25.01.2022 AYAC met with the new Minister for Youth Richard Colbeck to discuss the Agenda for Young Australians, the need for a funding youth peak and involving young people in the decisions that impact their lives. Watch this space!

24.01.2022 WE HAVE A MINISTER FOR YOUTH!! Young people are back on the agenda for the first time since 2013. Senator for Tasmania Richard Colbeck has been appointed the Minister for Youth and Sports. He said I am also delighted to take on the role of Minister for Youth, to support Australia’s next generation to make the most of the exciting opportunities our country has in the coming years. I look forward to working closely with Minister Hunt, particularly in the area of youth mental... health. Fundamentally, this portfolio is all about people, which is what makes it so exciting. AYAC has requested a meeting with the Prime Minister and the Minister for Youth and Sports to show their commitment to an Agenda for Young Australians. Thank you for everyone who supported the #youthontheagenda campaign.

22.01.2022 So excited to see the first federal party come out with their policy platform for young people. Great work Senator Jordon Steele-John to giving a voice to young people and making sure the party platform responded to their needs. The Greens plan will:... Reinstate funding for National Youth Week Reinstate funding for the national youth peak body Establish a Federal Minister for Youth Give 16 and 17 year olds the right to vote Make each voice count in the political process Bring on the 2019 Federal Election!! Let's see what the other major parties have to say about putting #youthontheagenda

18.01.2022 Young people are active on political issues, they are concerned about inequality for all Australians and they are looking for leadership in Parliament. Chair of AYAC, Katie Acheson, spoke with Hack on triple j to explain why just eight per cent of young people surveyed (by HACK) said they thought politicians were working in their best interests. http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/hack/hack/10047936

18.01.2022 Young people aren't feeling represented in parliament for good reason. There hasn't been a Youth Minister since 2013. The funding for the national youth peak was cut in 2014 and there has not been a national youth policy since 2010. It is time to make sure young people are back on the agenda. Contact your local candidates now before it istoo late. https://www.youthontheagenda.org.au/contact_your_candidate

18.01.2022 MASSIVE win for young people - Terri Butler MP (Shadow Minister for Young Australians and Youth Affairs) just announced Australian Labor will fund AYAC the national voice for young people - $5.4M over 4 years and ensure young people are represented in government if Labor is elected. For almost half a decade government decision makers, young people and services supporting young people have lost out, without a funded peak to make sure government has the advice and experience o...f young people to inform its decisions, and fight for better outcomes. We need a government who will make sure young people are at the table and their issues are addressed! #youthontheagenda #ausvotes #ausyouth

18.01.2022 Should 16 and 17 year olds get to vote? We think so and so do the 7 state and territory youth peaks. Here's why ... http://www.youthaction.org.au/lowering_the_voting_age

17.01.2022 Thank you for the incredible support, tireless advocacy for young people and the endless wisdom of young peopled the youth sector in our work at AYAC. It has been an incredible 4 years being the Chair of Australia’s National Youth Peak body. I am proud of all of our work in the midst of not having Federal funding. AYAC will continue to advocate for Australian young people to be involved in decision making in all areas of their communities and society, supported but a strong, vibrant and well resourced youth sector. I am so honoured to have been part of AYAC's long history and I look forward to seeing all the great things that are ahead thanks to the passionate board, members and supporters. #ausyouth #youthontheagenda

13.01.2022 Terri Butler - Member for Griffith was just made the Shadow Minister for Young Australians and Youth Affairs. There has been no Minister for Youth since 2013. What a great step in the right direction. Lets put #youthontheagenda !!!

10.01.2022 With youth enrolments at all-time high young people are saying to politicians ... ‘you haven’t been paying attention to me but now you have to pay attention to my vote!’ Sign on to put youthontheagenda.org.au

06.01.2022 Today we spoke to the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters regarding the joint submission by Youth Affairs Council Victoria, Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia, YACSA, Youth Network of Tasmania, and Youth Action NSW into its inquiry into lowering the voting age. By lowering the voting age to 16 it will add a potential 600,000 young Australians to the electoral roll which can only strengthen Australia's democratic systems.

05.01.2022 There are 4.3 million reasons why the Australian government should care about young people. Young people are not only the future of this country, but they are the here and now. On Friday 23 November, young people, youth interest groups and organisations from across Australia came together for our National Youth Summit - to set the top youth policy priorities for the next election and new government. The Shadow Minister for Young Australians and Youth Affairs, Terri Butler MP ...dropped by to hear from the Summit. The message was clear Australia needs an independent peak body for young people and the youth sector & the Government needs a plan to address issues impacting on young people. Watch this space for the top priorities document's release date. We will be sending it out to all sitting MPs and our PM.
