He has the most incredible vinyl, DVD and other stu...ff there. he agree to sell our "official" (I hate that fucking word, what does it mean?) #sedition_2019 t- shirts which have a great design by Hugh Ramage and Michael Sherman. 19.01.2022 I had dinner with #martinarmiger once. I said how I was put off reading philosophy because it was too hard. Martin said that the best way to approach Hegel was ...while tripping on LSD ... So on Thursday 5th December I'll be back behind the mike at #eastside89.7fm Eastside Radio 89.7FM from 10.30am to noon. I was planning to celebrate #roberthunter who died earlier this year but as you probably know, Martin Armiger and Greedy Smith have also shuffled off this coil. Martin was an extraordinary character. He had the uncanny ability to be at the most hip point in the town. He was where style and wit met. Early groups the Sharks, the High Rise Bombers and the Bleeding Hearts were all legends way beyond their popularity. Martin was always well dressed and beaming a crinkly smile with a truely bohemian air. He joined the Sports and was a foil to #stevo_cummo Stephen Cummings, writing the pop hits. Those LPs are still among the greatest pop LPs of the punk / new wave era. As is Stephen's brilliant Senso album produced by Martin. Having contributed to the soundtrack of the movie Pure Shit, martin gravitated through the 80s towards soundtrack work. For awhile he co-published the interesting X-Press magazine. His writing was always erudite and his work usually had a cute twist somewhere. You hear his composition every night in the theme song of the ABC News. Greedy Smith was very like Martin; they both looked well in suits. They were both big hearted, always with a positive spin, slightly bemused by the human condition. Whe I met Greedy he had recently joined the Mentals and seemed to overawed by surrounding talent - and these were very smart guys. He never took himself too seriously but he was very serious about that band. And the Mentals were an incredible machine - those songs can not be matched for originality and their capacity to make life seem like worth it. These were not just party anthems; they were as great as pop music gets. Greedy grew into his role as frontman and writer and was finally one of the greats. On a different note, Evan Dando is leading the Lemonheads at the Fairgrounds Festival on the weekend at Berry just a couple of hours away. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that Dando was the best songwriter/ singer to emerge from the 90s. His last LP Varshons 2 features my favourite song of the year "Things." But there's lots of other great tracks.
