24.01.2022 Your arms can go past your ears he assured me... so I pull my head forward to bring my ears to my arms Because thats what we do right??! This is me with Dr NC, a senior yoga therapist and Therapist Trainer. Pic taken in Chennai 18 months ago. I didnt remember a time when there wasnt atleast a dull ache in my upper back, neck and shoulders. Only weeks later, after doing the practice he gave me my upper back had movement, my arms could move past my ears, a weight fel...t like it had lifted from my shoulders, residual tension had eased and I felt a freedom I had never experienced before. Over the years my yoga therapy practices have changed my life. Specific practices designed to hit the target without fluffing around. Short, concise, focused, potent and precisely what I needed at the time to move forward. I am now in my final months of Yoga Therapy training. 23.01.2022 Ready for a Tuesday! 8 students arriving soon for 9am General yoga in the studio. Then Ill see my remote students online for Move & Meditate at 10:30am. A Private session after lunch then I hand over to Leigh who will lead General Yoga at 6:15pm while I help the Northstar U11 girls soccer team learn to stretch, breath and focus! 22.01.2022 Thursday is Kids Yoga and Pre-Teens yoga at Relax! Today we focus on our best qualities, cultivating them within us and letting them spiral outwards! Today is the last class of our interrupted Term 1 program and I cant wait to be with the kids watching them grow, play and learn. Kids Yoga (5-8s) 3:45pm Pre-teens Yoga (9-12s) 4:45pm... 20.01.2022 I dont remember ever having swung from a rope and dropped into water before. If youve known me for a long time you may think I have. I have plenty of memories of watching others do it.... Of thinking it looks like a-lot of fun. And of quietly opting out. My yoga practice has taken me from being cautious and quietly scared of many things to confidently stepping up and joining in the fun. So how did it go? Well, I was very concerned about the shallow rock that I had to swing over in order to safely land in the deep water. I over compensated, and somehow from where I am in this pic I landed on my back with my legs in the air. The water was breathtakingly cold. And when I re-emerged all spectators were laughing at me... including people I didnt even know. In the past Id have been devastated by that laughter, and by a perception of failure. But today I was entirely unperturbed. That too is a result of my yoga practice. I dont live to do yoga, I do yoga to live.... And I teach yoga so that you can live too. 14.01.2022 How lucky am I to have spent the day on the Great Barrier Reef with my family! I always like to take a little break during school holidays to step back and re-charge. Sometimes thats teaching less classes, sometimes its being away completely. Leigh is on holidays with her family also. Im so grateful to Belinda who is covering classes and looking after the studio while Im away and Caroline and Jane who are still teaching their classes right through. After completing her science degree with honours in Biochemistry she spent her early adult years (from 2000 2010) at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research contributing to the scientific understanding of how our bodies work. This training and experience now influences her approach to yoga where she is constantly researching the yoga knowledge base, testing theory and experimenting to find the best approach for each individual student.... 11.01.2022 Ive never really been one to express myself using a lot of words. Never wanted to stand out in front of the crowd and say things that seek the approval of others. Never sought to be thought of as cool or anything other than just me. Instead I have spent my life quietly watching. Watching what people say, what they do, how they interact. Observing subtle indicators of motivators, and the patterns of behaviour that many humans seem to follow. ... Fascinating. And rather than talking for the sake of talking I like to sit quietly and express myself through mere presence, movement, gesture, facial expression. This way I am better able to see and hear and conduct myself in a peaceful way. I know, I get up in front of class and happily talk for an hour! I really can blabber on when you get me going on a topic that lights me up, and I can hold my own when engaged in conversation. It is not that I cannot or will not use my voice. But I am entirely reluctant to add to the noise. And right now, there is so much noise that calls for more time spent sitting, watching, listening. Cultivating peace through quiet. Join me.

09.01.2022 As the sun rises on this 6th international day of yoga I invite you to share in my chanting practice. Invocation to lord Patanjali, followed by Patanjalis Yoga Sutra. Chapter 1: Samadipadaha Chapter 2: Sadhanapadaha and the first 3 Sutras of chapter 3 (to take us to the end of the 8 limbs).... 06.01.2022 At Pre-Teens Yoga last Thursday I asked the kids to lie down and fill their screen of imagination with white. Then to draw on that white screen a rectangle, then a triangle, then a circle, then a tree. To hold the picture they had drawn in their minds eye noticing all the details. They then opened their eyes and put the picture from their imagination onto paper. Would you expect that they all drew the same thing? 8 children. 8 completely different pictures. All of ...them having diligently followed the same instructions. All pictures were a perfect representation of what they saw as they listened to the instructions. No 1 picture right another wrong not even one picture better than another. Consider this in life right now. We all hear the same thing.... But we interpret it differently, See it differetnly, Express it differently. And to some extend we mould it to become what we need it to be. Not because somebody is right and somebody is wrong, but because we are all unique individuals having gathered a lifetime of experiences which guide how we see the world. When next someone is interpreting information differently to how you are. Exhale, exercise patience, examine another perspective. 02.01.2022 We often think of connection achieved through contact and in past years of teaching Kids Yoga weve used contact in partner and group yoga poses and games ALOT to build a strong connection between kids. This Term yoga has been completely socially distanced, so weve had to be more creative! Weve learned that connection is important, in fact in some way or another were all connected all the time. And in a socially distanced world its important to enhance that connection... through eye contact, active listening, paitence, respect and shared experience. 01.01.2022 This thing happened. And it was big, really big. The world as we knew it stopped. We had to deal with alot of CHANGE and quickly adjust. So the natural response is to batten down the hatches. Grab what you can, hold it, take shelter, stay low to the ground and wait for storm of change to ease up.... But theres little joy in such a survival mode. Its not healthy to stay there too long. So have faith now, things are different but you can do different YOU CAN DO DIFFRENT, you have an incredible capacity to adapt and as long as you know that, you can do anything with what youve got. You can dream again. Give yourself permission to venture out of your shelter, come out of your survival mode.
