25.01.2022 Tonight I am grateful and heartbroken in equal measure. Our home has been miraculously spared. Our power grid, our water supply, our farm infrastructure and our soon to be finished accommodation units are all unscathed. Not a strand of wool on our beloved sheep has been singed. They greeted me happily as I arrived back at the farm today. I am so eternally grateful not to be homeless right now. Immeasurably grateful also that lives have been preserved. But all around us... is devastation. Most of our neighbours in every direction have not been so lucky. Too many have lost everything. Homes have been destroyed, belongings vapourised, businesses rent. Years of hard work turned to ash in a matter of minutes. Those who stayed are traumatised by the experience. There was no defence. Our beloved bush has gone. In places nothing remains but charred sentinels that used to be trees. The forest is naked, stripped of her beauty. Defiled. Much of her continues to burn. A million embers glow on the mountains and in the gullies all around my home. Blinking as though on a Christmas tree. The fire does not want to leave us yet. But it is calm now. And in this calm my heart is torn by each wrenching crash of trees as they relinquish their hold on the earth. The pain is visceral. The devastation is absolute. Nothing prepared me for this. And yet we are safe. All of us. And what is gone will be restored in time. We have much to be grateful for. Thank you to those who battled tirelessly to save our Valley. No amount of preparation or skill or benevolent intent could have stopped that violent hell storm. Thank you to the Kangaroo Valley RFS and the others from near and far that put their lives on the line this weekend. You are legends, every one. And thank you to our wonderful community for holding on tight and lifting us up. And for letting your love be a blanket to our pain. Weve got this.

24.01.2022 Weve decided to call this lamb bucket head.

24.01.2022 Jayden has spent all day getting ready for the Kangaroo Valley Farmers Market tomorrow. Hes turned some oversized zucchinis into these mind blowing triple chocolate zucchini cupcakes. Come on down tomorrow and help kick-start his new business.

24.01.2022 Nice surprise to see one of our ewes give birth to triplets.

23.01.2022 Harvest Update - December 17 Sometimes life is just too hectic. So many responsibilities and expectations. So many chores to do and projects to finish. So many people to please, pay or provide for. So many things to remember and so many zucchinis to pick. Then you add in Christmas. No wonder people go crazy this time of year. I had thought that moving to the country and becoming a farmer would make our lives simpler, calmer and less hectic. Oh boy, was I wrong. I may ...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Harvest Update - 7th August 2018 At the risk of adding to the depressing saturation of drought coverage in the media, Im going to add my two cents worth. I promise Ill only do it once, but this is going to be a lengthy newsletter, so buckle up... Congratulations Kangaroo Valley, weve just broken a record. The last 12 months to 30th June have officially been the driest on record. Ever. Well at least since the Bureau began counting back in 1914. I doubt theres anyone s...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Thank you Friendly Inn Kangaroo Valley for giving small scale local farmers a go! Head in to the Friendly Inn and ask for the local grass fed T-bone from Target Creek farm and enjoy ethically raised mince in your beef nachos. Thumbs up for supporting local producers!

20.01.2022 Due to a lack of staff and a lack of energy Terrewah Farm will not be continuing with the pop up stall at the front of the pub in February. You can however put in an order for some delicious local produce by going to www.openfoodnetwork.org.au/terrewah-farm/shop. We deliver twice weekly into town (3-3:30pm Monday and Thursday) at the main town car park near the nursery. Fresh, seasonal, organic produce, grown right here in Kangaroo Valley. What are you waiting for?? The shop is open now.

19.01.2022 So sad when mum has twins but rejects one.

17.01.2022 As part of our determination to share knowledge and foster community resilience, we have started up an inspiration library at Terrewah Farm, open every Friday between 9am and 4pm in conjunction with our local produce store. Here you can borrow books and magazines on growing food, home scale gardening, regenerative agriculture, ecology, farming on a small scale, living sustainably, bush tucker, native perennials, cooking and more. Well keep adding to the library as we find books that inspire us. We hope they can inspire you too.

16.01.2022 Our new (interim) farm gate shop is now open! Come on in every Friday from 9am-4pm and snap up some locally grown, chemical free produce. Thanks to all the locals who have already done their shopping with us this morning.

14.01.2022 Sadly we have gotten to that point where we have to let our beloved cows go. We're no longer able to keep buying feed for them in the hope that things will improve. We should have parted with them long ago but I was too attached. If you know of anyone who would like a pure bred bred black Dexter cow (potential house cow) or two or three, please let me know. Eve is 7 years old and the matriarch of our tiny herd. She has the frame of a milker and is a wonderful mother prod...ucing excellent calves. She has been trial milked by hand (untethered in the paddock with a biscuit of hay) so with patience and training I believe she could be a good home milker. Truffle her daughter (5 years old) is a beautiful beefy black Dexter, used to hand feeding and partial to carrots and potatoes. She has calved once. Her daughter Georgina is now 3 years old and never bred. She is slight like her grandmother and bottom of the hierarchy but also used to being hand fed, will come to a call and has never had a sick day in her life. We would love our girls to go to a good home where they will have the company of animals and humans. They have lots of breeding left in them and the potential for high quality milk for the home. If you have some grass and can see a lovely bovine friend in your future please give me a call. I really need to rehome my girls immediately. See more

11.01.2022 The markets may have been called off but we are warm and snug in the pub marquee. Come on down and fill up on local produce.

09.01.2022 Unfortunately due to the forecast cold and wet weather we have decided to cancel the bush regeneration talk scheduled for tomorrow morning at Terrewah Farm. Farmers are some of the most resourceful and adaptive people in the world. We need them now more than ever.
