25.01.2022 This Commercial Hemp build by Belubula Hemp Homes in Hartley Vale in the NSW Blue Mountains near Lithgow, will be used to dry and store organically grown garlic for Hartley Vale Good Garlic Co., without the use of air conditioning or significant artificial air flow. The hempcrete is ideal for this use. The property is being developed by Dr Michelle Zeibots from the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at the University of Technology (UTS) and incorporates multiple sustainability features including circular economy food production and waste processing, with the aim of using it as a working example of what can be done to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improving quality of life and cost effectiveness. The building has been designed by Dick Clarke from Envirotecture, designer of multiple hemp homes and a fellow ISF graduate.
25.01.2022 Every hemp house that is built supports the re engagement with this agricultural staple..Hemp for the future. #hemp #hempbuilding #hempmasonry

23.01.2022 New Developments with Mobile Hemp Processing Unit https://www.hatas.org.au//new-developments-with-mobile-hem We're hoping this will be a game changer for regional communities and a real boost to the dream of supplying regionally grown hemp for regional housing. Ten years of persistence by Ashford farmers, Connie and Leon Minos and a small injection of funding from the NSW government have demonstrated that a little bit of government investment goes a long way. This processor... and separation line housed in a 40 ft container can be moved regionally on a tilt truck and will allow farmers to process onsite, or to move hemp much shorter distances to supply hurd for housing or animal bedding and it will hopefully provide the trigger for further hemp biomass farming. Added returns to hemp grain and fibre farmers will come with more carbon sequestration and that's a very exciting prospect! See more
23.01.2022 Great interview with Gary Rogers from Hemp Homes Australia and the home owners about Sativa Sanctuary and the thermal comfort of a hemp home. Gary specialises in building with Australian hemp products, so the home was built using AHMC materials and hemp from NSW. After getting quite a few builds up he is now focussed on the logical next step, getting hemp processing happening in WA.
22.01.2022 Great to read some positive news about the growing NSW industry ... and to have an image included of Nooroo, one of HannanBuild's recently completed hemp homes. https://thefarmermagazine.com.au/hemp-industry-set-to-thri/
22.01.2022 Our Upcoming Queensland Workshop
22.01.2022 Very exciting to see Erkhart Constructions first hemp home in Wanaka completed. Lochlan and Joel came over a couple of years ago for some training at a workshop we ran on the Gold Coast and theyve certainly translated that experience into a beautifully finished build. While our Australian products were used on this first project, the intention for the next hemp home they have planned is to build with New Zealand hemp. Hopefully it will inspire many more builds and create the demand needed to grow a strong NZ hemp housing industry. The end goal is obviously self-sufficiency. Happy to support them on the journey.
21.01.2022 We often see images of hemp walls subjected to flame from a gas torch and we've conducted similar tests to demonstrate the lack of ignition. This fire test conducted in August 2019 by Professor Marton Marosszeky looked at how AHMC's materials performed exposed to constant flame for a longer duration. Similar to when there is a build up of embers at the base of a wall during a bushfire, a fire from bush timbers was built up to a height of 600mm and maintained for 1 hour adjacent to a hemp wall rendered with 10mm of AHMC Hemp-lime Render. There was no penetration of the render and no impact on the wall after 1 hour. https://www.hempmasonry.com.au/fire-retardant-building-mat/
21.01.2022 Hemp proves to be the perfect choice for ABC weather man Graham Creed and his partner Bridgit's home in the NSW Hunter Valley It has great insulating capabilities, its termite resistant, mould resistant, and even fire resistant. There have been tests with blowtorches on a block of hemp and after six months it still hadnt caught on fire. Also, in a conventional home you often wake up in the morning with condensation on the windows. Hemp houses need a special organic render ...that allows the house to breathe. So you dont get that build-up of moisture inside and the condensation is actually on the outside. Builder: Shane Hannan from Hannan Build https://hunterlifestyle.com.au/2020/02/eagles-reach/
21.01.2022 The NSW Hunter Valley is definitely becoming a bit of a hub for hemp homes and Hannan Build have been involved as builders, or as the hemp installers in very many of those builds. This townhouse in Dungog is their latest project. Starting with hemp being produced for housing under early research licences, including our own - hemp has continuously been grown in the Hunter Valley for the past 20 years.

21.01.2022 Hemp display panels at Hemp Culture at Burringbar St, Mullumbimby Many thanks to Hanna and Leon from Hemp Threads for their project making and installing these hemp panels using industrial hemp they grew and processed under licence on their farm in Broadwater NNSW and AHMC Binder. Panels like these would usually be dried on or offsite before being installed but with a short deadline and little time for drying, it took a few extra hands to get the freshly installed panels up and into place.

15.01.2022 The Owner Builder Magazine has been a consistent advocate when it comes to Hemp Building. They were the first magazine in the country to publish images and run stories on the opportunities the material presents for owner builders. Much appreciation for their foresight! The magazine has a new format and the current issue focuses on Sustainable House Day and on Hannan Build's Hemp homes in the Shepherds Ground Ecovillage in Butterwick in the NSW Hunter Valley.
15.01.2022 Mandalong, NSW Central Coast - Hemp Retrofit with Hannan Build
14.01.2022 We pride ourselves on our commitment to supporting the Australian hemp industry and up until late last year all the hemp we supplied was Australian. As demand has started to slowly grow and as a result of the shortage of processed hemp fibre in Australia, at the end of last year we imported some sustainably farmed building grade hemp from the UK to meet a shortfall in Australian hurd to ensure supply for projects we'd committed to. At the same time we had a crop of stubble from a Hemp grain crop grown in southern Qld processed for building materials. The material went to six projects - most were full builds and there was also a feature wall project.
14.01.2022 Weve had to postpone the Queensland workshop that was planned for this weekend in Lower Beechmont for a few weeks because of the fires. Well be posting a new date as soon as thats confirmed. Thanks everyone whos enrolled for your flexibility and apologies for any inconvenience!
14.01.2022 As we nearly finished our processing plant we gave also just about finished, the hemp offices... why look at boring plain walls when you can look at hemp. Aust...ralian grown and Australian produced varieties we also use Australian binder from AHMC from Australian lime deposits .... 13.01.2022 This is one of the most beautiful projects weve had involvement with (our input has been tiny). What is huge about it is that its an incredible testament to the spirit and generosity of community. First a hemp home and now a hydrotherapy pool both built by volunteers for the Read triplets, whose lives are compromised by chronic illness, but blessed by a truly supportive community. Installing the hemp for the hydrotherapy pool building has largely been undertaken by students from the local high school working alongside other now seasoned volunteer installers who have shown their support throughout this big undertaking.
12.01.2022 Hawea Grove is an upcoming project in New Zealand we're involved in. Covid-permitting this will be the first Hemp home supplied by Hemp Farms NZ! It's the second Hemp build for Erkhart Constructions and this video includes a great interview with them as well as some lovely images of their first build in Wanaka. Also a really interesting discussion with Jessica Eyers, Passiv Haus designer and energy modelling expert from Hiberna, about how hemp can comply with light Passiv Haus standards. https://haweagrove.nz//episode-03-on-the-road-meet-the-ex/

10.01.2022 Locking up carbon - any opportunity's a good one - Hemp outdoor wall, Kandos, Central Tablelands NSW We usually think of hempcrete for building dwellings because of its thermal performance and breathability, but putting those characteristics aside, it's simply a less carbon intensive material than bricks, blocks or concrete and for rendered garden walls all that's needed is flagging on the top. This Hemp wall at the entrance to the township of Kandos NSW was built by Sydney a...rtist, Gilbert Grace as a part of a bigger project called the Hemp Initiative, a collaboration we were involved in a few years ago with the University of Sydney's College of the Arts. Until 2011, Kandos was famous for its cement production - known as the 'town that built Sydney'. 5 years after production ceased, an Art School named the Kandos School of Cultural Adaptation was formed by a collective of artists/academics from the university, who were interested in understanding what happens when artists work directly with individuals who are driving cultural adaptation to create a better world, using their own skills to accelerate and spread those adaptations. KSCA has been working with the Kandos community investigating opportunities for regional renewal through regenerative agriculture including with Hemp.
10.01.2022 Some lovely walls underway in a new Hemp home in Beaconsfield WA using all Australian materials. Congratulations to builder Mikkel Hansen from Hempcrete Western Australia and his crew!
10.01.2022 The existing build at Enmore was uninsulated, so the task began with removing all existing rubble under the building, installing fans and an insulated slab. Builder and experienced Hemp installer Nick Sowden from Sowden Building Solutions bagged the existing brick walls externally with AHMC Hemp-lime Render and finished these with mineral silicate paints to maintain breathability and avoid any moisture being locked into the brick substrate. To keep the character of the home,... the existing windows were retrofitted with double-glazing. Then for the extension, hemp walls were installed, finished internally with Hemp-lime render and limewash, other than on one exposed feature wall that was sealed with a clear breathable sealant. Rylock double-glazed windows followed along with Hemp lime roofing insulation to create an effective thermal envelope. Exterior zinc standing seam cladding and a large solar system completed this modern conversion, to create a super comfortable energy-efficient home.
