23.01.2022 Gday Gardeners This Sunday is the Summer edition of The Kalamunda Garden Festival. That Citrus Guy will be available from 8am to 12 noon so be sure to bring all your edible garden questions along and if you need a new Citrus tree for the garden I will have a huge range available. See you there gardenershttps://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1543580059141457&id=1080264955472972

22.01.2022 Gday Gardeners here is a post just to followup on yesterdays Mango pruning video. Mangoes can be pruned anytime during their active growth period, but usually will be done after fruit set to remove unsuccessful blooms and after fruiting to correct shape and promote more flowering crowns. As flowers originate from crowns we want to maximize their numbers and the easiest way to do that is via tip pruning of single shoots to create multiple shoots. Simply find the collar along ...the stem (this is a ring that divides two growths) and prune 1cm into the newer growth, in a number of weeks the eyes will begin swelling around this region and new shoots will emerge. This is very simple to do and almost always yields positive results, with as many as five shoots possible from one single tipped shoot. Try it out for yourself on a few long single shoots on your tree to see the results and remember that March should really be your last prune before the Winter months. See more

20.01.2022 Good Evening Gardeners As the Play School song goes...There's a Pear in there and a Guy as well.... Anyhow, I think its something like that. Gardeners growing Pears in pots is fabulous fun and this little ripper has been providing the family with a bounty for a number of years now. Pears want plenty of water and nutrients mixed with a good dose of sunlight and a little winter cleanup. Pears do benefit from a pollinating partner and will require thinning to produce larger f...ruit, I actually like to leave bunches as it produces a lovely school size Pear for The Citrus Kids although it may just happen to be that I never got around to thinning them Pears mature on the tree and are ready to harvest when they break away easily from the branch, simply bend the fruit up and if it is ready it will snap cleanly off. Fruit should be stored in the refrigerator until needed and can be ripened on the bench for a number of days to soften and sweeten I hope your having a great weekend gardeners and I will speak to you soon See more

20.01.2022 Gday Gardeners Oh Rain Glorious Rain. I hope you all got your fair share, without any unnecessary dramas of course. Gardeners this is a That God It's Friday post and I thought it would be nice to share something I am just a little excited about.....just a little. The Longan.....The what? I hear you say. Well Gardeners the Longan or Dragons Eye is the not so handsome cousin of the Lychee and if you have a hunt at your local green grocer you will be sure to find the little b...rown gems for a taste test. The Longan is super easy to grow, loves a prune and yes gardeners....it will grow in a pot This is one plant you will certainly not regret having in the collection and worst case scenario if you disagreed with me you could gift it to a friend...... Gardeners I would love to see what's going on in the garden on this TGIF Friday, and please don't hesitate to ask any edible garden questions you may have. Apologies for the slow replies of late, TCG has been flat out. Have a great weekend everyone and I will see you all soon See more

20.01.2022 Gardeners bad news is never easy to give or to receive, but I feel it is time to let the That Citrus Guy family into our lives once more. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you all, our beautiful Jasmine was taken from us in a motor vehicle accident a number of weeks ago. This is an unforseen tragedy beyond our comprehension and it has thrown not only our lives into a spin, but all those who came into contact with her. Many of you will know Jasmine well and will have inte...racted with her one on one at any number of the many events we have attended. You will know her voice and her beautiful smile and know just how wonderful she was, through her actions and interactions with yourselves. I have temporarily stopped That Citrus Guy as I just can't give you guys that attention I want to and I apologize to all of you who have messages that have gone unanswered. I will return and our lives will go on, but we will never be the same. Hold your loved ones close to you, kiss them, hug them and tell them you love them, this life is so short and our time is only borrowed. My Love to you all and please stay safe until we meet again. Thank you Gardeners.

18.01.2022 Good Morning Gardener's I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend and spending some time in the garden. Now by this stage I am sure many of you will be aware of the Citrus Gall Wasp and the implications it can have not only on your own citrus trees, but those in surrounding properties. Thankfully CGW is quite easy to spot, particularly on smaller trees and with correct seasonal management they can easily be kept under control. As we are now in Spring the emergence of t...his tiny pest is imminent, so please take a little time this weekend to have a good look at your citrus trees and remove any galls you happen to locate. Remember Gardener's that Citrus Gall Wasp can emerge from branches well after they are removed from the tree so be sure to either bury, burn or bag the galls to ensure the little critters don't escape. Thanks everyone, be sure to enjoy the rest of your weekend and please don't hesitate to ask That Citrus Guy any edible garden questions you may have.

17.01.2022 G'day Gardener's That Citrus Guy will be at the Stirling Square Markets in the beautiful town of Guildford this Sunday 21st from 9am to 2pm. It is now more than a year since That Citrus Guy has attended regular markets and although we have experienced significant changes in our lives, the time is now right to take up where we left off. I would like to thank you all for your ongoing patience, especially waiting for replies to questions and I look forward to seeing you all at any upcoming events. Stay safe and well Gardener's and remember to get your hands dirty and keep your thumbs green.

17.01.2022 Good evening gardeners I trust we all have had a fabulous start to the new week.....trust me once you love Mondays life gets a whole lot easier Now it is most certainly my opinion that growing Avocados helps build character and there is nothing wrong with a grown man crying haha just kidding gardeners....honest. Now I will always stand by the thought that our plants know better than us and if something is not right or if it has just over committed to a crop it will conve...niently sort it out for us, saving us the heartbreaking job of thinning fruit....Thanks trees. (Joke, thin your fruit) This Pinkerton Avocado set over thirty fruit in its second ever crop and after a few odd drops, around 20 still remained. I watched these fruit develop daily in amazement, but always with the constant thought in the back of my mind "this can't be possible"and well gardeners it wasn't this second crop is now 4 large developing Pinkerton Avocados and I no longer have that nagging feeling that somethings got to give. This tree simply dropped every fruit it couldn't carry and kept what it could and I am OK with that and anyways eventually you run out of tears so all is well. Gardeners have a great week and remember any edible garden questions anytime See more

09.01.2022 Good Evening Gardeners and God Bless you all. On behalf of the Citrus Guy family I would like to send all my love, thanks and best wishes to each and everyone of you. The response from the That Citrus Guy community was just so overwhelming it filled my heart with joy and it has given me the biggest boost to work even harder to bring us all together and spread the good garden message.... Gardener's we seem to avoid struggle like the plague, but honestly it is in suffering where often the greatest lessons lay. We will all experience hardships in our lives, but it is in those times where we learn not just who we are, but who those closest to us are and gardeners I have found out just how close many of you are. It is official that I am back, That Citrus Guy is ready and willing to take on all your edible garden questions and steer you all towards being more self sufficient in your garden and even more hopefully put a big smile on your dials where ever possible. Thanks Gardeners and I will speak to you all soon

08.01.2022 Good evening Gardeners I hope everyone is well and staying safe and I am so very glad to be speaking with you all on this chilly Wednesday night. This specimen is the Rain Forrest Pearl Finger Lime and the bumper haul belongs to my Mum....Love ya Jilly Gardeners the Finger Lime is most certainly the perfect addition to any garden and quite easy to grow...all you need is a decent pot or space in the garden, free draining soil, a nice sunny position and a little patience. M...ums secret to success Do nothing....mmmmmm. Gardeners a dose of Troforte for Citrus and fruiting plants every 6 months will be more than enough to keep your Finger Lime happy and healthy and a light prune to keep it orderly when neccessary. Remember when I say be patient...I mean it, this is the fifth year for this tree and its first notable crop... but well worth the wait in my opinion. Gardeners my love and best wishes to you all and my apologies for the slow responses on my message service. I will speak to you all again soon and please don't hesitate to ask any edible garden questions you may have....I will answer them as soon as possible. Thanks everyone.

07.01.2022 Good Evening Gardeners That Citrus Guy was having a little fun Mango pruning today, have a look and see how simple tip pruning can be. This pruning is done to promote crown development whilst reducing size both in height and width. Enjoy Gardeners, hope it's not to Shakey

06.01.2022 Good Evening Gardener's That Citrus Guy will be at tommorows Kalamunda Garden Festival from 8am to 12 noon, come along and say Gday. https://www.facebook.com/1080264955472972/posts/1812282828937844/

06.01.2022 G'day Gardener's That Citrus Guy is at the Kalamunda Garden Festival today from 8am to 12 noon.

06.01.2022 Good Morning Gardener's Just a little post to show you what can be achieved in your home garden. This Carambola or Star Fruit has only been in my collection for a couple of years now and it has produced a lovely little crop of fruit for it's first effort. Gardeners always dare to be different in your edible garden, write down a list of the weird and wonderful things you could only dream of growing and let's make it a reality......That Citrus Guy is here to help in any way he can and the advice is always free.

05.01.2022 Gday Gardeners With the super hot days we are experiencing watering is an absolute must and often at the first opportunity we rush out to water. Gardeners we all know how hot water can get when sitting in a hose exposed to the full sun.....bloody hot and if this super heated water is applied to either your plants foliage or roots you and they are going to have serious problems. This also applies to reticulation that has above ground piping, especially black poly piping and s...paghetti tubing. Simply run your hose into a bucket, or deep birdbath or even a cup of tea and when watering with exposed poly piped reticulation be sure to do so either early morning or in the evening. So stating the obvious yes, but sometimes the obvious is just to obvious to consider. Keep this in mind when asking children to water for you, they will almost always put that hose straight onto the plants, I mean why wouldn't they...... It's obvious right. Have a great day gardeners and I will see you soon See more

05.01.2022 Good evening gardeners After a big day in the nursery, I have filled up the trailer with some of the best Citrus available and I have even found a few special items that are a little harder to find. Finger Limes are a hot ticket item at the moment and the Rainforest Pearl is one you won't find around town, I also have the Byron Sunrise Finger Lime and the hybridized Red Centered Lime. Yuzu Lemons are a spectacular addition to any edible garden and the Kaffir Lime is a classi...c for those of us that love Asian inspired cooking. Best Mandarins available with varieties like Daisy, Emperor, Imperial, Ellendale, Hickson, Satsuma Japanese Seedless and more there is something for everyone and I have Oranges of all types The Cara Cara Navel is my personal favorite, with its red flesh and super sweet flavour it is a must have in my opinion, I also have Washington Navel, Lanes Late Navel, Maltese Blood, Ipolito Blood, Midknight Seedless Valencia and Pineapple Valencia. Lemons and Limes look awesome with Eureka and Meyer Lemon plus Tahitian and Kusaie Limes on offer. Of course it wouldn't be a day at the Festival without Mangos and Avocados with Kensington Pride and Royal Special Mangos looking great and fully sun hardened Hass, Wurtz and Gwen Avocado available. Come along tomorrow to the Kalamunda Garden Festival and say Gday I am there from 8am to 12noon so get the family in the car and get along See more

05.01.2022 Good Morning Gardener's Well it has been a long time coming, but That Citrus Guy is finally out to meet and greet with you all. The last event was the Summer edition of the Kalamunda Garden Festival, so it seems only fitting to return for their Spring edition. A special thanks to everyone who has made this day possible, without your Love and Support this just wouldn't be possible. Gardener's come along to today's Kalamunda Garden Festival and be sure to drop in and say G'day, it's the perfect weather for a day in the garden.

03.01.2022 Gday Gardeners Take some time out to appreciate the little things in life. Although small they may be, often large is the joy that they bring This baby Praying Mantis took a moment to sit on the end of my Budding Knife, I assume to appreciate how such a small thing can make such a big difference and Gardeners he is right.

03.01.2022 Gday Gardeners Feeding time at the farm again and I thought it timely to run through a few things I use on my Citrus trees to keep them looking great and producing well. In the wheelbarrow I have Rooster Booster, Seamungus, Blood and Bone and Sulphate of Potash, and missing from the barrow is Troforte for Citrus and fruiting plants that I apply on a 6 monthly basis. These fertilizers are all very easy to use and relatively cheap to purchase and I find them very forgiving if... over applied. Feeding should be around every two months starting from the first signs of September's warmth through to the last warm days of April, with rates of application varying with the size of tree. Fertilizers should be applied on and beyond the drip line of the tree, this is the area directly below the widest part of the trees canopy and the area where most of the plants fine feeder roots will be found. Water plays a huge role in the decomposition and delivery of nutrients so be sure to keep that in mind when applying and if you drippers or sprinklers don't wet the fertilizer, introduce hand watering at least once a week to ensure it is soaking in and breaking down. If you have any fertilizer related questions gardeners please don't hesitate to ask and remember to drop in and say Gday at this Sundays Kalamunda Garden Festival See more

03.01.2022 Gday Gardeners Well what a fabulous time of the year it is, the garden is full of different fruit to enjoy and these Red Centered Limes are looking particularly lovely. The Australian Red Centered Lime was developed by the CSIRO and is a hybridization of the native Finger Line and the Ragpour Lime producing this fantastic compact tree. If you are looking for something new for the garden, be it a small courtyard, a large pot, or even something new for an orchard, the Red Cen...tered Lime is definitely for you. It's ease of growth and low maintenance make it perfect for beginners and with the flesh of this fruit being very similar to the Finger Lime, you can be enjoying the beautiful caviar like flesh without the sometimes added complications that the Finger Lime can present. Have a look for yourself gardeners, do a little research or feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Have a great day everyone, I hope you are well and safe and smiling for life See more

01.01.2022 Gday Gardeners I hope this post finds you and your family safe and well. Soooo 2020 may well have been a little ruff.....well Ok maybe a little more than ruff, but it never seems too hard to find something to smile about if you are prepared to stop and have a little look. This Willy Wagtail has been a nursery companion of mine for many years now and each and everytime I see him I just can't help but stop and give him a peice of my time. It is a simple pleasure but it alway...s cheers me up and best of all it doesn't cost a cent. Gardener's the simple joys of life are the best and the best things in life are free.....or at least they should be. Take some time from your busy life to get out into nature with your family and friends, stop to listen and look around at the beautiful things we often take for granted and be thankful for any blessings you have.....even if they seem very small See more
