25.01.2022 Telescope mounts work with tight gear tolerances in order to perform at their best. But what if you experience terrible spikes in your guiding graph? Well, sometimes a small particle of metal can get stuck in your gear causing uncontrollable movement of your mount. Book your mount inspection with Testar so your can return to enjoy your astrophotography nights.

24.01.2022 As first post of Testar, lets begin with some photos of the first telescope that has been used to observe the universe. In the first picture there is the scope used by Galileo to observe the Moon and the planets.

24.01.2022 In July there will be a new ZWO camera: the ASI 2400 MC colour! Full frame sensor with large pixels (5.94 m) and a full well capacity of 100,000 e ! https://www.testar.com.au/products/zwo-asi-2400mc-pro-colour

23.01.2022 Telescope mirrors are generally coated with a thin layer of aluminium that can be easily scratched. That is why the less you clean your mirror the better. However, this 30cm parabolic mirror needed a deep clean! Do not risk to damage your mirror, never clean it with a dry cloth or lens tissue but use the right technique

14.01.2022 Mould can invade optics of any kind causing permanent damage to coating and optics. In fact, the metabolic products of fungus can corrode glass. In this William Optics FLT 132, fungus grew across all lenses but after cleaning the lenses using special products, the triplet returned to its original condition without reporting any permanent damage to lenses and anti-reflective coating. When you remove your telescope from your mount after a humid night, do not put on caps and do not store in a case but leave it for a few hours in horizontal position to let the humidity evaporate. Mould grows in the darkness when relative humidity is above 70%. If you do not use your telescope often, take it out from its storage every month, remove the dust caps, let some air flow and irradiate it with some UV light that helps avoiding fungus.

12.01.2022 How great is it to get a really dark sky just a few hours drive from Sydney? The Wyngala Waters State Recreation Park close to Cowra is the darkest sky you can get within 5 hours drive from Sydney. Last Sunday the SQM measured a staggering 21.93 mag/arcsec^2. The early morning was accompanied with a great Moon- Venus conjunction visible in the last photo. @ Wyangala Waters State Recreation Park
