25.01.2022 A quick install video on our 14th and 15th IBC Wicking Garden Beds. Total cost $73 per bed. The IBC sources on market place, and must be of food grade history for my garden. The plumbing fittings are from Bunnings or Greenbank hardware. The Ag-drain is to allow a single point to refill the lower section of the bed with water once it dries down. The lower section will become more porous to hold more water as the wood decays. The Biochar I make myself from dropped branches etc.... These beds are amazingly productive and watersaving for our dry climate. We are currently self sufficient in greens, lettuce, 4 difference spinaches, cherry tomatoes, snow peas and shoots and spring onions, walking onions, nasturtium, parsley, coriander and Kale. Working on increasing production of strawberrys, leeks, beetroot leaves, Broccoli, cabbage, more tomatoes, onion, pawpaw in these bags. The garden beds are right at the bottom of our front steps and the electric fence is to keep thieving dalmatians at bay. Current plan is for another 10 beds in the next month for spring plantings. So far ( touch wood) diverse plantings, predictor insects and Double Barr Finches have controlled pests without any sprays. Dr Glenn.

25.01.2022 Paralysis Tick cases are escalating. Paralysis ticks are NOT a hot weather problem. Peak tick season in our area is late August -September and declining in December. We have had 3 cases of Paralysis Tick in the last week at the Clinic. Hit us up in comments if you are lost on the choices for Tick prevention for your cat or dog.

25.01.2022 Limited stock fresh off the plane from USA. Pooping Pooches 2021 Calendar $35 in clinic only, now. Because hopefully this is the only thing to happen in 2021

Earthworks mulched and cover cropped with field pea, oats, vetch, turnip, and plantain. #permaculture Savour Soil Permaculture Bonus points for spotting the odd one out.

23.01.2022 Today some lovely people brought in a deceased adult entire male black medium/long hair cat hit by a car on Middle Rd, Boronia Heights. No microchip. Quite possibly a feral cat but in case someone is missing this poor character we will hold him for 2 weeks before having him cremated at Pets Eternal, Greenbank. His ashes will be scattered in their pet cemetery.

23.01.2022 Apologies. Due to some unplanned angle grinder to finger action Dr Glenn is out of action for a while at the clinic . New awesome vet Dr Sarah (15 years experience in Australia and England) and Dr Devonshifts to cover. Unfortunately no vet on duty today but after that will be business as usual from Tomorrow. Dr Glenn is very appreciative of how the team had stepped up to keep things rolling.

23.01.2022 August 1st is the official Horses birthday ( in the Southern Hemisphere at least). Happy Birthday to Dr Glenns Ponies

22.01.2022 Many older pets (and a few younger ones) are feeling the cooler weather in their bones. Slow to get out of bed or get up to their feet. Limping for a few steps or a minute or two and then back to normal once they warmup? These are really common symptoms of arthritis. And there is lot you can do and your vet can help you with to keep your pet as comfortable as possible for as long as possible.

21.01.2022 Found on Springfield Greenbank arterial road earlier today. Microchipped to old owner who gave it to a friend who is a mechanic at Wacol but didn't have their phone number. Council tag is registered to old owner as well. Male Desexed. Pls call the clinic on 32976666. Owner must know details about the dog and have photo proof of ownership.

20.01.2022 Dr Devon shows a great technique to clean your dogs ears. If your dog has pain, a head tilt, is shaking their head or the ear canal is visible red or wet with discharge, a vet visit is definitely warranted. That is before putting anything in their ear, as any liquids into an ear with a damaged eardrum could be harmful.

20.01.2022 for Smokey this morning going into surgery for a large cancer lump in her belly. We are not available for any further consults today as this surgery is huge. Pls call AES Springfield or Jindalee for your emergency needs today

20.01.2022 This is me preparing a few days worth of food for my Doggos. Raw meat on its own (or cooked) meat is a terrible diet for dogs. I use Vets All Natural Complete Mix with a meat base to provide a balanced diet. It still makes a minimally processed diet very low in carbohydrates. It is 85% meat and 15% Complete Mix. I also feed PROUDI and Big Dog Pet Foods These are both awesome fully balanced diets, as easy as defrosting and feed. I also feed appropriate raw bones and have a ba...g of Ziwi Australia in the cupboard if I'm not organised. I recommend alternating between different base diets over time or during the week. It makes sense to vary diet nutritional sources to avoid any deficiencies, excesses or "anti-nutritive properties" of any one diet. There have been numerous examples in the pet food industry overtime where a particular diet feed in exclusion of other foods has harmed or causes fatalities in pets. Recent (2018)problems with Advance Dermacare food, when fed exclusively to dogs with skin troubles caused 17 deaths and 70 dogs to be seriously harmed for the rest or their lives. The cause has not been found. The cause has not been found. The American FDA is still investigating the potentially pet food-induced heart failure disease Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs. These dogs were eating certain pet foods, many labeled as "grain-free," which contained a high proportion of peas, lentils, other legume seeds (pulses), and/or potatoes in various forms (whole, flour, protein, etc.) as main ingredients (listed within the first 10 ingredients in the ingredient list. More than 500 cases of heart failure in 2018 have been linked to these diets and it could be the tip of the iceberg. Or not. Either way, feeding the same food or multiple foods of a similar origin for extended periods seems like a bad idea unless it cannot be avoided. 19.01.2022 All our desexings and any surgeries who need them go home with a complementary come of shame. No all are as happy to pose in them as Rambo and Rocky Any pet parent who has a surgery booked can come and get their pets cone before the surgery to give their baby time to get used to the idea before surgery.

19.01.2022 10 days post surgery check for Smokey today after removing her massive 3.65kg splenic tumour. She is back to her normal casual and slightly naughty 13yr old self. Hopefully a few more happy years out of the old girl yet. This was her 10 days ago https://www.facebook.com/189151341100451/posts/3703810689634481/

17.01.2022 A little rain unfortunately means seasonally itchy dogs start scratching. Itchy ears, feet, bellies or armpits. The sooner you can start a home itchy dog proticol the better.

16.01.2022 Wanted. Veterinarian for Small Animal Position on the Southside of Brisbane @The Bloomin Vet. Our current super mum/supervet Katie is leaving us for her 3rd Bub and new vet adventure so we need you for 1-4 days a week. You are a bright, enthusiastic veterinarian dedicated to offering the best opportunity for our patients to have the best of veterinary care. You are the patient advocate. You are here to discuss the best option for the pet with their pet parent and help educa...te them on what is best for their pets health needs. We can help this happen through our awesome qualified staff, digital x-rays, new Im3 LED dental unit, Dental Xays pending, Mindray diagnostic ultrasound, in-house TTA rapid and orthopedics etc. We run 20 minute consults to give you the time you need to discuss the patient's needs with the client. We have no KPIs. We have no performance targets and have no intentions of starting too. If you advocate for the pet we get the best outcomes for our patients and we still make enough money to pay the bills and have happy staff. We are 100% privately owned by myself and have no corporate aspirations in the future. You could be happily involved in a busy 2 vet practice on Brisbane's southside in a lovely acreage area, great pet parents, with unfortunately lots of ticks and snakes to keep you hopping. You should have at least 2 years veterinary experience and be confident working unsupervised, but you will also be supported by a vet with 25yrs exp and another with 5 years experience. No after hours. Full time is 4 days a week 8am -6pm weekdays or 9-5 Sat or 9-2 Sunday are Full Days. Owner currently does 3 weekend a month and another weekend cover each month or 2 by negotiation would be awesome. Remuneration from $85000 for a full time equivalent for the successful applicant.. This means starting from $55 per hr for casual part time and from $43 pr hr for Permanent perks. 5 yrs experience should start at $93000 full time or equivalent. Please email [email protected] to express interest and tell us a little about you. Thanks. Glenn Geissler

15.01.2022 Dr Glenns wife Who is sliding into your DMs at this time of night???. Dr Glenn........ so many dog nudes and

14.01.2022 Sunday funny. No cats were injured in filming these videos

14.01.2022 When desexing we use absorbable sutures in multiple layers internally. Nearly all desexing wounds dont need external sutures.

13.01.2022 Dr Glenns latest permaculture project complete. Solving problems thru environmentally sustainable design. One homemade portable solar water pump using repurposed parts where possible. 2 more panels will be added to increase output to approximately 16000 litres a day. If he can find some Second hand deep cycle batteries that would further increase output.

13.01.2022 Arthritis, lameness and joint pain gets worse as winter sets in. But you and your vet can make a huge difference to the quality and quantity of your personality life. Dr Glenn outlines lots of options for your dogs joint health. And of course keeping or getting your pets weight under control is massive.

12.01.2022 National Desexing month. Lots of dogs desexed at very discounted rates. Is now the best time to desex your baby because it is cheaper? What is the best age to desex your dog? Should you be desexing them at all? Complicated question with a very long answer. Short answer is it is complicated. My long answer is this video. It goes for 19 minutes. But its pretty comprehensive. Summary of my rules:- If you cannot stop your dog from breeding then desex at six months of age. ... If you have a female dog and dont want them to come into season for you to manage then desex at six months of age. If you have a medium to large breed dog there may be some benefit from delaying the desexing until after 12 months of age. This is a complicated combination of factors which I explained in the video. If you have a male dog that behaves himself as an entire male and you wish to keep him entire thats fine. Any entire males or females older than 5 years need at least every six months a visit to the vet for a thorough examination to check for reproductive abnormalities including mammary cancer and prostate enlargement. ALL desexings reguardless of how discounted the service is should have effective opiate pain relief working pre, during and post surgery. ALL desexings should get oral pain relief post surgery for at least a few days. Just because they seem "happy" doesnt mean they are not in pain and pain as a substitue for post surgical confinement to keep them quite does not cut it. ALL desexings with sutures within the skin or with visible sutures must be sent home with a cone of shame. The alternative is not worth it. I have done many after-hours surgeries over the years anaesthetising and resuturing desexing wounds from pets desexed at other practices that did not go home with an E-collar. My first ever after hours call as a vet was a sweet little kelpie girl who chewed thru her sutures ( and was not adequately confined or supervised post-surgery and she chewed off some of her intestines that herniated out the resulting wound. we battled to save her for 2 days but lost. I will alway remember her. Dr Glenn.

12.01.2022 I hadnt caught up with this amazing dog for a few years until Saturday morning. This is Stevie a 9 yr old Malamute X. Stevie is one of the happiest dogs Ive had the pleasure of knowing. I vaccinated her as a 10 week old puppy. Always so happy to be at the clinic, to be poked and prodded and be treated. She has had lots of poking and prodding. She has no eyes now. We removed one is 2015 and the other in 2016. She had developed glaucoma that despite our and specialist treat...ment became blind. She experienced very painful useless eyes until we removed her pain and she hasnt looked back. She navigates around the yard and house at home from memory and feel and hearing. She loves going on long walks taking in the sounds and smells and is so happy. Note that it was a big decision to remove the first and second eye but as they were painful and not functional that helped. And the fact she had been becoming blind and was handling it very well. Many but not all patients who become profoundly blind cope this well and each case must be considered on the own merit. Dr Glenn. See more

11.01.2022 **Unfortunately despite Dr Katies best efforts this little one has passed away. We will hold her for 2 weeks in case her owner comes forward before cremation Found Stray Black female kitten (maybe about 6 months estimated by Dr Katie) brought in by a client with severe tick paralysis. No microchip. Not Desexed. Found At Lance Road, North Maclean. We have started tick antiserum treatment and are trying to warm up and stabilise. If this looks like your baby pls call 32976666.

11.01.2022 Simba had a checkup after a urinary tract infection trouble which has resolved with appropriate treatment. If a cat suddenly stops using the litter tray and starts peeing somewhere they shouldnt, they are usually NOT doing it to piss you off. More likely because it hurts to wee. Some simple urine tests and treatment or diet change has them back to the litter tray in no time. Pls get your cat and their wee tested if they change their toilet habits. Especially male cats who can develop life threatening obstructions within hours. Gratuitous shelfie with Simba because who doesnt love a shelfie. Dr Glenn.

10.01.2022 Permaculture Project. Rocket Stove Wood Store. Repurpose something for new useful purpose. Added bonus of using the top of tank removed for improved chimney for Biochar Tort Kiln (explanation of that tomorrow). Total cost $50 for the tank and $2 for a grinder disk.

09.01.2022 Little Jafa visited today for the second of 4 weekly arthritis injections. It is not only cats and dogs that can get arthritis and can benefit from our joint treatment programs.

08.01.2022 Big day for Smokey Smokey is a 12 year old Groodle. She had been feeling a bit off for a few days and didnt eat dinner Friday night. Saturday she came to the clinic and she was feeling a bit flat. She was a bit pale in the gums, breathing a little more effort than expected, increased temperature and l felt large lump in the middle to front of her belly. In-house bloodwork highlighted a mild but not serious anaemia but normal liver and kidney function, making a liver or k...idney cancer less likely. Xrays of the abdomen and chest highlighted a huge central abdominal mass but not signs of any cancer in the lungs. We ultrasounded the abdomen and could see a normal liver and some normal spleen tissue but a very large mass of abnormal tissue which looks attached to the spleen. 2 choices were discussed. Major surgery to attempt removing the mass or home for a day or 2 to say Goodbye . We discussed that these masses can be benign and it we were lucky the a mass had not leaked any cancer cells out the surgery could cure her of at least buy a few to several happy months for Smokey. Her owners elected for surgery and today I removed her spleen with a single, intact 3.75kg tumour. There was no sign of spread to local tissues and I could remove it all at once without damaging the tumour and spilling any seed. She is on some fentanyl accords the skin pain relief and some iv fluids but she was up and around and checking her peemails outside 4 hrs post surgery. she will be home tomorrow night. There is a good chance the surgery will be curative and she will not have any long term ill effects. She is a great patientDr Glenn.

08.01.2022 Entire male cat found deceased on Thompson Road yesterday and brought in by the lovely lady who found him. No microchip. Could be a feral cat but many not be . We will hold him for 2 weeks and if an owner doesnt come forward he will be cremated by Pets Eternal Greenbank and Burleigh and ashes scattered in their pet cemetery. Ph 32976666 if you think you know who he is or message here.

05.01.2022 Chickens arent just great pets and egg layers. They also can be a big help to add fertility to your vegetable gardening efforts.

04.01.2022 Spent an amazing morning with our crew at vet-n-pet DIRECT with a sunrise balloon flight in the Scenic Rim from near Wyralong Dam to near Beaudesert. We were celebrating Vetnpets 15th birthday. It all started in our living room selling vet products online and has grown to a warehouse and office full of awesome people helping pet owners in Australia and worldwide. It was a great way to start the day. We live in a beautiful part of the world. Thanks to Hot Air Balloon Scenic Rim for a great early morning. Dr Glenn.

04.01.2022 Forever grateful for our wonderful pet parents. We were humbled this week to receive this awesome gift from Bellas family. Very generous and thoughtful. Everyone is very chuffed and feeling the love.

04.01.2022 World Toilet Day. The Formidable Vegetables have a great water-saving idea for the dunny. And great compost for the end of 2021. And let's face it, this year has been pretty anyway. Dr. Glenn's dunny doesn't flush

03.01.2022 Yesterday thousands of tons of Australias precious topsoil was exported out to sea. Plato knew 2500years ago that the current agricultural pressures and practices were destroying the fragile landscape. Industrial agriculture has learnt little in the time since other than being able to use a bigger tractor, more powerful herbicide/ fungicide/ insecticide to inflict our will on the planet. Government intervention is not the answer. Individual people thru their actions and purchasing decisions have the power to change the world. Regenerative agriculture. Permaculture principles. Diversity in agriculture and your garden can make a difference. Dr Glenn.

02.01.2022 Please keep this in mind when designing plantings and gardening in general.
