18.01.2022 Have you received seeds in the mail that you didn’t purchase? Don’t plant them or throw them away, report them! The department has seen an increase in reports o...f unsolicited seeds arriving in Australia through the mail, and we’re asking all Australians to be extra biosecurity aware. These seeds could pose a biosecurity risk, so it is important that any suspicious parcels are reported to the department. Seeds that do not meet our biosecurity conditions may carry a range of invasive species or harmful plant diseases that can threaten your backyard garden, our environment and our agricultural industries. We all have a role to play to protect Australia from biosecurity risks. If you receive seeds in the mail that you didn’t purchase, report it immediately at awe.gov.au/report or by calling 1800 798 636.

11.01.2022 Fall Army Worm has been detected in North Western Qld and could be elsewhere. If you suspect you have seen a Fall Army Worm it is important that you report it to Biosecurity Qld, this needs to be taken seriously. This worm will decimate our cropping industries, the cost of insecticide alone to treat is approx $400 per hectare. The economic losses and the cost to control this insect will place our cropping industry under immense economic pressures. #biosecuritymatters

10.01.2022 Locust Numbers on the rise but APLC predicts they won’t reach plague proportions over the next twelve months. Locust control is best undertaken at the nymph stage when they form bands prior to getting on the wing. They are easy to control at this stage. #biosecuritymatters

07.01.2022 Do you know where you flowers come from? Perhaps it’s not where you think. We have dodged a bullet so far but, how long before a pest or disease outbreak occurs?

07.01.2022 Checking weed status of products you are bringing onto farm and ensuring all vehicles plant and machinery are cleaned down thoroughly prior to entering the farm Is really important to help minimise the risk of new weed incursions. Parthenium weed is a serious problem quickly colonising bare or disturbed soils particularly favouring black soil. #biosecuritymatters #weedhygiene
