17.01.2022 Shin splints is a condition that refers to any pain in the front or inside of the lower leg. Shin splints can be a wide array of conditions that all present with pain in the same part of the leg. Shin splints can refer to inflammation of the bones, tendons, or muscles around the shin. Because of the wide variety of conditions and tissues that can cause shin splints, the condition can be described as; cramping, burning, sharp, bruised, dull, or a variety of other pain descript...ors. This means that treating shin splints can not be a one size fits all approach. To treat shin splints it is first important to identify what tissue is actually inflamed, this can usually be completed in the clinic by your Podiatrist. During this assessment, a thorough history will be taken as well as a palpation examination and a video gait analysis. This will bring your pain from a general diagnosis of shin splints into a more specific condition that will help formulate a specific treatment plan for you and your treatment plan. Some conditions that cause shin pain can be very difficult to treat, particularly if the condition is not picked up early. If you have shin pain, we advise you to seek treatment to ensure the best outcomes for your pain.

12.01.2022 Plantar Fasciitis: The Basics The plantar fascia is a band of soft tissue that runs underneath the arch of the foot. Along with it comes one of the most common orthopaedic complaints:plantar fasciitis. The role of this band of soft tissue is to hold your arch up and provide support, it acts like a tie-beam on a bridge. Throughout each step, the plantar fascia is activated, but it is under the most strain during the push-off phase of gait (this is when you propel forward at t...he end of each step). At the heel of the foot, the plantar fascia has an attachment point known as the medial calcaneal tubercle; where many patients report plantar fascial pain. Often people experience heel pain as the plantar fascia tissue pulls on this attachment point. Read more https://www.tfcpodiatry.com.au/plantar-fasciitis-what-you-/

Of course, most of our patients have a reason they want to get rid of their pain! In the initial phase of treating a painful injury we often see people who are managing their load poorly. Some people will pull back from excercise too much and some people wont rest enough. 01.01.2022 At TFC Podiatry, this month we are talking about pain into the ball of the foot. As sports returns post lockdown we are seeing a lot of injured athletes with pain into the ball of the foot.
