22.01.2022 Message from Mark Handley Brisbane International Tournament Director Brisbane Tennis to return in 2022... To our valued fans, As you are all too aware, 2020 has been a year of challenges and tough decisions. Due to the many logistical challenges created by the pandemic, it has been decided that Brisbane Tennis will not be played in Queensland this summer. This tough decision has been made because of the restrictions in every State and Territory which make it impossible for the players to prepare properly for the first Grand Slam of the year, and for us to run our event in a safe way for the Queensland community. Fortunately, we will still have an Australian Summer of Tennis with the Australian Open and lead in events to be played in Victoria. We understand this is disappointing news, particularly for our dedicated fans, the Brisbane Tennis family. We hope however, like us, you are energised by the fact the Australian Open will go ahead as planned and the world's best players will start 2021 in Australia. We will continue to update you on how you can enjoy the summer of tennis from Queensland and how you can experience the live action from the Australian Open, should the future allow for our fans to head to Victoria in January. Rest assured our team will be working harder than ever on our events as they make a much anticipated return in 2022. Sincerely, Mark Handley Brisbane International Tournament Director | ATP Cup General Manager

04.01.2022 Tennis players are generally a funny breed- universally they will happily play in scorching heat or in freezing cold temperatures, but give them a windy day and... no-one’s happy. The wind can turn what feels like a winning shot off the racquet into a complete blunder, and no one is immune to its power. Such were the conditions for many of the Euroa Lawn teams playing in Round Two of the Benalla and District Tennis Association competition on Saturday. Our Section One team took to the court for their first hit of the season after having a bye the previous week. Coming up against the young Avenel Red team, who were keen to celebrate the 18th birthday of team member Lachie Robinson with a win, ultimately it was Longwood Lawn who were victorious by one, solitary game at the completion of play. The standout player for the afternoon was a totally focussed, completely driven Dav Mackrell who was the only person from both teams to win his three sets. In Section Two, opposing Lawn teams battled it out for the 4 points. Gooram and Euroa had a very even day of play, sharing wins for the entire afternoon. At the end of the day, it was Euroa who won by 7 games with Chris Ellis winning her three sets for Gooram- no doubt spurred on by her sister Judy’s efforts last week. Young Caid Miller also won his three sets for Euroa, and with youth on his side, will only continue to improve with the harder hitting each week. Ahh, to be young again Moglonemby made their way up the Hume Highway to take on Benalla on their home courts. Marlene Hanrahan played strong, consistent tennis, winning two sets and losing her third set in a nail-biting tie-breaker. Benalla’s home ground advantage paying dividends as they snatched a narrow 5 game victory. Longwood Lawn travelled up to Strathbogie in the other Section Two match, and made their way back down the hill minus the four points. Whilst the Lawn ladies were very successful, winning all three sets, things were not as positive for the Longwood men. Thankfully the father/daughter combination of Rod and Madi Andrews finished the day on a high, winning their mixed set emphatically, and showing no sign at all of the tensions that can sometimes creep into games when playing with a family member. It was a win to Strathbogie by 8 games. In Section 3 it was Avenel’s turn to take on the form team of the first week, Euroa. It appears that the Euroa team still remain the ones to beat, dropping only one set and 25 games for the day. Caroline McKellar showed absolutely no side effects after a week of watching the Spring Carnival, losing only 5 games for the entire day. The final match for Euroa Lawn’s teams was between Longwood Lawn and Benalla Gardens. The Lawn team is a very young team, with 5 of the 6 players yesterday under the age 16. With John Anderson being the one player just over the age of 16, it was up to him to provide the court smarts, while the rest of his team provided the enthusiasm and leg speed. Despite losing, the Longwood Lawn team will be all the better for the experience, and will be adding to their bag of tricks each week as they come up against stronger opposition. Just a reminder to all Lawn players, that the synthetic courts are always open, and the Lawn courts can usually be opened, for those who want to further refine their games with some practise. As international coach and speaker Frank Giampaolo once said Spectacular performances are preceded by spectacular preparation. Let’s aim for some spectacular performances next week. See more

03.01.2022 SENIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS UPDATE In consultation with tournament stakeholders, the decision has been taken that the ITF Seniors (50-55-60) World Team & Indivi...dual Championships will not be held as scheduled in Boca Raton & Palm Beach Gardens, USA in April-May 2021. Due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, at this time it is not possible to provide a satisfactory degree of certainty that a suitable environment for staging the event could be provided for all participants and the local community. The safety of everyone involved with the tournament remains our priority. The Seniors World Championships are one of the highlights of the ITF Seniors calendar and our efforts will now be focused on securing an alternative for hosting the event in 2021. The ITF Seniors Committee will review the matter in the coming weeks and further information will be provided in due course. The Young Seniors World Team & Individual Championships remains scheduled to take place in Umag, Croatia from 12-25 September 2021, as well as the ITF Super-Seniors World Team & Individual Championships which is scheduled to take place in Mallorca, Spain from 10-23 October 2021.
