24.01.2022 Don't forget our Market on the February 6th. Our market will coincide with the Tenterfield Show so why not make a day of it. Looking forward to seeing you at both venues! Also mark on your calendars the 27th March for our "Oracles of the Bush" Markets. We are lucky to be having two Bush Poets to entertain you while you pick up a few bargains!

19.01.2022 I had the privilege of joining the volunteer staff at Tenterfield Railway Museum for their regular meeting. Approximately 26 were present with 8 members in the ...OBE category. These people do such a fantastic job, using the skills gained over a lifetime of work to benefit their community. Young people, if you’d like to learn some of those skills which are fast becoming a thing of the past, please consider coming along to see if you’d like to give a hand See more

12.01.2022 Good evening everyone. I hope all is well with you and your families. Life is certainly full of challenges now, but here is hoping we can all get through it with a smile on our faces. It has been quite busy at the Museum these past weeks. The recent school holidays in both Qld and NSW has seen a large amount of families through our door as well as tourists from around the area. Our members have also been busy with several projects. Work on the Dogbox continues with repair a...nd restoration work on a couple of doors almost finished, as well as restoration to one section of the tin ceiling. This work is being done by a small group who are devoting their time to this project and the work and their commitment is commendable. One walkway across the tracks has been laid with bitumen and we are now waiting for more tar to cover the remaining walkway. Wear and tear and the occasional hailstorm have caused some paint flaking off the exterior of the Workshop Van and MHG 11782. A dedicated painting crew is rectifying the problem and will slowly work along the tracks wielding paint brushes and such until all our rolling stock is gleaming. Not quite sure we mentioned this to them when they put their hands up to volunteer! One of our members has taken on the task of beautifying the small park we have at the southern end of the platform. New gardens around the trees and a planting of pansies will give a great display during spring and summer. Our MHO Passenger Brake Van, that we acquired in 1997, has been used to display various pieces of rail and local history. Now we are planning a new look, with one small area dedicated to the Postal side of the working railway. On Saturday, 24th June 1920, the first air mail service flight from Lismore to Tenterfield via Casino, took place. This endeavour was sanctioned by the Postmaster-General of that time. We hope to allocate an area in the MHO to display this important part of our history. The rest of MHO will display various themes as well as the resident horse/hand Fire Hose Carriage. Until next time stay safe. See more

12.01.2022 Sadly we have to say goodbye to one of our wonderful volunteers. We send our sincerest condolences to Audley's family. RIP Audley.

11.01.2022 We had a great Spring Market yesterday. Lots of our regular stall holders as well as a few new ones made it a fun day. Weather was perfect and a good mix of visitors, locals and volunteers kept our Sausage Sizzle "Chefs" and Moccona "Barista" very busy. Bonus! We managed to erect out two new marquees in record time! Even this little fellow was excited to be there!

10.01.2022 Good afternoon all. Our Markets last Saturday were a great success. Lots of new stalls with interesting items for sale enticing a good amount of people through the gates to sample what was on offer. Looking forward to our Xmas Market which we hope will be just as successful. Our volunteers are working hard at sprucing up our rolling stock. The M.H.G. Goods and Cattle Train Brake Van has been given a coat of the preservative as well as a new paint job on the roof. The Oil Tank... Wagon Rusty, also had a makeover. Painting the interior of the MHO is well under way and when finished we hope to recreate a mail section in the rear of the carriage. Another group of volunteers have been replacing the fence along the southern side of the Station. Having a few retired farmers does have advantages when a new fence is called for. Now that has finished, they are moving on to the northern side to build a new fence to stop unauthorised access onto the Station Precinct. Work on the CX Composite Car {Dog Box} is continuing with the pressed tin ceiling being removed from the first-class section ready for repair work to begin. The group assigned to Dog Box have a big job ahead of them but do not seemed to be fazed by the enormity of it. We have a new recruit to our security team and are also looking forward to some new little members. Our garden Gurus have got the place looking spectacular and with more rain predicted, the gardens and lawn will flourish. There has been talk of placing more seating around the grounds for our visitors to sit and admire our Station. Let us hope this eventuates! Good news with the borders slowly opening. Stay safe everyone and enjoy catching up with family and friends. See more

09.01.2022 "No! I don't need any help writing my posts! The computer has spell check! " When Security has to check up on what one is doing it makes it a bigger task!

08.01.2022 Hi everyone. Well, what a flurry of activity there was at the Tenterfield Railway Station Museum today. I had trouble keeping up with all the volunteers. We have been blessed with the arrival of three new members who have thrown themselves into the thick of it. Our Gardening Gurus have turned the old Harold Park area into a magical space, and with a few more tweaks it will be simply perfect. A special space to reminisce of olden times. Two of our new members, husband, an...d wife, have chosen to tidy and organise the workshop area as well as paint the interior of MHO, the former being a monumental task! The other recruit has thrown himself in the restoration of the Dogbox, which is coming along slowly mainly due to the care the members are taking to bring her back to her former glory. Paint brushes are flying over many exhibits and one of our members is making his sole task to eradicate the large number of spiders who are producing lace curtains on the buildings as well as rolling stock! We are lucky to have a member who has had vast signwriting experience, which he has combined, with his programme and equipment, to produce up to date signage on rolling stock and displays. And as if that is not enough a small gang is replacing the fence along the south eastern side or the track. During these past months we have had an influx of visitors through our doors. We have welcomed singles, couples, families and most importantly, fur babies, into our Museum. None of the people who turn up here every day are paid. They are all volunteers who maintain the museum, man the doors or cope with the myriad of paperwork that is required to keep the doors open. We have kept the admission price to a minimum and do not charge locals who visit. The admission helps pay for the tools and equipment we need to maintain our exhibits and our precinct. We use it to buy new rolling stock as well as pay all the bills required for running such a business. Electricity is not cheap nowadays and look at the price of paint! The volunteers here at the Museum are a wonderful group. They are of different ages, different upbringings, different educations, but they are family and it is this family that keeps the doors open to the Tenterfield Railway Station Museum. So please come and visit us. See what we do and enjoy our little place of history. Happy travels and stay safe. See more

05.01.2022 Markets this Saturday.

03.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone. It is a beautiful day here, in Tenterfield, with Spring bringing warmer days but keeping cooler nights. We had a good turnout of volunteers this morning. Twenty-three, not so young but still, eager souls turned up to continue with the various projects we have. First on the list was to try out a product that was kindly donated to the museum to control corrosion. Tilly (Emu Gravel No.1), our Saddle Tank Locomotive 2289, received a coating which brough...t her up like new! She has been part of our display since 8th June 2011, when we obtained her on loan from the NSW Rail Transport Museum. Built in Pennsylvania, USA, by the Vulcan Iron Works in 1912, she was one of a pair purchased by the Sydney Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Board for use on a reservoir construction project at Potts Hill. In 1921, Emu Gravel No.1 was sold to Emu and Prospect Gravel Company for use at Toongabbie and from 1924 at their Emu Plains gravel pits. In 1962, she was displaced and purchased by the Steam, Tram and Light Railway Society and moved to Parramatta Park. Later No.1 was moved to Enfield roundhouse and in 1975 relocated to Thirlmere. Around 1984, No.1. was placed on a special plinth in the Thirlmere Museum forecourt. In 2009 the Thirlmere site was redeveloped, and No. 1 was moved to make way for the new entrance. Two years later we welcomed No.1, affectionally renamed Tilly, to Tenterfield. While Tilly was getting extra attention, our master painters were attending to MHG 117823, and those doing a great job on the Dogbox were hard at work. Armed with a spray gun, one of our members was waging a one-man war on all members of the arachnid family! In other words, quite a busy morning. And a few good laughs were had when we put the cover on our new marquee. Will be interesting to see how long it takes us to erect two on Saturday morning before the Markets open. Keep safe everyone and for those who are travelling around the area, please drop in and say hullo. Cheers ‘til next time. See more

03.01.2022 Afternoon all. Christmas is creeping closer and closer so this is just a friendly reminder of our Christmas Markets on the 5th December. We have had so many new stall holders booking in, selling everything from fur baby accessories to nail care. So along with our regulars who are always managing to cater to everyone's needs, this Market will be our best ever. So come and join us. Wear something festive and enjoy the day. Don't forget we will be extending our hours to 2 pm. See you at the Railway Museum Markets
