11.01.2022 Asanha Bucha Day takes place on every full moon day of the 8th lunar month. It celebrates the Buddhas first sermon, the Dhamma Chakka Pavattana Sutta, in Isipatana (Sarnath in modern day), to his five former associates, and consequentially gain his first disciple from one of them. Therefore, this day is also celebrated as the day on which Three Jewels of Buddhism were completed: the Buddha, the Dharma (Buddhas teachings), and the Sangha (monastic order of Buddhism). On this auspicious day, Thai Buddhists usually visit temples to make merit by offering alms to monks and novices, and also to listen to sermons. In the evening, people also walk around the main shrine of the temple 3 times to pay respect to each of the Three Jewels of Buddhism.
