25.01.2022 Congratulations to Edie Davies, a past TAWS student, who this year received an OnStage nomination for her monologue 'Imagine' by A.P McCue in her HSC Drama presentation. OnStage is a showcase of exemplary HSC drama performances across NSW. Well done Edie! And best of luck to all our past students currently sitting the HSC. ... 18.01.2022 Camps are an integral part of the Waldorf education and offer many learning opportunities and experiences. Where possible, our Class 9 and 10 curriculums will include four camps across two years; two Wilderness Camps, a research and discovery camp, and a service trip. During each camp, Main Lessons are continued, with links drawn between place and curriculum. Every camp also connects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and knowledge. The Wilderness Ca...mps create a space where adolescences can build on their connection to nature, themselves and each other. They are an immersive experience specifically designed to meet students’ need for inspiration, adventure, independence and challenge. Research and Discovery Camps harnesses educational insight and inspire students in a topic of study and create a readiness to engage deeply with material when they return to school. Service Trips allow students to engage in a structured program to give to others and contribute positively to the community. At a time when adolescents are questioning their place in the world, these Service Trips to give freely and in the process find that they too have gained. 14.01.2022 Tuesday 16th February is Shrove Tuesday, the day before the beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday. Shrove Tuesday originated during the Middle Ages. As in contemporary times, food items like meats, fats, eggs, milk, and fish were regarded as restricted during Lent. To keep such food from being wasted, many families would have big feasts on Shrove Tuesday in order to consume those items that would inevitably become spoiled during the next forty days. The English tradition of eatin...g pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came about as a way to use as much milk, fats, and eggs as possible before Ash Wednesday began. In France, the consumption of all fats and fatty foods on this day coined the name "Fat Tuesday" or Mardi Gras. The 7/8 curriculum focusses on The Middle Ages and The Renaissance. This makes Shrove Tuesday a perfect day to acknowledge and discuss as we go through the year. In keeping with the 7/8 tradition, the class will be making pancakes for morning tea for Classes 1 - 8. There will be gluten and dairy free pancakes available. There will be no charge for this delicious treat which is being covered by FoW. www.waldorf.nsw.edu.au

12.01.2022 Music and instrument lessons are part of the TAWS curriculum, music not only improves overall health, it also improves cognitive function, trains discipline and patience, builds confidence and teamwork, relieves stress, enhances creativity and is fun! Music Boosts Your Social Life - When you learn how to play an instrument, you are able to create something beautiful for your loved ones to enjoy, which brings you closer. If you decide to play music in public, you might make so...me new friends. If you play with a group of musicians, a sense of fellowship is shared amongst musicians, who can collectively produce so much more than an individual can. Nothing beats a good old-fashioned jamming/hangout session with other musicians, and the bonds and friendships you make are priceless. https://www.libertyparkmusic.com/benefits-learning-music/ To learn more about The Armidale Waldorf school, or to obtain an enrolment form, please contact the office at [email protected] or call (02) 6772 8876 www.waldorf.nsw.edu.au

03.01.2022 Our class 7 and 8 students are participating in the UNE SMART Farms, CottonInfo and UNE Discovery ‘Soil Your Undies’ project, which aims to increase awareness and understanding of soil health in a novel and fun way. Our students buried a pair of cotton underpants in the school garden and we are eagerly waiting to see what will happen to them! ‘Cotton is made of a sugar called cellulose and the tiny decomposers love to eat it, working together to break down the cellulose into... smaller sugars they can use for energy. So, by using 100% cotton undies, we can explore how healthy our soils are by looking at how much of the undies are left after two months! If there’s not much left of the undies there is good biological activity, which indicates healthy soil.’ (UNE Discovery Photo by Janelle Montgomery CottonInfo). www.waldorf.nsw.edu.au

02.01.2022 Music Gets the Creative Juices Flowing At The Armidale Waldorf School music and instrument lessons are an underpinning part of the curriculum; supporting overall health, improving cognitive function, training discipline and patience, building confidence and teamwork, relieving stress, enhancing creativity and most importantly, it is fun! Music lets you look beyond what currently exists and express yourself in a new way, according to Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. Mu...sic is all about understanding basic rules and then expressing yourself in the form of sound. Writing your own song, improvising solos, and re-performing existing songs are the ways that musicians create something out of nothing. It is no surprise that research has shown that numerous successful people studied music at one point in their lives. https://www.libertyparkmusic.com/benefits-learning-music/ To learn more about The Armidale Waldorf school, or to obtain an enrolment form, please contact the office at [email protected] or call (02) 6772 8876 www.waldorf.nsw.edu.au
