23.01.2022 Friday 12th April PESA Conference Where There's a Will - Upper Hunter... The Blackwood Foundation has been involved with "Where There's a Will" (WTW), Upper Hunter community, in supporting their whole community approach to wellbeing. The Foundation sponsored 13 teachers from the area, through Schools Plus, to attend the PESA Conference. Pauline Carrigan, the Founder, gave a moving speech about WTW, the Upper Hunter approach, and their vision for the future.



23.01.2022 Wednesday 28 October IPEN 2020 Wellbeing in Education Conference Congratulations to IPEN for successfully conducting a global conference on wellbeing in education. The audience heard from global speakers from places such as America, Mexico, England, Portugal and Columbia, to name a few. Speakers included Martin Seligman, Simon Murray OAM, Lea Waters, Angela Duckworth and Sir Anthony Seldon.

23.01.2022 Supporting programs that offer assistance with mental health issues, is one of the key areas of impact for The Blackwood Foundation. Accordingly the Foundation is pleased to hear that the government has confirmed a $1.45 billion investment into the area.

21.01.2022 Wednesday 11 March Uplifting Australia Event It was an honour for The Blackwood Foundation and The Snow Foundation, to host the Uplifting Australia Event. Uplifting Australia is a 'family wellbeing initiative' which aims to prevent poor mental health outcomes for children. ... Informative presentations were given by Garry Thomson (CEO of Uplifting Australia), Geoff Staley (Chairperson), Dr Paige Williams (University of Melbourne School of Positive Psychology), and Peter Chown (World Health Organisation).

20.01.2022 Thursday 15th November Impact100 Sydney North 2018 Grants Celebration... Congratulations to the primary grant recipients SHINE for Kids, for winning the $100,000 grant. Also congratulations to the merit award winners the Dandelion Support Network, The Pyjama Foundation, and The SISTER2sister Program, each receiving grants of $10,000.

15.01.2022 COVID-19 Crisis Response The Blackwood Foundation would like to commend all of the organisations that they support over their management and adaptation over the COVID-19 period. The organisations continued to operate, many adapting and often expanding, their programs to online platforms. Top Blokes, KidsXpress, and Positive Education in Schools Association, implemented and/ or expanded their online support and access to information. Schools Plus set up an innovative "Crisis ...Appeal" to help disadvantaged schools. Eat Up Australia not only continued to directly deliver sandwiches to schools still requiring food, but also to support families in need. Triple Care Farm remained open to students upon the implementation of new clinical guidelines, and Yalari supported its Indigenous students to return home to their families. It has been impressive to see how charities have managed to quickly adapt to the COVID-19 crisis, while also implementing long term solutions for recovery.

14.01.2022 Monday 18th February 2019 The Gonski Institute held an informative screening and discussion of the documentary by Ted Dintersmith, "Most Likely to Succeed". The film highlights the shortcomings of conventional education methods, and explores new approaches in education. The panelists included Ted Dintersmith, Stephanie McConnell, Peter Hutton, and was moderated by Professor Pasi Sahlberg.

Top Blokes mission is to improve young men's health and wellbeing.... Insightful presentations were given by Melissa Abu-Gazaleh (CEO and Founder), David Garlick (Head of Wellbeing, Sir Joseph Banks High School), and a panel of Top Blokes Youth Ambassadors.

Eat Up Australia provides sandwiches to school children who go to school without any lunch. Thank you also to the Bennelong Foundation for hosting the event.

12.01.2022 The Blackwood Foundation would like to announce that its Chairman, Simon Martin, has been elected to the PESA Board as a co-opted director. Simon was identified by the Board's Governance Nominations Committee as an outstanding candidate, having regard to the professional skill-sets and experience required to maintain a balanced and cohesive Board. The Blackwood Foundation has been involved in Positive Education since 2015. In 2019 the Foundation supported teachers in the Uppe...r Hunter to attend the PESA conference. The Foundation wishes Simon the best in his new role.

11.01.2022 Top Blokes Foundation Congratulations to the Top Blokes Foundation for being awarded the Joan Salter Fund, by the Sydney Rotary Club. It is a 3 year partnership to fund an independent evaluation and to run 6 Top Blokes "Stepping Up" programs. The programs are for at-risk and disadvantaged boys aged 10 - 13, from Western Sydney, focussing on social inclusion, mental health and wellbeing, and the reduction of anti-social behaviour.
