25.01.2022 In May, we announced the arrival of our new Lion Mascot and we invited our community to name him (See post below). #nametheteneriffelion We have spoken with our Mascot and he is saying that he wants to meet all the name donors in person to thank them. This Saturday 13 June 2020, our Mascot will appear at the Powerhouse Market at New Farm to meeting everyone and look for a name (if weather permits).... Remember the person who successfully submitted the winning Lion name wins a Lions Club cuddly teddy bear and a $30 voucher to any My Village News Takeaway Trail venue. See you all on Saturday!

We lions support this practice to promote the health and safety of the community. This is how it is done:

Our Lions Club had received over 70 amazing name suggestions and we had a difficult time shortlisting them as there were too many good ones. Nevertheless, the Club has proceeded, and shortlisted suggestions to either Chester or Tenner. Now it is your turn to vote the best name by midnight 17 July 2020.... Reminder: The person who first submitted the winning name will win a Lions Club cuddly teddy bear and a $30 voucher to any My Village News Takeaway Trail venue. The winner will be announced via Facebook and in the August edition of My Village News.

20.01.2022 One of the Lions Global Causes is the support of the emotional and mental health of people living with diabetes. On 26/7, our Club hosted a friendly walk in our neighbourhood to support a healthier lifestyle of the community to prevent the disorder. To sum up the event, we started from the New Farm Ferry Terminal at 9:15am, walked to the Teneriffe Ferry terminal, and return to the New Farm Ferry Terminal at around 10:30am.... Thank you everyone for their support!

19.01.2022 On 14th July, our Club held the first Dinner meeting since the easing of COVID-19 restrictions. The event was held at the Brunswick Hotel and was well supported with 25 members and guests enjoying the local landmarks hospitality. The Dinner included the annual Handover formalities, where the new Board takes over for the coming year. The Meeting thanked outgoing President Tony Merrett and his Board for leaving the Club in a such healthy state during a difficult year. Club st...alwart Scott Young also thanked outgoing Guiding Lions Kevin Hedges and Debbie Williams for their two-years assistance in helping the new Club get established and familiar with the Lions way of doing things. Our 2020/2021 Board was installed by Immediate Past District Governor Donna Hedges and the incoming Board are as follows: President David Jonas Vice Presidents Anita Wyndham & Robert Lamberth Secretary Carolyn Krieger Treasurer Tania McIntyre Membership Chair Jillian Henrys Service Chair Nathan Turville Marketing & Communication Chair Matthew Poon We look forward to a great year ahead and will continue to provide our service to our local community.

19.01.2022 In May, we announced the arrival of our new Lion Mascot and we invited our community to name him #nametheteneriffelion After 2 months of naming, we had over 70 awesome name suggestions. And the final name (voted by the public) is Chester. For your information - Chester Street symbolically borders Teneriffe and New Farm, and is named after Francis Robert Chester-Master who owned Stratton House on Commercial Road. He was Usher of the Black Rod and Parliamentary Librarian in Qu...eenslands first parliament in 1861. We have contacted the competition winner who nominated the winning name, and will soon publish further details. Thank you to everyone who had helped and participated during the process to name your new local identity.

18.01.2022 This Sat, Chester and our Club will be hosting the Lions Sausage Sizzle and Xmas Cake Stall at Brisbane Pride Fair at New Farm Park. Come and treat yourself with a sizzle and perhaps some Xmas cakes for friends and family!! In case you are wondering, all BBQ sale proceeds will be donated to 2 Spirits. 2 Spirits is an organisation that is committed to every member of our diverse communities to feel safe, valued, represented and supported. 2 Spirits is also committed to develop...ing pathways to walk and work together in partnership with agencies to grow health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Sistergirl and Brotherboys across Queensland. 16.01.2022 National Diabetes Week runs from 12-18 July to support the emotional and mental health of people living with diabetes. To support this cause, our Club members will be recording their exercise kilometres in July to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of this disorder. Further, our Club will be hosting a friendly walk in our neighbourhood to support the event. The details are outlined below and you all are welcome to join and participate:... Date: 26 July 2020 Time: 9am meet-up and 9:15am start Location (starting point): New Farm Ferry Terminal Activity: Walk/cycling from New Farm Ferry Terminal, to Teneriffe Ferry terminal, and return to Mary Maes Bar & Kitchen (at the Powerhouse) for some drinks/food by around 10 or 10.30am.

03.01.2022 The family is a nucleus around which most communities are built. The next generations ability to thrive is closely tied to the supports of the local community. Lions and Leos have seen and felt the effects of cancer on children and their families, and continue to bring hope through tangible service and support.

03.01.2022 For the month of July, our club members recorded the number of kilometres that they walked, jogged or cycled for Lions Australia's "Lap the Map for Diabetes" project. The aim of the project is to promote healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the Diabetes epidemic in Australia by moving a combined distance that exceeds Australia's circumference (25,760 kms). Our club's total distance exercised for July was 2,180 kms! That's (approximately) equivalent to the distance from... Brisbane to Coen in Far North Queensland! Great work everyone!

02.01.2022 This year, National Diabetes Week runs from 12-18 July to support the emotional and mental health of people living with diabetes. From 13-16 July, the Story and Victoria Bridges in Brisbane will glow blue, and banners will be put up to promote the importance of the week. The focus of this year includes but not limited to the following:... Raise awareness of the mental and emotional challenges of managing diabetes; Highlight the services and support available to the diabetes community; and Draw attention to gaps in diabetes service and care. Did you know in Australia? 1.8 million Australians are living with diabetes this includes 1.3 million people who have been diagnosed and an estimated 500,000 cases of undiagnosed type 2 diabetes; Every five minutes someone is diagnosed with diabetes, which adds up to almost 300 people every day; One in four adults over the age of 25 is living with either diabetes or pre-diabetes; Diabetes is the seventh most common cause of death by disease in Australia; and Diabetes costs the Australian economy $14 billion every year. Diabetes Queensland offered a free healthy lifestyle program designed to help people who are at high risk of chronic disease get their health back on track.
