22.01.2022 IRON ORE MINERS "MAKING HAY" WITH HIGH PRICES AND DEMAND More than 48 million tonnes of iron ore was exported through the port of Port Hedland last month, up 4 ...per cent from May last year. In todays price and Australian dollar terms, thats just under $7b exported from Port Hedland in one month. Its been driven by demand from China, and COVID-19 causing supply issues in the other major iron ore producing country; Brazil. ANZ senior commodity strategist, Daniel Hynes, said the Aussie miners like Rio Tinto, FMG and BHP were "making hay while the sun shines", while the price and demand was high. "Certainly the WA economy will be quite grateful ... just at a time when it needs as much support from other sectors as the economy recovers from the lockdown measures," he said. Mr Hynes expects Port Hedlands throughput will continue to break records this year as Chinas demand continues to grow.

16.01.2022 IRON ORE PRICES EXPECTED TO FALL FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR Iron ore has been touted as Australias good news story ... but do not get too comfortable with that, ...prices are predicted to drop down to about $US80 per tonne in the coming months. That is according to an industry analyst, who said incoming increased international supply will depress prices. Recently, iron ore has been trading above $US100 per tonne throughout June, up 30 per cent on Aprils lows. However, on Monday it had a significant fall, dropping by almost $5. While it recovered, CRUs lead iron ore analyst Andrew Gadd said in the long-term prices would fall. While the market is still concerned about the risk of coronavirus interrupting iron ore supply, the shipments from mainstream suppliers has actually been really strong in June, Mr Gadd said. Brazil has also picked up its shipping rate noticeably after restarting operations at one of their mining hubs in the south of the country. Even more impressive has been Australias performance. Mr Gadd said with strong a supply, and a weak demand outside of China, port stocks have started to uptick. Our view for the rest of the year is that prices will fall," Mr Gadd said. It will be a gradual move over the coming months. We think prices have been elevated above the fundamental levels. Essentially there has been a price premium in the market and thats because of supply risk, particularly in Brazil and we think through to the end of the year those risks will dissipate.

16.01.2022 Port Hedland COVID-19 update We’re committed to communicating with you regularly on the evolving situation in Port Hedland. It remains important that you ...have access to the facts and understand there is no risk to you or your community. Recent developments: As you’re already aware, two of the 12 seafarers in hotel quarantine are COVID positive. Testing has now been performed on the remaining 10 and eight have returned a positive result. That brings the total number of COVID cases stemming from the vessel to 17 seven on board and 10 in hotel quarantine. They do not require hospitalisation and are not a risk to the community. There has been lots of talk about next steps and swapping the crew out. This is complicated and there are lots of moving parts. Whatever we do in that space will be guided by what is in the best interest of the seafarers and with community safety front of mind. Rest assured every precaution is in place and we have the world leading expert in outbreak vessel management on-the-ground managing the situation. 16.01.2022 HEDLAND BUYBACK DETAILS UNVEILED The WA Government has unveiled details of the $200 million industry-funded buy-back for Port Hedlands dust affected West... End, although the final funding arrangements are yet to be settled. It will be administered by the Pilbara Ports Authority, with a levy arrangement likely, and the properties will become State Government property. Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan accepted the deal offered wouldnt suit everyone but says the announcement offers some certainty for the West Ends 400 home owners. "I think that a very strong percentage of these are residential properties and we would expect a fairly high percentage of those to take advantage of this scheme," she says. Residential property owners will be offered a premium of 35 per cent on top of the indexed value of their property as at August 6 last year, when the scheme was first proposed. There will also be up to $20,000 for verifiable transaction costs. Many owners have lobbied for an "unaffected value" sale price. Minister MacTiernan said this was not an option, because the history of the town over the past 60 to 70 years has been closely linked with industry.
