiring out the obstetric TENS machine to mums-to-be for use during labour including education on how to use and set up machine. If you would like more information on how TENS can be used during labour, please call our office on 6978 0793
