03.01.2022 Gerard Ates, a flamboyant/talkative hairdresser with That Barber Shop in Wahroonga, reached an impressive milestone on 12 November 2020, with his 100,000th hair...cut. Gerard first started cutting hair in his teens in Turkey in 1969 coincidentally the same week Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon a big week for these two men. After moving to Paris and expanding his style repertoire for 5 years, Gerard moved to Australia in 1978 where he worked in a range of salons in the City and North Sydney. At the peak of his career, Gerard managed his own salon in the Hunter Connection with 15 employees. Since 2008, Gerard has settled into the Wahroonga scene content to share stories, jokes and laughs whilst cutting hair for one and all from wipper-snippers (his words) to old fuddy-duddies (his words again!). Well done Gerard a Wahroonga Legend!
