15.01.2022 During the Covid crisis, this is probably more fitting now than ever! We all have thoughts that go through our head that stress us out, thoughts we go over in our heads over and over again that eat us up inside. Often it is things you may not want to discuss or feel that nobody would understand, or perhaps you have discussed it and found no solace. Over the years I have found this exercise to be very useful; it was taught to me when I my depression was at its worst, by... my counselor and I have found it extremely useful. I have recommended to many clients that have consulted with me that have also found it very useful. So I share it now with you too. Grab a roll of toilet paper and write on it everything that is eating you up inside. Be brutally honest; nobody will ever be able to read it, not ever! Write as much as you can about how you are feeling, get it all off your chest. Keep writing until you have totally emptied it all out of your thought processes. Once you are done, start flushing the scribbled toilet paper down the toilet in small lots (don’t block the toilet!). The paper will be dissolved with no chance of anyone reading your thoughts and you will have released all that angst you have had bottled up inside. And flushing it down the toilet is an excellent metaphor that may bring you some peace and quiet. Try it for yourself. Another great idea is if someone has hurt you in any way and you need closure or you need to have your say and you feel you have no voice, write to that person on toilet paper. Write to them as though you are going to give them the letter. Tell them everything you want to say; how they hurt you, how you feel, everything. Then flush it. 04.01.2022 FAT LOSS IS LIKE A TRAFFIC JAM Do you find that there are times you eat super clean, train like an athlete, focus on managing stress, sleep and all the other factors of fat loss, and that weight simply just does not budge? You are not alone. This happens to everyone. There are times, for various reasons, your body will plateau. But this is not the time to quit; this is the time to keep checking all the boxes. If you quit at this point you are guaranteeing that you won’t ...succeed. If you keep pushing, your progress will kick off again, eventually. It’s like being stuck in a traffic jam. When you are driving somewhere the road is not always clear of traffic and obstruction. Sometimes you get stuck in traffic. Do you get out of the car and walk home, or do you sit there and wait for the cars to start moving again? Sometimes there are road works. In fact, often there are road works. Do you get of the car and go home, or do you sit through all the ‘slow downs’, traffic, ‘stop’ etc? If you went home, you would never get to your destination. Sometimes there are even detours. So common with fat loss progress. Sometimes you must change courses. Again, it does not mean you turn around and go home. It means you follow the detour signs and take a new route to your destination. You follow the signs, you follow the instructions of lights, traffic management, sometimes police traffic controllers etc. Fat loss is the same. Sometimes you need to just keep doing what you are doing and wait it out (traffic jam), other times you need to trust in your coach and change strategies (detour signs). Patience and consistency is what will get you there in the end. So, don’t give up when things get tough, or plateau. Slow down sure, but do not stop. If you get out and go home, you will never reach your destination. I have been a member of different gyms, tried the no carb diet and at one point I had a personal trainer I bumped into some people I knew today and we were talking about health as they noticed I had dropped a little weight.
