15.06.2022 Instructional Coaching Melbourne What an amazing week. A day at St Andrew’s Werribee, a day at St Mary’s of the Cross, Point Cook and two days at St Mary’s Williamstown. Great conversations, great schools! Now heading home exhausted but excited by the learning and conversations we have had. Today we focused on Jim Knight’s research of Better Conversations, unpacking his 6 beliefs and 10 habits. Can’t wait to see what is achieved in the next term.
28.05.2022 St Francis of the Fields Strathfieldsaye Fantastic three days, with wonderful conversations and lots of curiosity and compassion.
09.05.2022 TERM 2 I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and was able to catch up with family or get away for some relaxing time. I got a little hooked to more Bright Morning online courses, completely throwing my body clock out of whack by joining live in the 1-3am sessions and 6-8am sessions. Crazy yes, but amazing learning. Hence the delay in sending out the timetables for this term which will be coming out today. I will either email these to you or send them through messenger.... Enjoy your ANZAC day and look forward to what we can achieve this term. Get ready to set your goals, and remember to be ambitious as anything is possible. Take care and welcome back.
26.04.2022 ANZAC Day Thanks to all of those who have bravely joined our forces and to their families for the sacrifices you also make. Totally we especially remember all you have done or do for us.
13.04.2022 Fantastic Coaching Conversations Two days of fabulous conversations, sharing of knowledge, skills and a love of learning. Thanks to the everyone for your vulnerability and commitment to growth, connection and challenge.
24.03.2022 Coaching Sessions Always great to catch up face to face for coaching sessions. Today was fabulous developing some great goals for the next term. Then relaxing with a beautiful view before tomorrow’s learning day with our new group of Instructional Coaches.
25.01.2022 Instructional Coaching with Darwin Last week I had the pleasure of coaching and training both teachers and Education Officers from the Darwin Catholic Education system. Although COVID 19 prevented me from being in Darwin it was still a very successful week. Zoom does alter the dynamics when the presenter is on the other side of the country but the conversation and engagement of all the participants was fabulous. One day focused on Unpacking High Impact Instruction Strategies and another on How do we embed Instructional Coaching? Looking forward to the ongoing coaching conversations this week.
25.01.2022 Hands on games Students are enjoying being able to access all the hands on resources again. Word building, creating compound sentences from simple sentences and fraction games. They are also improving verbalising their thinking to answer problems. This is helping them to identify their own errors as well as hearing the strategies others use to complete tasks.... Have a great week everyone.
23.01.2022 Term 3 I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday, recharging your batteries after a massive Term 2. Last term held so many new learning opportunities that we encountered but adapted to. Moving to Zoom tutoring sessions, home learning and home packs. We managed to achieve some amazing learning outcomes even amongst all of the uncertainties and changes. A growth mindset and resilience allowed us to take on the challenge of learning at home. I will be starting back tutoring... for Term 3 next week. I know there is still uncertainty around the term and how it will look but I think it is important to continue the learning routines that have been established. Tomorrow I will sent out your timetable for Term 3. At this stage there will be both Face to Face and Zoom sessions. If you are having Zoom sessions you will need to let me know and then organise collecting your new pack. Unfortunately due to the current lock down in Melbourne anyone who has traveled to Melbourne during the break will have to start with Zoom sessions. This is just a precaution to ensure everyone is kept safe from any possible exposure. Please let me know so I can organise your pack. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me. Enjoy the rest of your break.
23.01.2022 Home Packs With schools going back to remote learning I will do up home packs so that we can continue our sessions online with Zoom. Please notify me if there are specific things you would like in your kit. I will put in readers that will be used in our sessions as well as for home reading. I will try to get these organised as soon as possible. I will notify people when they are ready to be collected. If you wish to going back to sessions being held during the day please contact me and I will redo the schedule. Take care, stay safe and enjoy learning.
22.01.2022 Instructional Coaching Darwin Just a reminder that there are no tutoring sessions this week as I am working with the Catholic Education Office in Darwin. Enjoy your week back at school.
21.01.2022 Equivalent Fractions A fantastic session recognising the equivalent fractions and converting between fractions and decimals, hundredths and tens. Being able to read the fraction in words, numbers and recognise it in picture form are all key to building understanding of fractions.
19.01.2022 Another busy but amazing week of learning during our continued home learning. I am not sure who is doing the most learning, me or the students. This week we have covered concepts in spelling such as adding ion - recognising when we drop the e, when we change to tion. The different sounds made by oo and plurals, including when we add s, es, ies or change the f to v and then es. In reading we have read some books from the Cluey Louie series, Circus Bizurkas series, Highlights s...eries and the Stars of .. Series. These are all books I have managed to purchase due to Blake Education moving to all online and selling out of all hard copy versions of books. The students are loving reading new, glossy books tailored to their interests and level. In Maths we had covered strategies such as skip counting, friends of ten, build to 10, build to the next 10, build to 100, doubling and the split strategy. Concepts covered have included addition, short and long division, measurement converting different lengths, recognising acute, right and obtuse angles, estimating the size of the angle and then measuring it. Adding and subtracting fractions and then simplifying them. My coaching sessions with teachers from Darwin have also been extremely rewarding with some wonderful achievements being made in the classrooms. Technology is an ongoing learning opportunity as we share screens, use white boards on our screens, share learning tasks as would be done in the classroom with an interactive whiteboard. Thanks to everyone for making this week another rewarding learning week. Have a lovely weekend.
18.01.2022 Wow! What a fantastic week of tutoring. The students ranging from Year 1 to Year 8 all challenged themselves to attempt all tasks and really learn all that they could. Some fabulous talking through of mathematical concepts, sounding out of new and unknown words. Tasks this week ranging from recognising four variations for the long e sound, comprehension, algebra, multiplication and equivalent fractions. Well done to all students recognising the difference between learning and doing tasks. Keep up the fabulous effort, asking questions and driving your learning.
18.01.2022 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS The beginning of Term 3 will mark the 2nd Birthday of TG Coaching. Thank you to everyone who has supported the business in this time. I have had the absolute pleasure of working with about 60 students locally, teachers in Cairns, the Northern Territory and Melbourne during this time. I am definitely looking forward to the next 2 years.
17.01.2022 Home Packs Please let me know when best suits you to pick up your home pack and I will ensure it is ready and waiting. For students attending Primary school please let me know when their live online sessions with the school will be and then I can organise appropriate times during the day to have their tutoring if this suits. ... All secondary students will remain after school but might move to earlier time slots if this also suits. I will be working on the new time table this week.
12.01.2022 Good Luck Wishing everyone a fantastic day. Eleven weeks since you have been at school but well done on everything you have achieved in that time. So many changes to cope with over night. You have persevered and worked hard to continue learning at home during COVID. Enjoy seeing all your friends again. Tutoring will return to pre COVID times for most. There have been a few changes and some are staying with Zoom. Look forward to hearing about your return to school.
11.01.2022 So appropriate in the current times.
09.01.2022 2021 I am now taking names of students for next year. Please let me know if you wish to continue with tutoring next year so that I know how many available spots there are for new students. 2020 Feedback It is always important to be getting your feedback to ensure I am improving and developing to meet the specific needs of your child. Each child will respond to different techniques, strategies, materials and therefore it is important that we make adjustments to best meet your child's specific needs. This might mean changing the group they work in or trialing a different time.
09.01.2022 Math Pathways If your child uses Math Pathways please ensure that they are aware of the video tutorials which go for about 1 to 2 minutes. These can be found in the help section. ALL students should watch these before starting each module and then again when they are revising for their cycle test. It is a quick and efficient way of gaining greater understanding of the concepts and expectations of each unit.
07.01.2022 A must see for all Educators This is a great webinar. John Hattie, Doug Fisher & Nancy Frey put all their experience of visible learning into their new book and this webinar, The Distance Learning Playbook. It highlights the most important aspects for us to be currently thinking of for real engaging learning. Hope you enjoy it. I will definitely be buying the book.
05.01.2022 TERM 3 What a wonderful start we had with tutoring in the first week back. It was fantastic to see everyone so enthusiastic. Students enjoyed the new readers and new books that had been purchased during COVID. The Rex Jones Press to Explore, Dark Flight and Cluey series have all been thoroughly enjoyed by the different students. Ask your child if they have read or used one of the new books during their session. This week sessions will be as normal. Just a reminder that next ...week there will be no tutoring. Even though I cannot go to Darwin I will still be working with the staff from Northern Territory Catholic Education to continue the Instructional Coaching Project. Have a wonderful week and stay safe during this current time
05.01.2022 Tutoring Just a reminder that there is no tutoring today. As of tomorrow we resume Zoom sessions. We will stay with your normal times for a week until we know how the school day looks.... Take care. See more
02.01.2022 Fractions Fraction Walls & Equivalent Fractions This morning we looked at fractions and creating our fraction families by recognising a fraction when written in numbers, words, as part of a group and part of one. We then built fraction walls to recognise equivalent fractions and how they are equal. To then use this learning we played Fraction Cover Up and two fraction dominoes games.
