Please note from 11.59pm Sunday 2nd Aug face masks or face coverings will be mandatory throughout all of Victoria. Updates to guidelines will be posted as they become available. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-coverings-covid-19 **Face mask - Schools From the LV Express 30/7/2020 All Victorian secondary school students will be required to wear face masks, with the government promising to distribute them ready for when mandatory mask rules come into effect for regional Victorians on Monday. Speaking with regional media this afternoon, Premier Daniel Andrews also said a $200 penalty will apply to anyone in regional Victoria not wearing a face mask or covering. It comes as Victoria recorded its deadliest day of the pandemic to-date, with 723 new COVID-19 infections reported overnight. Of those, 255 were in regional Victoria, with 159 of them in the Geelong corridor. Mr Andrews said anyone over the age of 12 should wear masks to school, following advice from the Chief Health Officer. He said the rules also applied uniformly to Catholic, independent and government schools. "It will not be any different to the way things operate in metro Melbourne at the moment," Mr Andrews said. "The age key factor is 12. Any younger than this, you shouldnt be wearing a mask. "This will be by-and-large secondary schools, but we will not be going around and finding 12-year-olds in Grade 6." He said teachers must also wear masks "where appropriate". "Its not always appropriate based on being able to see the teachers facial expression and their ability to communicate," Mr Andrews said. "Its about applying common sense and a shared commitment." He said the state government was working to distribute masks to regional Victorian schools within the next two or three days, with a lead-in to Monday. "So, its not like this will come into effect when the bell goes tomorrow morning. Im confident that via our regional office networks and other partnerships we can get single-use and reusable masks out," he said. Mr Andrews stressed that face coverings such as scarves or bandanas are also acceptable and encouraged people to look online for patterns to make their own. "Our secondary students are an impressive group, there are lots of creative things being done in Melbourne. Im pretty sure all this will be replicated in regional Victoria as well," he said. Are face coverings effective for protecting against coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission? Face coverings have been recommended around the world for use by the community to reduce transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). Your best protection is still to keep 1.5 metres apart from other people, to wash your hands thoroughly and regularly, and cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow. Face coverings are helpful in containing droplets when people cough, reducing the likelihood of spreading the virus. For the community, both cloth masks and surgical masks are effective in reducing the transmission of COVID-19. Does a cloth mask have to have three layers? While the Chief Health Officer recommends a mask with three layers, any face mask or covering is better than none. More FAQ https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-coverings-covid-19

18.01.2022 Naidoc Week celebrations will kick off in Sale this Sunday at The Wedge Loading Dock. In a partnership between The Wedge and the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters A...boriginal Corporation, the day will feature a Welcome to Country, followed by a special performance by Aboriginal rock band Black Satin. Black Satin is an Aboriginal rock band originally formed in 1976, by cousins Ricky Harrison, Nick Moffatt, Wayne Thorpe and Tony Hood. Iconic Aboriginal band ‘No Fixed Address’ was co-founded by Ricky and other students from the Centre for Aboriginal studies in Music in Adelaide in 1979. Nick joined up with NFA in the 80s and along with Ricky toured UK in the English summer of 1984. This year ‘No Fixed Address’ was honoured by the announcement by Adelaide City Council that a laneway will be named after ‘No Fixed Address’, along with a Mural and a plaque honouring band members. Along with the original members of the band was inducted into the Adelaide Music Collectives South Australian music ‘Hall of Fame’ in 2016 and the National Indigenous Music ‘Hall of Fame’ in 2011. Ricky and Nick reformed ‘Black Satin’ in 2018 and have been performing around Gippsland. Other band members include Sean Moffatt, Peter Hood. It will be the bands first performance in Sale since 1976. Nice to be able to perform again with Black Satin, great to have Sean Moffatt as a member, he played lead guitar on a couple of songs on my album ‘Birrark’ and was our lead guitar for ‘Bloodlines’ 1995-97. Sean is also a member of Melbourne band ‘Stray Blacks’. Peter Hood is our drummer and was a member of ‘Coloured Stone’ and ‘No Fixed Address’. Peter along with Nick was inducted into 2011 NIMA ‘Hall of Fame’. Sean and Peters experience alongside Ricky and Nick, in the music industry goes back many years. And the music generated by the band is reminiscent of the pioneering days of Aboriginal rock-reggae music. ‘A song I wrote back when I was 16 for Black Satin titled ‘The Vision’ was the first original reggae song that was performed by ‘No Fixed Address’ and featured on the movie sound track ‘Wrong Side of the Road’ 1981. It was the root song that started the Aboriginal reggae music revolution. Black Satin still performs the song today, more polished version with Nicks powerful vocal harmonies, Sean’s mystic overtures on lead guitar, and Peter brilliant drumming, breathing new fire into the alpha reggae number. Over the years we performed with many Australian and oversea’s acts Cold Chisel, Redgum, Men At Work, INXS, Goanna, and international acts Split Enz, The Clash, Ian Drury, Peter Tosh and Carlos Santana. Today there is a need for music facilities for community musicians in Gippsland to utilise such as rehearsal space, access to recording facilities, information and support in regard to music industry initiatives. It is something that band members are working towards establishing in the new year, a community music agency. This event is FREE with only 50 tickets available to be in our audience however, we will be live-streaming on our Facebook page for those who miss out on tickets or can't make it on the day. https://thewedge.com.au//naidoc-week-celebration-black-sa/ GLaWAC Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation- Sale WIN News Gippsland ABC Gippsland Gippsland Times Wellington Shire Council Munji Music #thewedgesale #naidocweek2020 #blacksatin

11.01.2022 Join me (Brit) and my trusty assistant Tay as we show you how to make no-sew masks! View the full video here http://bit.ly/lysdiy_no_sewmasks In this video... we use single layered cloth, but three layers is the reccommendation, so if you have the fabric handy and youre medically able to**, use the hot glue or an iron-on backing to layer it up. Also be careful about using thin stretchy material in only a single layer as this might actually increase your risk*. If youre doing a single layer try to use silk, non-stretch polyester/polyester blends, or cotton (should be able to find this info on the tag). Heres the template for the fabric shape + allow room extra on the sides for the elastic and check it on your face before cutting out in case you need to add more length/height: https://www.pocketsquareclothing.com//how-to-use-your-fac/ To check out all our previous DIY videos, from patching plaster to basic tools, head over here https://bit.ly/lys_diy Stay tuned for: 4pm Study tips - LIVE with TAFE how to get motivated to study and how to stay motivated 5pm Drawing tutorials with Danni - flintsones!
