19.01.2022 The two key factors I consider paramount to my success are: mindset and systems. When I was running my first business, I didnt have much knowledge around either. Mindset was something that I would discover the importance of later. As for systems, I knew systemisation existed, and the more I learned about it the more I realised its importance. ... But I resisted it for years, because: 1. I didnt know enough about it. 2. It seemed super complicated. 3. I was too busy. Ironically, now I know that the reason I was too busy to systemise is because I hadnt systemised. The thing is, systemising your business doesnt need to take up much of your time. In fact, theres a way to systemise your business in a lean way, as opposed to letting processes build up around you organically (resulting in them being inefficient, time-intensive or labour intensive). You see, as the business owner, youre basically an asset manager. Kind of like a financial manager, whose job it is to get you the most amount of growth with the finances youre investing. The assets were managing as business owners are: our time, our money, our staffs time, and our business money. The better you can manage those resources, the more you can leverage your growth. Now, I get that managing your time, money, and people can be a challenge. But its not so hard when you follow a proven system. 12.01.2022 The other day, I watched the movie Arrival. For those who havent seen it, heres the basic story - A bunch of aliens that look like massive 8 fingered hands land in ships around the world. ... Different countries work to figure out how to communicate with them to see if they were about to go all Mars Attacks and laser-beam everyone into dust. All the countries work separately to figure out what to do ...despite Amy Adams central character pleading that working together was the best way to go. The separation of information means that we silly humans miss crucial information, and nearly start an intergalactic war. (Which wed definitely lose) It got me thinking... Each nation was working with incomplete sets of data. So they were making the wrong assumptions. They didnt know what they didnt know. And they made mistakes. Why didnt they work together? Maybe they were afraid. Or too proud. Maybe they resisted help because they were used to figuring stuff out on their own... ...Or any similar reason were not working together to help YOUR business right now. You see... While in business the stakes are perhaps not interplanetary-war high, there is still a lot at stake. Your livelihood, your staffs livelihood and so on. Working with a group of like-minded people to achieve a common goal is the best way to move forward with minimal casualties. It also happens to be the basis of modern civilization...
