22.01.2022 Fresh lilac blooms for tomorrow’s guest and featuring a beautiful raku slab style bowl by ceramicist Fred Chivers. A prolific ceramicist and artist, Fred Chivers was based in Port Stephens during the later part of his life, where he also taught ceramics, wheel throwing and hand building, in addition to jewellery making. In his 90’s, and amazingly still creating work and teaching others, he recently passed away however he left behind a lifetime of incredibly beautiful work, ...many experimental forms of pottery and glazing at the time. ‘The Art Room’ is fortunate to have this lovely piece by Fred Chivers, that adds to the collection of Newcastle based artists whose work is featured in our unique accomodation space.

13.01.2022 Announcing a space upgrade to ‘The Art Room’... After seeing how many of our guests enjoy using the adjoining music room (which can also be converted to additional sleeping space if needed) we decided to set up a table to give a little more versatility to the space. It’s now easier for ‘in home’ dining from one of the many fabulous local places that do takeaway and delivery or an Ubereats drop-off of pretty much anything Newcastle has to offer delivered straight to our door.... And our local independent bottle shop is only a few metres around the corner on Maitland Road. They have a great range including many local and organic wines. Of a morning the sun filters through the timber shutters to provide a sweet little spot to enjoy our delicious homemade breakfast of organic and local produce or even sit at the table and dabble in some drawing and writing all within the inspiring little art filled space. There is ample access to powerpoints and fast wifi makes it all very easy to get stuff done if needed or better still switch it all off and throw on a record. This room houses a growing collection of Indigenous art along with work by local artists and craftspeople including myself. Stay with us on your next visit to Newcastle or consider recommending us to your friends and family. We have a 100% 5 STAR guest rating since opening in late January and we will make sure you, your friends or family, are very well looked after.
13.01.2022 Do you know someone having cancer treatment or folks with a loved one in the thick of things at the Mater Calvery hospital who are from out of town and might need accommodation close by ? We have launched a midweek deal to help look after those that might need a little more understanding and an accommodation option that gives them a lot more than the standard motel. For something extra special we have 4 gorgeous pets (2 dogs and 2 cats) who are all tested and vaccinated to b...e safe around people with low immune systems. They are trained to be around people and are a great therapy and companion when sick. If guests are not a fan of animals we can ensure they keep their distance. And having terminal stage 4 metastatic cancer myself, we certainly understand those guests tackling the cancer nightmare and their needs far better than most. Those undergoing chemo often need to stay near the hospital for the standard 48 hour process in addition to all manner of visits and stays at the Mater Calvery. 11.01.2022 70's vibe in our generous guest bathroom. Plenty of natural light, art, plants and a bathtub worthy of a long soak with a great shower with kick arse water pressure. Come and stay with us
