24.01.2022 Where are all the animals? Shared is a first hand story on how the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning treated an experienced shelter operator in the aftermath of fires that devastated the community of Mallacoota. The community LOVE their shelter, and love their wildlife. DELWPs subsequent treatment of experienced wildlife vets is also described. Below is a link to listen to other vets and experienced wildlife rescuers and how they have been treated... by the same department. With experienced and trained wildlife rescuers being blocked from the fire ground, very few animals coming in to shelters from the fires, and very few bodies being reported on the fire grounds, the question must be asked of the DELWP - where are all the animals? https://www.abc.net.au//vets-blocked-from-fire-a/11956662

21.01.2022 This morning we woke to the terrible news that Daniel Andrews has moved forward with a recreational duck shooting season this year. We are devastated. We, along with so many, have worked so hard to rescue and care for animals, through the drought and the fires. This is a slap (or a punch) in the face to everyone out there trying to save our wildlife and protect the environment.

19.01.2022 Manfred is out with another of our crew members, and shares what he is finding. No bodies, very limited living wildlife. Still no access granted by DELWP for experienced rescue crews to enter parks or forests. We are restricted with what we can do, and we know its too little too late.

18.01.2022 Today is a week since little Sephy came to the shelter. She was rescued by some lovely people after her mother was sadly killed by car strike. She's settled in well, and is coming out of her shell as a bright and curious little girl. Before we know it she will be running the place!

18.01.2022 Bracken re-shoots from the ash, and some Eucalypts shoot from the base or from epicormic buds along the trunk. But in some areas, many areas, this is the only sign of life. The sound of silence is something many crew members are finding difficult. The impact to the ecology of eastern Australia is indescribable. All we can do is keep looking for those which need help, and provide it in any way we can.

10.01.2022 Hi everyone, sorry it's been a while since we've posted an update, it's been really busy with all the animals at the shelter. We hope everyone is staying safe during these trying times, hopefully this short clip will make your day.

06.01.2022 Away from the fires, we were called to help this Swan, who has been stuck at this dam for days with an injured wing. We attended last night. With only two rescuers, and the dam bigger than first thought, the swan won that round and got to stay another night. We will attend tonight with reinforcements.

05.01.2022 Kangaroos Are Not Shoes Please support the launch of this Global Video Pulse by sharing the new short video of Olympic medalist Dotsie Bausch shaming Nike for using kangaroo skin to make shoes. #KangaroosAreNotShoes

05.01.2022 "Last week, I recognised the incredible work of Manfred Zabinskas from Five Freedoms Animal Rescue and his much-deserved OAM. Manfred is a true hero to wildlife and his shelter, which he runs with his partner Helen, is entirely self-funded. The cost of special milk formula for orphaned joeys, other food, vet bills, medications and construction of enclosures is tens of thousands of dollars every year, so I've asked the government to give a hand to wildlife shelters in this year's state budget."

03.01.2022 Little Loui would like to thank the amazing crafters out there for the donation of joey bags and pouches to Pet Stays Directory, which have ended up here at Terra Mater along with some other medical supplies. This bag is a bit big, but he will grow into it soon.

02.01.2022 Yesterday I sent a letter to the Environment Minister pleading for her to intervene and stop kangaroo killing at a housing estate in Lilydale. I am sorry to sha...re with you that I have not received a response, but the Department has issued a statement claiming they are 'aware of community concerns around the permit, however it is satisfied that the authorisation is necessary for the site'. I am also sorry to share with you that volunteers on the ground have confirmed some of the kangaroos have joeys in pouch and at foot. If the killing goes ahead, it will be completely legal for them to be clubbed over the head. This is absolutely devastating. There are qualified wildlife professionals who are ready to relocate this small mob. All it requires is the stroke of a pen from the Victorian Government. Killing is now imminent and could start as soon as this evening. I will work around the clock today to do anything I can to stop it.

02.01.2022 We need your help to keep the crew out helping our wildlife. https://chuffed.org//help-the-terra-mater-wildlife-rescue-
