25.01.2022 Its been a crazy arvo of Shingleback calls today. These two calls stood out , the first bobby , a lovely guy from Kallaroo called to ask if i could help with a bobby after hed found her out the front and he was concerned his dogs had a unpleasant encounter with him . This bobtail will be heading off into the care of Darling Range Wildlife Shelter WA for assessment, treatment and rehab. The 2nd bobby was from a gorgeous family in Padbury , who are renovating and came across ...this second bobby covered in ticks trapped down their side and their shed, and easy to retrieve except he left a defensive poo and wee go on me to thank us for our efforts helping it out . Their beautiful daughter despite being a bit afraid of her , decided to name it Ayla, and after a little education we headed home for a quick detick (22 ticks ) and drink and this well conditioned animal was released a few streets away in local bush . 25.01.2022 When you’re waiting to see the vet and you wanna check out the other animals. This little lady had old burns, evidence of old dog bite wounds , and a old healing jaw fracture and blinded eye from being hit by a car when she was called in. Can never get over how tough they are Big thanks to the team at Ocean Keys Vet for always treating any injured reptiles we find and doing vet checks when needed , we are truly grateful for your help .

20.01.2022 Bobtail family Update 2 more bobtails were located yesterday And Grand pappy bobtail was rescued this time and was placed with Grand nanna bobtail and they were very happy about it . One more male is still MIA but we will find him. This family was released on a clients property who reached out . She has a ten acres that borders the bush on the coast and noticed she has barely any bobtails around and offered her place as its thick in cover, loads of snails on offer and no ...dogs to pester them . Couldnt ask for a better release site to be able to keep this healthy group together. Photo explanation: We normally only keep 2-3 together at a time, otherwise its too uncomfortable for these thick set lizards

20.01.2022 This thick 5 foot Dugite or Pseudonaja affinis, was seen in a large storage shed on a property owned by the mum of one of my close nursing colleagues, we work together at Perth’s Childrens Hospital NICU when im not catching snakes . Cath called me and said theres a snake in my mums shed , are you able to come ? No hesitations and we arrived in 14 minutes . This lovely beauty was curled up under a compressor and as soon as I touched her with the hook she took off for a gap... and i was able to get my hand in under her and above her tail and with my hook lift her out before she reached the gap. Not once in our encounter did she show any defensive behaviour, she was just trying to find anything to hide in to get away from me . Some education and Catherine McCracken’s mum informed me she has another dark brown beautiful snake hanging around and a mature monitor on her property who lays eggs and eats her eggs, so we could be heading there soon for a return visit . Love being able to help friends out and it was such a pleasure watching this smart big snake take off back into the bush in Marginup .

19.01.2022 Species : Pseudonaja affinis Common name : Dugite Location: Mindarie I got a call from a lovely lady who’d seen my page and she asked if i could attend her brother’s property in Mindarie. ... I headed into the culdesac and Mark the homeowner was out the front waiting for me. He’d been planning to clean up his garden and move a trailer out for an event he was having when he’d seen a dark shape as he was about to exit his front door. He’d tried to keep eyes on it from his window but the snake had disappeared around the side . I checked the front garden, when i noticed a gap under the colourbond fence leading into his backyard . I walked round the back and this beautiful cream headed individual was basking itself on his fake lawn. As soon as it saw me, it headed straight under the bbq and darted backwards and forth. I stuck my bag underneath, scooped the snake forward with my hook over the bag and scooped him in up using the bottom of bbq to lock him in as i lifted him up and out much to the relief of Mark’s neighbour who was standing bravely on her side of the fence with a broom letting me know she really hoped I’d caught it . A reassuring I’ve bagged it and the neighbour and Mark let out a hoot of relief Mark’s sister arrived and I was able to show them and their neighbours the culprit safely and give some education and reassurance . Thank you to Mark and his sister for the cash donation , honestly the nicest people.

18.01.2022 Common Name : Dugite Species Name : Pseudonaja affinis This little cutey was spotted by an employee hiding behind some liquid drums against a outer wall in the kennel area. When i pulled the drum back , i could see that he was hunting a baby motorbike frog just above him sitting on one of the drums. ... Very easy catch and after a chat with the staff about snake safety, we headed down the road to Lake Adams for release in to the reserve . Thanks to Reece and the crew at West Coast Pet Care Centre for their donation.

17.01.2022 This juvenile Dugite got himself into the quail aviary of Deena & Russ in Wanneroo . He made himself a easy quick catch hiding in a pipe they had blocked off with bricks. I emptied the whole contents into my bag and then fished him out once he was captured for a quick pic as he had a mice meal on board so i dont like handling them in case they regurgitate their meal theyve worked so hard for, but i needed to empty my bag of about 2kg of sand . His head and pattern colouring made him a striking little snake with the light head and black neck band . Thanks to Tania Cowley at Thornlie Reptile Removals for the recommendation to the client to contact me .

16.01.2022 Species: Morelia spilota imbricata Common Name: South West Carpet Python Location : Dalkeith I received a call from a fellow mate relocator Gary Reid , a gardener friend of his had a client with a black and white snake in their garage and he asked asked if I could help him out with a favour ..... well you dont get Carpet Pythons on the river often, so i was intrigued. ... I entered the undergarage and was told it was on the top shelf of the racks. I climbed up and reached behind a large umbrella and lifted the annoyed individual out much to all our surprise . He gave me quite a few kitten bites on the way down but I understand his distress , Im a potential predator holding him in his snake mind. A few quick pics and the family told me they had been camping in Dwellingup the week before and this cranky Carpet may be a wild caught stow away that might have come home in their gear . Was so grateful to the Landscaping company for the Bush Chooks Will keep you posted on what eventuates for this amazing looking snake and whether hes a missing pet or whether he will be released, DBCA have already been contacted . Thanks Gaz man for this unusual call Tessa - 0409378717

15.01.2022 We had some more Shingleback’s require relocating yesterday and a few injured ones unfortunately. I was called to a job in Kallaroo where i was asked to locate a big orange boy that had reappeared from last year , the client was concerned for him after their dog got the female the previous year . While searching for the big boy , i came across one of their possible offsprings crawling along thr ground . When i lifted this poor baby up , i came across an extensive injury with... his liver and bowels hanging out of a puncture wound in his abdomen, dried out and covered in sand . My heart sank seeing how painful it was for thr little guy so I organised him to be seen by Dr Adrian and Dr Ann at Ocean Keys Vet Hospital immediately , but they unfortunately had to make the call to euthanise because of the extensive internal damage . I was then given another bobby to take back from Ocean Keys Vet that someone had brought in after a serious dog encounter to take to a wildlife rehabilitator. This Shingleback had serious dog bite punctures to its face , blinding one eye and causing a severe laceration . Unfortunately, the carer informed me overnight that our friend had to be euthanised as he was bleeding internally and it was best so he didnt suffer . Very sad day indeed ..... which leads me to implore to the public , please check your gardens this weekend, if you have a dog that may cause issues with reptiles , please call us to move your local bobtail to a safer address or place it in a SAFE cool area of your yard or local bushland . Thanks to all the amazing peeps calling me for animals that theyre concerned about , so great seeing people caring for our native reptiles . TESS - 0409378717

15.01.2022 Species : Varanus tristis tristis Common name : Blackheaded monitor Location : Carramar What a way to end a gorgeous busy day meeting Lance Tardrew and his gorgeous family after they had this cute interloper, sneak in from the bushland facing their property . ... Lance’s daughter looked down from the tramp and noticed his dark shape and let her dad know they had a visitor. A mate passed on my number and Miah and i headed over to check it out (my daughter LOVES Blackheaded Monitors) . This little male was still chilling and after a quick chase where he headed for the wall , i was able to grab him . A quick pic, and after a discussion with the family , this little guy was released back into the bush opposite and Lance’s son joined us for the release. One of the great things that I love about doing this type of work, is sharing the experience with kids and teaching them how amazing their local reptiles are that live around them . Thanks for the six pack Lance , so good after a long hot day .

14.01.2022 Love releasing these guys

13.01.2022 3 calls , 5 Shinglebacks in 45 minutes 1 from wanneroo 4 from padbury 3 at one house. Thanks to all the gorgeous peeps who called me today about these gorgeous lizards today . ... All had ticks removed , all got a nice feed of raw egg, premium dog food, fruit and kale and all will be released back to the bush areas adjacent to where they were found today .

13.01.2022 I think this is a record 8 bobtails at one job This evening I received a call from my good friend Tania Cowley at Thornlie Reptile Removals who had a message from a lady in Beldon who needed help . I called Bern and Gaz and was told about how their yard had a active population of 6 bobtails the last 3 years and they had just purchased a puppy and they were concerned for their safety as their puppy wasn’t showing signs of leaving them alone and they wanted them rehomed sa...fely as a group . I attended their house with my son Brody and daughter Miah and we went with the home owners on a bobby hunt . We found 7 gravid girls from 3 generations and a young male . Best way to end a busy day catching snakes and bobtails & something I’ll never forget Very grateful for the cash donation , ive let the kids split this donation after such an awesome effort hunting them out .

13.01.2022 This scar riddled dude was called in by a lovely young couple , they had a dog that was a little to interested in him and they asked if i could help move him on. Luckily for me I was in a nearby area , this old boy had old healing wounds consistent with a previous dog bite, so moving him to bushland around the corner that is forever bushland was the ideal situation for this daredevil.

13.01.2022 I caught this caramel coloured individual after the call was put up by Josiah Siboy Robertson on the local snake relocator page last night . This juvenile was seen on a road in Two Rocks and called in by a concerned local Lynnette Maxwell after her son Jayden who saw him first . I headed up with my kids and this lovely had crawled into a thick tree and as soon as he felt me on his tail he scooted but i had my other arm in there ready for him . A few friendly nips to show his... appreciation and i have to say all the locals who had been looking out for it and myself, were all a little in love with his colours . A quick education about the healthy benefits of having pythons in our local bushland and the difference between our local pythons and local venomous snakes and the locals were so happy with the experience of seeing one of their native animals up close . A quick drive back around to Yanchep National Park nearish the burnt section and we released this snake near some caves in tall thick bush , where there will hopefully be loads of bats, birds , mammals etc on offer for him to hunt for . Great way yo finish the day after catching two south west carpet pythons Release vids in comments Tessa - 0409378717

13.01.2022 Great information about Shinglebacks or bobtails in your yard this summer

11.01.2022 Got a call from RGV this morning about a dugite in a trench at the Ocean Reef Marina Development , didn’t find the dugite but really happy the boys want to work with me rounding up any reptiles they uncover alive or injured during this development . Ideally there isn’t a massive bush area free of animals to relocate all these animals to , and relocated animals from this site can also increase pressure on populations that are adjacent to the area , as more animals in an area... will cause greater competition for food and territory. There is no easy solution when infrastructure and development intersect with our native animals . We can just try our best to save the few we can and work with the companies involved with the project . Tessa - 0409378717

09.01.2022 Common name : Bardick Snake Species name : Echiopsis curta A call this evening about an orange snake sparked my interest so i headed off. ... The gentleman who called, was notified to the presence of the snake after his son saw it next to a tree near their shed , thick with leaf litter while playing . Lucas , went inside , told his dad there was a snake and then had a cry when he realised what he’d seen ..... just so brave . His dad confirmed what hed seen and then called me . As it was already dark , i knew it might be a mission , but after raking around the area i noticed a head pop up at the fenceline and bagged this little cutey before it disappeared. The boys were chuffed to see their little backyard invader and after some education about venomous snakes and a huge high 5 to Lucas for being so brave, the boys were keen to see it before i took it to be released . Thanks Lucas , Kayde & Ryder for your entertaining stories , and i hope your mum is better soon .

07.01.2022 Species : Pseudechis australis Common name : Mulga snake , King Brown snake Location : Alkimoss Got a call about a dark brown snake from the crew at Ocean 27 behind the air conditioning unit . This big slug had curled up in a wet rolled up rug that was behind the air con unit and was an easy catch . I put one end of the rolled rug into my bag and tipped him into it making an easy catch . ... On closer inspection prior to its release , i noticed this snake was mouth breathing alot and had a significant wound above it cloaca that extended right thru to its underside, scarred tissue and damaged scales . This snake is now on its way to the vets for treatment. DBCA, have been notified and we will keep you updated on what Adrian the vet decides for it .

05.01.2022 I got a call last night at 10pm from a regular client who was concerned for a snake after finding a large brown snake in his backyard after he’d gone out to bring in his dog for the night . Unfortunately when i arrived the snake was well and truly deceased , but they were still unsure if their dog had been bitten. During the night , their dog started displaying symptoms and was taken to the vets and received antivenin, and since then has had another dose.... She’s not out of the woods yet but is still fighting and i really hope she pulls thru for Davina & Ben . Before i left last night , i discussed with them about Snake Avoidance Training as a great way to help dogs learn negative or positive reactions if they push an encounter which helps them to decide not to pursue the encounter, which hopefully prevents another snake bite in future . I decided to provide some links if anyone else was interested in this type if training for their pet . I have provided different methods of training of PATS or negative reinforcement, i advise you to research the links and choose the technique suitable for you and your pet. It may seem like a cost , but its a invaluable investment when you think of what it can save. https://www.animalark.com.au/snake-avoidance-training-for-d https://www.slithersandslides.com.au/snake-avoidance-train/ https://www.animalark.com.au/snake-avoidance-training-for-d https://www.perthsanimaltrainingspecialists.com.au/escape-t

04.01.2022 Now i get alot of calls, and sometimes you receive one where the reassurance you can give and peace of mind is just as important as catching something and alot of catchers relate to this . I received a call today from Manjit Sunner in Joondalup about how she saw something in her back area room the night before when she moved her vacuum cleaner and it had slithered off behind furniture . She locked the door and spent this morning calling the council and various people just wa...nting someone to come past, as she lives with her elderly mum and was totally unnerved by what might be in there. Sarah and I pulled her furniture out and found this beautiful two toed skink . And a clutch of eggs under the carpet edge with unfertile and hatched eggs , one with a baby still inside . Manjit was so relieved, and it was great to see her relax after a long night worrying . Now some may say, its just a skink , but id like you to look at the last pic of a baby dugite hatchling, even though its early for hatchlings, it still could be a small hatchie from last season and its better to be safe than sorry and just get your place checked than confuse one with a legless lizard. Some beautiful indian food eaten , a donation and a coffee and Sarah & I was able to get home and release this little guy into bush near my house . What a pleasureable catch , even if its not venomous .

04.01.2022 Thanks Helen , Terri had a great feed and huge drink , 19 ticks removed before she was released .

02.01.2022 Amongst the madness of today’s heat and catches, I noticed that my page had hit over 2000 likes and 2000 followers . I am honestly blown away by the support I’ve received over the last 12 months from the community and all my friends since i started this page, and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be spreading my love for all things scaley . Thank you everyone , I truly appreciate all your support .

02.01.2022 This gorgeous 5 foot chonk had me in love the minute i laid eyes on her . Speckled, light faced, striking contrasted banding and speckles all the way down her form ..... one very pretty Dugite I was tagged to a job in Wanneroo by a fellow relocator Josiah Siboy Robertson who had attended the week before but was unavailable yesterday to get there . ... When i arrived to the stables i was informed that this particular snake had been around for years and that she’d alluded three catchers the previous season and Si , the week before . I started in the feed shed and cleared my way thru , checked under the big crates that the water tank was sitting on and then climbed up under the decking of the tack room and couldnt see her anywhere but i think my movement under the house stirred her , because when i walked round the back of it , i saw her move out and towards a long pipe at the back that was 4-5 metres long to escape into . I ran and managed to grab her just as the last third of her tail was disappearing into the pipe. She fought hard but by using my hook and the weight of her body against her, i was able to manoeuvre her out where she decided to really show us her displeasure and gave me two solid open mouth cracks on my boot . This snake was experienced, confident and wanted me to just let her go . On closer inspection, i could see some deep semi fresh wounds from a severe dog interaction, this old snake had deep recovering bite wounds all down her body she is booked in this morning for the vets and hopefully she will get the care she needs to get back into the bush.
