25.01.2022 So, what exactly *is* branding? Your brand is NOT your logo! Shocking, I know, but it’s true! Your brand is made of many elements and the visuals are just one small part of the whole package.... Your brand is defined by all the things which affect how people perceive you. It’s the complete story of what you want to communicate about your business. It’s the face of your business, the heart of your business and it’s the personality of your business. Your brand is the emotional feeling you leave in the hearts and minds of your audience. So you see, your brand is SO much more than just your logo! There are some key elements which define your brand: Brand Purpose Brand Promise Brand Differentiation Brand Personality Brand Voice Brand Identity Together, these create the complete image of your business. And that’s why, before you even begin to think about creating a logo, socials or marketing, you must be SUPER clear on what your brand truly is. 19.01.2022 Some changes are afoot! The first one is kinda big as of October 1st (this Thursday) we won't be offering website design anymore. Eeek! Until now, Luke (my web guru hubby) has been working his full time job plus building websites for me. But he's recently been given a higher level role so won't have capacity to do both.... On request, we might be able to do one or two here and there but the standard packages will be taken off my website on Thursday. We WILL of course continue with the projects we already have AND offer support to those we've already built sites for. Who knows what the future holds so they may be back at some point, but for now, they're going bye-bye! The next thing on the chopping block is my Branding +Plus package! I'm booked out for the rest of this year but soon I'll be offering a revised Branding Package to be more encompassing of a small brands needs. And finally, when I started Design School earlier this year, I didn't know what to expect from it because the whole teaching space was incredibly new for me. But you know what? I LOVED IT! And more importantly, my students did too. I loved teaching them and I'll love teaching you my 19+ years of design wisdom. I've got a stack of ideas up my sleeve on how I can teach you to build a beautiful DIY brand that won't cost a kidney. Learning design is not rocket science. If it was, I definitely would NOT be doing it! The basics can absolutely be learned (no creativity necessary) and design is such a critical part of your marketing which I feel is really undervalued. The number of times I've heard other course providers say 'just use Canva' blows my mind. It truly does. Design is crucial to your marketing success and guess what? The visuals are KEY in that! So yep, I'll be offering some design learning shortly too. Some will be short and sweet, some will be self-paced and some will be in a group setting (like Design School Foundations which is short and sweet and coming soon!). One thing is for sure, ALL will be crammed with brand building goodness designed to see YOUR brand flourish. Truly, it WILL. I promise Art: @justbecausedesignco

10.01.2022 Wow! Just WOW, 2020. I usually make time for regular self care and time out with a weekend away when I can (a staycation in the city is my FAV!), but 2020 has obviously really challenged that ability to get some time out (thanks second-wave lockdown ). I've been super busy, which really is fantastic given the shit show that has been this year, but, I also need to make sure I fill my cup because creativity and design is something that I invest a lot of myself in.... Being flat knacker has made me really think about the direction I want this little business to go in, too. As in, what do I enjoy most about it? And also, what don’t I enjoy. So, I’ve made a few decisions and 2021 will see some differences in the services I offer and the design training I’ll provide. More details on that will come down the track, but I reckon they’ll be good for me, my family, my business and YOU! I'm not going to lie. Having to cancel plans for my staycay in July was a total bummer and holy moly, what I'd give for some peaceful time out! Art: @littlegemstudio

08.01.2022 Next year is going to look a little different around these parts! I know it’s still September but for the first time in a long time, I’m looking ahead instead of winging it I’ve been having a good hard look at the things I love and don’t love about my business and for the sake of my sanity () I’ll be culling a few things from my service offering. But at the same time, trying out some new things! The first thing on the chopping block is my Branding +Plus package. Instead, I...’ll be restructuring my Branding Package to include a couple of essentials so it’ll be more all-encompassing for small businesses. And for something new? A bit more design training in a few different shapes and forms. I truly believe learning some design know-how will transform the things you create for your business so I’d like to try my hand at offering some helpful advice, tips and tricks to help you build a beautiful brand So yep, that’s a couple of things on the horizon with more to come Hopefully I’m making the right decisions, but you know, live and learn and all that! I’d love to know though, would you find learning design basics useful in your business?

06.01.2022 This week in Design School we’ve been learning about the design principles. These are the foundations of ALL design ever, so are REALLY important to know and understand and recognise and implement. For my students, these principles will underpin everything they create for their business from this day forward. And, from the feedback I received in last nights Live lesson, I think it’s fair to say they now know just HOW important these principles are! ... If you’d like to learn a few of them plus a whole bunch of other design goodness, I’ll be running a short and sweet Design School Foundations course later in October.
